This is the 21st year for this incredible event, which serves four Pennsylvania counties, and last year the Erie location gathered nearly 10,000 pounds of food. Ten Thousand Pounds. The event will take place at the Erie News Now station at 3514 State Street, Erie, PA 16508 on Wednesday, November 17, 2021. At the food drive, we will be unloading donations out of people’s vehicles, weighing them, and loading them into a large Second Harvest semi. This event will take place entirely outside and participants will be masked and gloved. Participants will sanitize between each load of donation collected. Community members that are donating will be encouraged to stay in their cars to minimize contact. Our goal would be to get a total of 7 students interested in as many of the following 2hr time slots as we can: 6AM-8AM 8AM-10AM 10AM-12PM 12PM-2PM 2PM-4PM 4PM-6:30PMOctober 25, 2021 at 10:12 PMApprovedHoliday Card Drive for St. Mary's SLCSOMA10/25/202111/29/2021Idea: SOMA will be putting together a Holiday Card drive. This will be a contactless event, and we propose having collection boxes at the entrance to Main Campus. Students will be able to leave the cards for collection. Items will be picked up at the end of the drive by myself (Ellie Schommer) or Co-Chair Garrett Kettle. We will advertise this event to the entire Class of 2024 and class of 2025 so they are able to participate. At the conclusion of the drive, I will arrange a date and time to drop off the supplies to St. Mary’s Senior Living Center. This will be done in a contact-free manner. Why: SOMA wants to create a COVID-safe opportunity for students to get involved in the Erie community. Having this drive creates an event for LECOM students to reach out and be involved with the Erie community. Proposed dates: Monday November 29 – Friday December 3 Alternate dates: Monday December 6 – Friday December 10October 25, 2021 at 10:39 PMApprovedSOMA Toiletry DriveSOMA10/25/202111/15/2021Proposed dates: Monday November 15 – Friday November 19 Alternate dates: Monday November 8 – Friday November 12 Idea: SOMA will be putting together a toiletry drive. When communicating with local Erie schools for the school supply drive, admin stated that there was a great need for toiletries and cleaning supplies at the local community pantry for students and their families. This will be a contactless event, and we propose having collection boxes at the entrance to Main Campus. Students will be able to leave toiletry items for collection. Items will be picked up at the end of the drive by myself (Ellie Schommer) or Co-Chair Garrett Kettle. We will advertise this event to the entire Class of 2024 and class of 2025 so they are able to participate. At the conclusion of the drive, I will arrange a date and time to drop off the supplies to an Erie Community Pantry in need. This will be done in a contact-free manner. Why: SOMA wants to create a COVID-safe opportunity for students to get involved in the Erie community. Having this drive creates an event for LECOM students to reach out and be involved with the Erie community.October 26, 2021 at 5:56 PMApprovedMitchell CaseySAAO10/26/202111/26/2021SAAO wishes to hold a raffle with the chance for students or staff to win one of the OPP tables we held a sale for earlier in the year.July 1, 2022 at 2:29 PMApprovedCharity Miles FundraiserChristian Medical and Dental Association07/01/202209/01/2022CMDA was so excited with how the event went last semester, so we decided to do the event again this fall. We are going to be raising money for Active Minds in the month of September. Active Minds is a charity that raises money to help with suicide prevention. We decided to do it during the month of September since it is suicide prevention month. We have decided to give the top 5 participants $10 gift cards. We are also going to send out a form for the people who are interested in participating, and then on the first day of the event we are going to send out the team name for everyone to join and then start walking, running, or biking. Everything is done on the app called Charity Miles, and the money is sent to the charity directly through the app. The participants will just make an account, join our team, and then work out on their own to raise money for the charity.November 3, 2021 at 3:36 PMApprovedNeuropsych tshirtsNeuropsych Club11/03/202111/19/2021Neuropsych club will be collecting orders for tshirts. This remote presentation (via Zoom) from Amy Ventry, MSW and Social Service Coordinator at Lakeland Area Hospice, will guide us through what an advanced directive is and how to write one for ourselves, and how to carry out one for our future patients. With COVID becoming increasingly present in our world and with younger people being severely affected, it is important that young adults have advanced directives in place. While we hope to never need to use advanced directives, it is still crucial that we have our wishes be known in the event of being unable to make these decisions. Amy will give a 45 minute remote presentation about advanced directives, and then will open the floor for questions about advanced directives and her presentation.
