March 29, 2021 at 11:49 AMApprovedVirtual Be The Match RegistrationSOMA03/29/202105/01/2021LECOM SOMA-Erie is requesting to compete in the Virtual Be The Match Registration Drive to help grow the Bone Marrow Registry. A blood stem cell donation can be a cure for blood cancer, sickle cell, and other deadly diseases. Patients and their families are counting on us to find their match. But not everyone has an equal chance - patients are more likely to match with donors from their same ethnic background. This recruitment drive will be online and completely virtual. LECOM-SOMA hopes to further educate the LECOM community, about how bone marrow donation works! There will be an information session about how bone marrow donation works, how to donate, and what the benefits of donation are. Attendees can go online to order a swab kit. Swab kits will be sent to their home and can be returned in the postage-paid envelope. No contact necessary! We will be competing throughout the month of May with other schools in our region (LECOM-SH and UNECOM) for the prized "Golden Swab"!

March 29, 2021 at 2:08 PMApprovedSOMA Virtual Cooking NightSOMA03/29/202105/14/2021SOMA wants to encourage members to remain as interconnected as possible during COVID and foster meaningful relationships with their peers. Additionally, we want to provide ample opportunities to attend stress-relieving events and connect with the SOMA club. SOMA wants to host a Zoom Baking event as a social night for our members. This event will remain contactless, as members will be sent a list of ingredients prior, join a Zoom call held by SOMA, and follow along with the instructions provided by SOMA representatives. SOMA also wants to propose having the option to receive ingredients provided by us, as we can buy and pre package these ingredients. An RSVP will be sent out to the members, where they can let us know if they want to receive ingredients from us, and we will set up times that these members can stop by a predetermined location for a no-contact drop off. Based on the RSVP response from this, SOMA will be able to calculate the cost of this event based on the supplies purchased, currently approximated to be less than $100. For the first session, members attending will be able to vote on the baked goods that we cook during the event, and cost can be calculated.

We will all join the Zoom link and after a brief introduction by SOMA’s OPP director, Dr. Hendryx will lead us in a guided meditation. SOMA will send out a poll to members to see what date will work best for the most students using the dates Dr. Hendryx already approved. A date the week of April 26th - taking place completely virtually on the Zoom platform. SOMA wants to create a COVID-safe opportunity for students to experience this facet of OPP, and see how we can better implement this practice into our day-to-day lives.
