Our club previously did service with this app and each call answered from the Be My Eyes app counts as 1 hours of community service. We were thinking this is a perfect opportunity to be able to get service hours at the end of the semester and over the summer.

	August 22, 2022 at 1:07 PM	Approved	Volunteering at the Community Blood Bank	Class of 2025	08/22/2022	09/13/2022	The Community Blood Bank in Erie is starting a new volunteer program in hopes of generating more follow up donations with the help their volunteers. After donating blood, the donors are sent to the refreshment area of the center or drive so that they can relax for 10 minutes and have a snack. Once the donor is done with their snacks, there are no other interactions with staff, and they leave. There is a very small chance they come back and donate again in 56 days which is the reason why the volunteer program was started. The community blood bank felt that the final step of the donation process was lacking and thought having volunteers greet donors in the refreshment area could greatly impact the donation process. The role of the volunteer will be to thank the donor for their donation, get feedback from the donor, and most important, ask the donor to schedule a follow up donation. A volunteer at the last part of the donation could make a huge difference in getting donors to return for another donation. Asking for a follow-up donation is the most crucial item, because more consistent donors mean a better blood supply. Students will be able to sign up for shifts well in advance and will receive volunteer hours for their participation. Every hour spent volunteering will count towards one volunteer hour. Students will be required to wear masks while volunteering.

Some of the topics we plan to cover are: -Pay difference with military vs civilian, in residency and later. -Military match vs civilian match, in terms of how competitive they each are for different specialties. -Military residency vs civilian residency, regarding degree of training, is one better than the other? -Overview of what a GMO is, pros and cons to that path, and differences in their usage in each branch. -Q/A time, eBoard to come with prepared questions to supplement. -Clinical cases as time allows. Guest Speakers: Bryan G. Anderson, DO, MHSA; Eric Goodrich D.O., MSMEd COVID Protocols: All attendees will wear masks (3-ply or greater) unless presenting while remaining greater than 6 feet away from others. All attendees will have their temperature checked at the entrance to the Main Campus. Per LECOM guidance all students will continue to complete daily symptom checklist found on the portal. Presenters will be contacted and given the portal symptom checklist the day prior to the event. If any answers are positive, Dr. Shabloski will be notified. Attendees will sit in every other seat in the lecture hall to ensure social distancing. Attendance will be taken for possible contact tracing purposes.

Volunteers will sort, pack, and prepare grocery items for those in need. The IMS club advisor will be present for this event and volunteers will be required to wear masks at all times and comply with LECOM's COVID-19 policies/guidelines.
	August 31, 2022 at 1:43 PM	Approved	CMDA Volunteer Event	Christian Medical and Dental Association	08/31/2022	10/01/2022	Our CMDA group will be volunteering at Acts 2:42 Bible Fellowship by helping with their men’s retreat on Saturday, 10/01/2022. They asked for help setting up tables and tents outside, serving food, and helping with clean up during and after the event. We will have two groups of volunteers. One group will work from 7:30 to 9:30 am. The second group will work from 11:30 am- 1:30 pm. We have decided to open this up for only our members. For COVID precautions, we are asking all of our students to wear masks and to social distance as much as possible. For the food handling, we are asking all students to wash their hands, wear their masks, and wear gloves to minimize transmission. 	September 2, 2022 at 9:56 AM	Approved	Naloxone Training	SOMA	09/02/2022	11/07/2022	Proposed date: Monday, November 7 th , 2022 from 6-7PM Idea: SOMA’s OPTF will be hosting a Naloxone Training that will be lead by Mili Patel, the Opioid Task Force Director. The session will be a one-hour presentation that will discuss introduction to opioids, history of the opioid epidemic, and the current overdose statistics in the United States. Those who attend the event will be able to respond to an opioid-related overdose with naloxone. Following the event, all participants will receive a certificate of participation and information on how to obtain Naloxone through NEXT Distro. The certificate will be associated with Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA). By the time of this training session, I will have completed the Naloxone Trainer course through Overdose Lifeline, Inc. and I will be certified to provide Naloxone Training sessions to students. This training will be through Zoom as part of our COVID mitigation plan. As medical students, it is imperative to advance our education and learn about the various substance use treatment services that are available to us. Through this training, we, as medical students, can take action to fight the growing opioid epidemic in the United States. It will also allow students to ask any questions that they may have regarding this issue.

This preparation is being done by raising awareness and teaching people how to learn three quick actions to control serious bleeding. The EM Club advisor, Dr. Risavi, will be giving this training to students. We will have a sign up sheet and cap the limited number of participants at 45 to adhere to the capacity of Kearsarge. We also will require masks at the event to maintain COVID safety. This event will take place on October 19th from 6-8 PM.
	September 6, 2022 at 12:10 PM	Approved	Zoo Boo	Pediatrics Club	09/06/2022	10/29/2022	Zoo Boo is an event held at the Erie Zoo throughout the month of October on Wednesday and Saturdays. The event is held outside the Erie Zoo and volunteers can sign up for whichever tasks most appeal to them: crafts, concession stands, distributing candy, controlling crowds, wearing costumes, etc. There is no prior training needed! The dates for 2022 are Wednesdays and Saturdays between 10/12-10/29. Possible dates that students can decide to volunteer at include: 10/12 (6-9PM) 10/15 (12-9PM) 10/19 (6-9PM) 10/22 (12-9PM) 10/26 (6-9PM) 10/29 (12-9PM) Once students apply and are assigned a role, they will be able to select a date and time frame that works for them. In order to simplify tracking hours, this event is only open to LECOM pediatrics club members. We are having members sign up if they are interested; they will then record the day(s) they attended Zoo Boo and the hours volunteered. Several reminders will be sent to members to ensure that this information is recorded properly. This meeting will be focused around what is expected of medical students while they are rotating in orthopedics. I will have Dr. Bryan Anderson talking to the group about what he believes is important for medical students to know and do when they are on an orthopedic rotation to really stand out and make good impressions. Dr. Anderson is the Chief Resident under Dr. Tuck and has also given several of the MSK system lectures so his input is seen as being invaluable on what a resident is looking for a medical student to do to make a good impression during an orthopedic rotation. This is planned to be an in person meeting at Bethel Church at 6pm on 9/28/22. If this location is not available then this meeting will move to zoom at the same time and date COVID-19 Risk Control: While this is going to be held indoors the students will be asked to wear masks and there will be 4 people per table to insure that there is enough space between each student to minimize the risk.

A minimum of one adult staff member from the YMCA (usually 2-3 are present on a regular basis however) will be present at every meeting to be in control and take responsibility for the program and children. The purpose of the presence of the LECOM students once a week at the Kid's Club, a site run by the YMCA off campus from LECOM, is to help mentor and facilitate personal growth in the children of the program. Wade, what it means to give power back to the state, and the professional ideologies surrounding pro-life and pro-choice. We will be using fact-based videos and professional guest speakers in hopes that our peers will take this information and make educated, and compassionate stances on the topic as future physicians. Who? Women's Health Club What? A Conversation about the Overturn of Roe V. Wade, 3 Guest Speakers, viewing of Dr. Francis' court approval of the overturn (5minutes). When? October 3rd @ 6pm Why? Our goal is to educate our peers so they can make informed stances as aspiring physicians. Event Plan: 1. Opening a. Women's Health club Eboard will present a brief PowerPoint i. Roe vs. Wade history ii. Timeline of trials regarding reproductive rights throughout history in America. iii. What are abortions? Medicated and procedural interventions iv. Why do women seek abortion care? Are there alternatives? 2. Recent Changes a. Crime Victims Center Erie - Amy Blackburn 1. What has been your experience with abortions in crime victim care? 2. How does the overturn of Roe V. Wade affect victims and their healing process? 3. Do you have any concerns regarding the outlawing of abortion? Are there alternatives? iii. UPMC Women’s Physical Therapist Perspective: Jackie Berry 1. What has been your experience with abortions in health care? 2. What does physical therapy do for women after giving birth or having an abortion? 3. What harm, if any, does outlawing abortion play in the physical health of women? 4. In states that restrict abortion laws, how will this affect your patients? b. Q & A with the professionals. All three are LECOM alumni/students: Kent Axcell (current MS4 and former radiology club president), Dr. Henry Wei (current resident at AHN), and Dr. Olivia Hallas (current resident at Cleveland Clinic). The goal is to have the speakers talk about why radiology may or may not be a good fit for you, and how to prepare for rotations and residency. Since the speakers have gone through the residency application process fairly recently, it should be a good opportunity to learn about what to expect from a first-hand account. The event will be over zoom and last no more than one hour.

The general breakdown of the event will include a 15 minutes introduction from all of the physicians followed by a 30 minute Q&A. Each physician will have 5 minutes to introduce themselves during the first 15 minutes. They can discuss bread and butter cases, unique cases that appeared during practice, etc. During the 30 minute breakout room Q&A sessions, students may ask physicians specific specialty questions. Students will be able to move from breakout room to room. SGA board members will assist in leading the Q&A panels.

We are utilizing the same design and logo that was approved for last year's jacket sale. I will inform the students of our fundraiser by sending out an email to our members, as well as posting in the class communication pages in case any student outside of ACOS is interested. The board will then disperse jackets out during a future meeting, lunch in the cafeteria, or offer shipping through the manufacturer. During the distribution of the jackets, the following COVID guidelines will be followed: 1.) We will have a full roster of every individual who has ordered a jacket 2.) We will have a check-in for all members and staff who pick up their jackets in person. 3.) We will require masks during distribution/pick-up 4.) We will sanitize the table before and after to avoid the potential spread of COVID 5.) We will divide the pickup time by last name to ensure there is no overcrowding, resulting in minimal exposure

The items selected for the event were voted on by the student body in a google form that was sent out in August. Items: 1. Pins for white coat 2. Pocket Medicine Book for Rotations 3. Skincare face mask 4. Sports Drinks 5. Scrub Caps 6. Retractable badges 7. Reusable Water bottles We will also give out snacks that were left over from our Welcome Fair. Prior Planning: Anthony Dicecca and Khin Oo will purchase/ order the items. Set up: SGA Board - Khin Oo, Anthony Dicecca, Tyler Dobratz, Serene Bahi, Ananya Koka, William Kim, and Abhay Dhillon will set up items in the Vora lounge at 11:30 am. All items are individually wrapped for COVID safety. Students will be able to come into the Vora lounge from 11:30 am - 1: 00 pm to choose their items (Maintaining social distancing and room capacity rules). Clean up at 1:00 pm. The event will allow students to gain insight into some helpful tips. The event will be on October 17th from 6 PM – 7 PM. The three MS3 students that have been selected are Ronnie Lott, Sam Wlasowicz, and Jayleen Everett. The selected students have been approved by Dr.Kalmey. A google form will be provided ahead of time for students to submit any questions they want to ask the presenters. This will be a great event for students to gain some insight from peers that very recently went through the process.

The voter registration would take place from September 30th, October 3rd & October 4th during lunch in the cafeteria (we can also move it to another week) and we would like to host an event for students called, "Voting As a Medical Student." via Zoom on October 19th at 6PM. Medical students and medical professionals are expected to be leaders in their communities. Civic engagement is part of leadership. SNMA has partnered with an organization called Vot-ER, founded by an emergency physician at Mass General Hospital. They focus on creating a stronger healthcare system by empowering patients, healthcare providers, and health professional students to vote. This work is particularly important given the impact of COVID. They have created a badge backer that makes it easy to have a person register to vote on their own phone or request a mail-in ballot to vote at home this election cycle. The platform walks them through either process in 90 seconds or less. Now, as ever, civic engagement is crucial to protecting and improving the health of the patients and communities we serve. Vot-ER is a strictly nonprofit, nonpartisan organization. And it is the individual who chooses to engage and does so on their own device. We simply aim to provide the tools for individuals to be engaged with the system and have a chance to make their voice heard on issues that matter to them. 	September 20, 2022 at 8:54 AM	Approved	Second Harvest Food Pantry Drive	SOMA	09/20/2022	10/24/2022	The Student Osteopathic Medical Association at LECOM is partnering with Second Harvest to sponsor a food drive for those in need in the local community in Erie. Students at LECOM will be donating non-perishable food items in a contactless manner. Food items to be collected include canned goods, pasta, and water. Donations will be collected by Health Disparities director Austen Rankin and dropped off at Second Harvest Food Bank in time for Thanksgiving. This drive will run from October 24- November 4th with a box left in the security office for donations. Community Outreach Directors Sam Teru and Paarth Sharma will be assisting in picking up the food several times so that food will not accumulate and crowd the security office. A sign-up sheet will be sent out prior to the event to specify what goods are needed to be donated. This event has been successful in the past years that it has been done, and we anticipate it being another success. Community service hours will be awarded, 0.5 hours per two items, for a maximum of 3 hours.
