This is a great opportunity to practice your BP taking skills and to encourage patients to do routine health monitoring, as a way to prevent and/or delay hypertension. Student volunteers should bring their own BP cuff and stethoscope. Educational resources for blood pressure reduction would be available for anyone interested. February 8, 2022 at 8:51 PMCompleteEaster Baskets for Premie Babies in Local Erie HospitalsWomens Health Club02/08/202203/28/2022This will be our second event of the semester. Students will be donating money or highly needed items for Grady's Decision non-profit organization that helps families experiencing financial, spiritual, and emotional hardships as they care for their premie babies in the hospitals around Erie. The items include but are not limited to diapers, bottles, blankets, and easter stuffed animals. Then, the E-Board members will assemble "easter baskets" using the donated items and deliver them with the cash donations to Grady's Decision non-profit for distribution. Ryan Smith will be a guest speaker via zoom to explain the mission of the non-profit to members, and give his personal story and inspiration for starting his organization.
August 25, 2022 at 11:23 AMCompleteThe Maternal Health Crisis: A ConversationSNMA08/25/202209/07/2022Our event is going to be a discussion about maternal healthcare in the US. We will be working with Women’s Health and Medical Society, and the Erie community chapter of Medical Students for Choice. The event will take place via Zoom or other online video platform on September 7th from 6-7:30pm, and the event will be mostly planned by SNMA and WHMS. The event will consist of several discussions with student facilitators who will be provided a set of questions to guide the conversations. We will also have guidelines in place to ensure safe, respectful conversations among peers. MSFC will be introduced as an outside community organization unaffiliated with LECOM, and the speaker will be Lindsey Gorman, the president of the chapter. She will be discussing her organization's role in maternal health. The other two speakers leading the discussion and event will be from SNMA and WHMS e-board representatives.

She did her medical schooling at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her Internal Medicine residency at The Ohio State University. She will speak about how to match into a successful top residency program and her experience being a cardiology fellow. Dr. Jasneet is also currently applying for an electrophysiology fellowship, so she will speak about that as well. This event will be happening on zoom (link to be made). The death toll has passed 47,000 and is continuously increasing. Along with casualties, Turkey and Syria have experienced property damage to hospitals, roads, and bridges. AMMSA would like to host a basketball tournament fundraiser with all proceeds to be directed towards the damage from the earthquake in Turkey/Syria. We hope to have a bracket tournament with a small prize for the winners to support everyone impacted by the earthquake.

This apparel will help spread the SAAO club awareness and help encourage new members to join to grow their OPP knowledge. We plan on trying to find a local apparel company to fulfill our orders and we want to offer this design on t-shirts, long sleeves, crew necks, quarter zips, and sweatshirts. Price will be determined once the design is approved and a company is chosen.

We would like to offer a short sleeve, long sleeve, and crew necks in a standard Gildan ultra cotton t shirt in grey, light blue and navy blue colors. We believe that our costing will range between $10 and $12 and we would sell them with a $7 markup to help generate funds for our convocation trip planned for March 2025. We expect that our costs will go down with an increase quantity of shirts ordered. Our executive board will coordinate t-shirt orders during our regularly scheduled forums. We will take orders in person and via email from our members, collect funds in form of check/cash prior to placing the order with the company, and then distribute the apparel at one of our biweekly forums.

This would entail a week where each day there is an event to boost students' wellness. The events are as follows: Monthly meditation with Dr. Hendrix at the wellness center (Monday) Yoga at the wellness center (Tuesday as normally scheduled) PJ day (students who donate $5 will be able to wear PJs to school for a day, all donated funds will go to the psych floor at Millcreek community hospital) (Wednesday when students have OPP and are in OPP attire anyways for the afternoon) Succulent making in the Vora Lounge (Thursday at 6pm) Art + make your own tea sachet in the Vora Lounge (Friday at 6pm) To mitigate Covid risks, students will be asked to stay at home if they are sick. We will have a sign-up sheet for the meditation session as usual. Yoga will be first come first serve as usual at the wellness center and does not require any additional scheduling as it is already part of the weekly schedule at the wellness center. We are including yoga in hopes of getting students to use the wellness center more and increase attendance at the yoga classes. All money donated will be donated via Zelle to SGA. Upon sending their money, students will receive a virtual ticket they will have to show as they enter campus in their PJs. We are hoping to collect funds in order to give back to our LECOM community.

The Pre-SOMA directors (and potentially other SOMA volunteers) at LECOM would like to host review night Q & A sessions/and or review presentations for the MMS students here at our LECOM campus. Our efforts will be focused on mentoring and guiding these students towards understanding courses and high yield concepts in their own way outside of structured lectures, with the intent to foster an environment that promotes collaborative learning with open feedback responses from medical students who have previously been in the MMS program and are now successful in the MS1 class. We believe this could be a great opportunity for MMS students to learn how they will shape their study habits, and for our directors it will be an opportunity to reinforce our future physician skills of mentorship and educating.

We can accommodate around 15 people per event. Fitness/nutrition is a huge passion of mine which led me to become a NASM certified personal trainer and nutrition coach during undergrad. I hope to instill this passion onto everyone at LECOM and make fitness fun for all.

The Patagonia's will allow for custom embroidery and will feature the school crest logo (attached). The event will take place remotely (with pick up at the school), in the early Fall Semester. A Google Form will be sent out as soon upon event approval, and the sale will run through late August. The company we will be using is Threadfellows, we have already established a relationship and have the site ready for use in the fall pending approval. Multiple types of Patagonia jackets will be offered, including vests, full zip jackets, and quarter zip jackets. Pick up will be in the LECOM cafeteria.
June 4, 2025 at 11:08 AMCompleteNDMA Bone Marrow Cheek Swab at LECOM Club FairSSP06/04/202508/09/2025This event request is in regards to hosting a table at the 2025 Involvement Fair that will allow students to get their cheek swabbed in order to join the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) registry. NMDP is an organization that helps people who desperately need stem cell transplants who are unable to find a donor with an HLA match. There is only a 0.001% of a patient finding an HLA match of all six HLA genes from an unrelated donor. If by chance a student is someone’s match, they always have the choice to decline donating. However, donating stem cells is described to be very similar to donating plasma, and through the process students could potentially save someone’s life. The National Marrow Donor Program is willing to provide all necessary cheek-swabbing supplies for this event.

July 3, 2025 at 8:30 PMCompleteSAAO T-Shirt FundraiserSAAO07/03/202508/05/2025SAAO will be ordering T-shirts for forum writers and E-board members so that students can more easily identify who to direct their questions to during forums. We will be making 35 of these shirts in a light blue color. Additionally, if anyone would like to purchase a shirt, we will be ordering shirts to sell to students with a similar design but in a darker blue shade for $20.00 each. All shirts will say SAAO Lecom Erie on the front with an anatomical question mark on the back. The darker blue shirts that will be for sale for all students will additionally have "OMT... I use it, D.O. you?" on the back. The attached designs will be ordered, however the shirt colors will be light blue (for forum writers) and darker blue (for purchase). We will store the shirts and students can purchase them at any time during throughout the semester during forums or if they contact SAAO E-board. Funds raised from the T-shirts will be used for future events and convocation costs.

When shown the attached flyer at checkout, 15% of the proceeds from the purchase will be donated to SAAO. The money raised will be used towards special events and convocation expenses.
