We are hoping to get the second years pocket sized leather notebooks that they can use on rotations that are custom made with the LECOM logo etched into the leather. March 19, 2019 at 7:40 AMApprovedEmergency Medicine Club Tourniquet SalesEmergency Medicine03/19/201904/16/2019This event is aimed at preparing our students for one of the worst possible scenarios they may come across in their day to day lives. Building off of the Wilderness Medicine Club's first aid kit sale, it is common to carry a tourniquet alongside your kit for dire circumstances. Current research shows the significant decrease in traumatic mortality when a tourniquet is applied to uncontrollable extremity bleeds. We hope that by running this fundraiser our students will be safer and better prepared for the unforeseen circumstances that have unfortunately become all too common in today's day and age. The cost for each unit will be at most will be $29.99; however depending on number we are looking at ordering in bulk to reduce cost for our students. This event will include several clinical scenarios and skills stations led by St. Vincent residents that will provide practical hands on exposure that will be very useful for us as future clinicians in a fun environment. The event will occur on 5/3/19 and run from 1:30-5pm at the Kearsarge Fire Department. The cost of registration will be $15. The scenarios/stations will include, but not be limited to: - Trauma Assessments (Utilizing ABCDE and a mock patient) - Airway Management (Intubation and basic airway management) - 2+ Scenarios that have been covered in lecture (Undisclosed) - Patient extrication/ Stretcher Improvisation - Chemical Exposure/Poisoning - Hyperthermia/Hypothermia We are also trying to get our hands on a portable ultrasound machine to be available to us to learn/practice certain emergency diagnostics (FAST exams)!
