We are opening up assistance in preparation for the mock exam to SSP so that MS2s can gain volunteer hours for their time. The written component will take place in the Cadaver lab while the oral will be held in the cafeteria. We will also be having a PBL mock practical at the same time happening in Lecture Hall C. The educational purpose of this event is to prepare MS1's for their first anatomy practical. It will be performed exactly as the real practical to allow students to gauge their level of understanding of the material. The following COVID-19 protocol will be strictly followed (if mandated at the time of the event): 1.) We will have a full roster of every individual who has signed up for the clinic--both volunteers and attendees 2.) We will have a check-in for all members and staff who attend the mock practical 3.) We will require masks, and uphold social distancing of at least 6 feet 4.) We will sanitize before and after the exam to avoid the potential spread of COVID 5.) We will create a screening form for all members that sign up and require that they disclose any signs and symptoms, travel history, and close contact history prior to attending 7.) We will keep attendees in smaller groups by generating different start times for their examSeptember 7, 2023 at 1:25 PMExpiredVolunteer with Walk to End Alzheimer'sNeuropsych Club09/07/202309/23/2023On Saturday September 23, 2023 Walk to End Alzheimers is hosting an event here in Erie, PA. The organizers of the event are calling for as many volunteers as possible to help with "set-up, clean-up, registration, water stops, Promise Garden and so much more" for their upcoming event (Walk to End Alz website). I think this would be a great opportunity for the members of the NeuroPsych club to give back to the community and engage in a population of folks we are sure to encounter as future Neurologists/Psychiatrists. Also, as a LECOM health sponsored event it would be a pleasure to show our bright smiling faces to the people of Erie. The first aim is to introduce our SOMA chapter constituents to resolution writing, and the process of advocacy possible to members enlisted in SOMA. This will entail a mock writing session centered around a light-hearted topic, overseen by SOMA Chapter Leaders, which may help spark debate and conversation, so that processes of argumentative writing are established, and constituents understand how and why we write resolutions in the set format. The second aim of this event is to initiate conversation between students to help establish comradery between incoming first year medical students, and between classes, so that we may help facilitate an idealism that truly, Osteopathic Medicine is a community.August 27, 2024 at 3:32 PMExpiredA.T. Purpose Students will gain hands-on experience interacting with patients and apply osteopathic manipulative medicine techniques to diagnose and treat musculoskeletal dysfunctions. II. Background Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (Erie campus) is renowned for its osteopathic medical education. Despite its strong educational framework, there is a lack of extracurricular opportunities to interact directly with patients during the preclinical years, which would be essential for medical student professional development and preparation for clerkship years. This lack of accessible clinical experiences prompted the idea for this clinic. It aims to bridge the gap by offering real-world practice opportunities for osteopathic medical students. Exposure to osteopathic manipulative treatment in practice can reinforce their understanding and appreciation of osteopathic principles, thereby fostering a deeper commitment to the methods and practices they are taught. Furthermore, the establishment of this clinic is not only beneficial for the students but also for the community. It provides an essential service to underserved populations, improving healthcare access and outcomes. By integrating osteopathic practices into community healthcare, the clinic promotes the growth and recognition of osteopathy as a vital component of modern medicine. III. Goals and Objectives Goals: 1. Create a dynamic learning environment where osteopathic medical students can apply their knowledge and hone their clinical skills under the guidance of experienced DOs. 2. Implement best practices for clinic administration, including efficient patient flow, accurate record-keeping, and compliance with healthcare regulations. 3. Provide accessible, high-quality osteopathic manipulative treatment to underserved populations, improving overall health outcomes within the community. 4. Position the clinic as a leading example of osteopathic care within the community, fostering greater acceptance and utilization of osteopathic medical practices. Objectives: 1. Enhance community health by providing osteopathic manipulative treatment to 10 patients per clinic session. 2. Organize 1 clinic session per month, potentially increasing the number of monthly sessions after the first year. IV. Description Duration: Each clinic visit will span approximately one hour, allowing time for students and preceptors to engage in practice and patient care. Location: On campus or Plaza 38 Medical Center Patient visit: • Mass emails will be sent to invite LECOM faculty, staff, and students as clinic patients. • Prior to each clinic session, all students will participate in preparatory sessions. These sessions will ensure uniformity in approach and readiness among students. • Patient records will be kept as e-charts • One first-year and one second-year student will work together for each visit: o First-year student: Observes and assists with documentation o Second-year student: Conducts history/physical examination, formulates diagnoses, and develops a treatment plan based on findings • The attending physician reviews the students' findings and guides the treatment process. They will provide feedback and reassessment of patient dysfunctions. • The second-year student will perform osteopathic manipulative treatments on the patient and reassess dysfunctions with the attending physician. • Plan for future visit Clinic dates for The 2026 academic year are as follows: 1/7, 2/4, 3/4, 4/1, 5/6. Students will arrive to the clinic by 17:00 to prepare for patients to arrive at 17:30 for the start of the clinic.
