In our collaboration, we would like to ask students for donation items and supplies to give to EUMA's program funds to assist those who are homeless. They require different items for everyday use, welcome home kits, and for the Rainbow Connection Thrift Store. These everyday items include, twin size sheet sets, pillowcases, twin-size comforters & blankets, new bath towels, washcloths, laundry detergent, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, Clorox wipes, pillows, diapers, children's clothing, cleaning products, swifters, and especially toilet paper and large kitchen bags. For the "Welcome Home Kit" for those moving from homeless to a home, we would ask for shower curtains & rings, bath mat/rugs, bath towels, small trash can, mop, bucket, broom, dust pan, tall kitchen trash can, kitchen towels, pot holders, dish rack, drying mat, pots, pans, measuring cups/spoons, colander, cooking utensils, small kitchen rug, coffee maker, toaster, cups, plates, silverware, glass wear, and bowls. For the Rainbow Connection Thrift store we will request dressers, sofa, love seat, microwave, toaster, lamp, TV, and an End table. Donations for the Rainbow Connection Thrift Store will need to be donated directly to EUMA. CMDA will be overseeing the donations from April 23-May 1, 2024 and delivering these items to EUMA on 28 West 9th Street, Erie, PA 16502. We will have a bin in the front lobby where students can place their donations in. We will monitor this through a Google spreadsheet where students can sign up for what they would like to donate. We will also have a packing event on May 1st in room 117 from 5:45-6:45 pm, this is an additional opportunity for students to volunteer.
April 2, 2024 at 5:39 PMApprovedBreast Cancer T-Shirt FundraiserOncology Club04/02/202408/03/2024We would like to sell breast cancer T-shirts and donate the profits to the Erie Cancer Wellness center. We plan on sending out an order form on August 3, 2024 and sending the order to My Custom T-shirt (an Erie based company) on August 24, 2024 and receive the shirts on September 24, 2024 and distribute them in the cafeteria during that time before October. We plan on selling the shirts for $15/shirt (price subject to change regarding the cost of manufacturing)and having payment through Venmo, then we would write a check to the T-shirt company and Erie Cancer Wellness. I have already been in touch with the Erie Cancer Wellness Center regarding how to donate the money.

Dr. Kalata will share insightful words with our students, offering valuable perspectives on osteopathic medicine. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to engage with a prominent figure in the field. Plus, there will be food served, so come hungry and ready to learn! All students are encouraged to attend and meet Dr. Kalata.

April 4, 2024 at 8:15 PMApprovedSpecial Lecture Event on the Mesolimbic Pathway by Dr. KuleszaSOMA04/04/202404/24/2024SOMA's Opioid Task Force Director Sanjna Chetan has arranged for Dr. Kulesza to give a special lecture event to the club as well as any other interested LECOM students! He will be giving a talk on the mesolimbic pathway via Zoom. The purpose of this lecture is to help students understand the widespread and important effects of opioids on the brain structure and function in greater detail than typically learned in class. Since the lecture will be held over zoom, students will be able to social distance and follow LECOM's COVID guidelines at that time.

The purpose is for him to speak virtually so anyone who would like to hear more about surgery in general can join and have the opportunity to ask him questions.

Dr. Lincoln completed an AOA approved family medicine residency at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City, NY, and practiced in family medicine for 5 years, she then retrained into a surgical subspecialty field in wound care, which she has been doing for almost 11 years; she is currently the only board certified family physician in the Department of Surgery at Guthrie Medical Group at Sayre, PA. Dr. Lincoln currently serves on the board of POFPS and also holds a degree in Masters of Healthcare Administration.

Dr. Stillman received her medical degree and Master of Health Services Administration from LECOM and completed her residency at Millcreek Community Hospital. She is an adjunct clinical assistant professor at LECOM and an attending physician at MCH, working closely with resident physicians in psychiatry. Dr. Stillman currently works through LECOM at: -Millcreek Community Hospital -LECOM Institute for Behavioral Health -Barber Forensic -Erie Homes for Children and Adults -LECOM's 8 long-term care facilities (assisted living, skilled nursing, and secure memory care) -LECOM's Medical Cannabis Research for Generalized Anxiety and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Because of her history as a LECOM alumni and her current work experience in multiple aspects of psychiatry, Dr. Stillman is the ideal speaker as the first year medical students transition into summer. A conversation with her would give students food for thought on how they should invest in their clinical careers in the following months and beyond. Prior to the event we will open up a google document so students can pose questions for Dr. Belinda Stillman D.O. to answer. The event will be hosted over Zoom, with a link to the meeting emailed a week in advance.

This will be an interactive panel discussion with plenty of time for questions from the audience. We plan to open this up to Orthopedics Club and Women's Health Club from Erie campus as well as ACOS clubs at our sister campuses of Bradenton, Seton Hill, and Elmira. During May is a time to study for boards and finals and it can be very stressful. This brings an opportunity for students to purchase and try a variety of Asian snacks, either for themselves or friends, and to destress for a bit. It can be tough to find Asian treats around Erie, so APAMSA would like to bring them right to campus. It would provide a great opportunity for students to unwind, explore new flavors, or reminisce. Students will be able to choose from a wide array of Asian snacks which includes Matcha KitKats, Banana Milk, HICHEW, and much more! All the money raised will go towards supporting the club to fund future events. Students will be able to pick and choose what they want and the quantity they would like in a google form which will be sent out to LECOM students upon event approval. The preorder will end at 11:59PM on Wednesday, May 1st. Snacks will be available for pickup from 12PM - 12:45 PM on Thursday, May 9th in the LECOM cafeteria. These are the snacks that students will be able to purchase: Banana Milk Kit Kat Matcha Strawberry Milk Tea HICHEW Pocky: Kopiko Candy Hello Panda Maxim Instant Coffee LECOM does not need to provide anything, APAMSA will be responsible for any clean up after the event.
April 21, 2024 at 5:25 PMApprovedPatagonia FundraiserSOMA04/21/202408/12/2024Due to the success of the Patagonia sale on our campus last year, and after being approached by multiple students asking to have the sale again, LECOM Erie SOMA is looking to duplicate the Patagonia sale that took place last year. The Patagonia's allowed for custom embroidery and will feature the school crest logo (attached). Event will take place remotely (with pick up at the school), in the early Fall Semester. Remote Fundraiser - Pick Up location at school. A Google Form will be sent out as soon upon event approval, and the sale will run through late August. The company we will be using is Threadfellows. Multiple types of Patagonia jackets will be offered, including vests, full zip jackets, and quarter zip jackets. Pick up will be COVID-safe in the LECOM cafeteria as students passing out and picking up orders will follow COVID protocols set forth by administration at the time of pick-up.

July 20, 2024 at 8:59 PMApprovedGuest Speaker Dr Shauna Berry, DO Ophthalmologist, Speaking on Ophthalmology and Medical SpanishSpanish Medical Club07/20/202408/30/2024This event will be a dual event with the both the ENT/Ophthalmology Club and Medical Spanish Club where Dr Shauna Berry, DO Ophthalmologist, will be answering questions pertaining to both clubs. Dr Berry is a pediatric ophthalmologist who graduated from NOVA Southeastern University and practices at Florida Lions Eye Clinic in Naples, Florida. This clinic does outreach work in Immigrant communities in southwest Florida where they see primarily Cuban and Puerto Rican Patients. She will be speaking on the challenges and experiences she's had providing care in Spanish speaking outreach settings and as well as how we can get involved in this line of work as physicians in our future. She will also be discussing her career path in Ophthalmology, her fellowships, and recommendations of how to to best pursue ophthalmology as a medical student. We will open it up for questions at the end. The event will be held over Zoom. I have created the meeting link and attached in the announcement below.

July 23, 2024 at 12:34 PMApprovedWeekly Mentoring Club VolunteeringMentoring07/23/202409/04/2024We are formally submitting our annual request to resume weekly volunteering with the kids on Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30, starting September 4th. One adult staff member from the YMCA (usually 2-3 are present on a regular basis) will be present at every meeting to be in control and take responsibility for the program and children. As usual, a child will never be alone with a volunteer (there must be at least 3 people in a room/outside for safety and liability reasons. The purpose of the presence of the LECOM students once a week at the Kids Club is to help mentor and facilitate personal growth in the children of the program. We intend on continuing our weekly activities of fun & games while also maintaining a positive atmosphere for everyone to feel safe & welcomed by those from LECOM. The sale will be through Steeles Supply Company. The order will be a bulk order, shipped to the school, and then dispersed to the students. All supplies needed will be provided by Gift of Life.
