Trautman-Buckley and Jaclyn Natalone Proposal: Health Disparities Diaper Drive for Mercy Center for Women Date: February 24-28 Location: LECOM Cafeteria The Mercy Center for Women is a sponsored ministry of the Sisters of Mercy and is committed to enhancing the dignity of each person it serves, through the healing of body, mind and spirit. Mercy Center for Women provides safe and supportive transitional housing, education, case management and advocacy for homeless women with or without children. MCW relies on donations in order to help vulnerable women and children in the Erie community. These women may be homeless for a variety of reasons and the staff at MCW helps to facilitate access to healthcare and dental care as well as act a stepping stone to these women getting back to independent living. Currently, MCW is in desperate need of some supplies. They particularly need diapers sizes 3-5 and wipes. However, there are a plethora of items accepted at MCW. The goal of this charity event is to ask the LECOM community to come together to provide much need items to MCW. While the focus will be on diapers and wipes, MCW also needs blank planners to help the women manage their appointments. They also accept all canned food, including baby food, as well as toiletries and clothing. Every donation made will aid a woman to better take care of her child, stay safe from domestic violence, andstay inside, warm, and fed during the winter months and beyond. Collecting these items will help to promote the health and well-being of some of Erie’s most vulnerable. We will need permission for a box to be placed in the LECOM cafeteria, or another suggested space.

The competition has a regional, state, national and international level. Working with Mercyhurst Univerisity, the neuro/psych club is looking to host the 2020 competition at LECOM for local students, their families and teachers.

The class will vote on a charity, and funds will be raised through ticket sales to donate to the chosen organization. In addition to ticket sales, we will be running a food drive to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank in Erie. Students who bring in canned goods to donate will be given a discount on the ticket price for the event. This event will be closely regulated by Dr. Shabloski. Dr. Shabloski and I will have meetings every two weeks to ensure that the event adheres to LECOM's policies and expectations. This will be a dry event. The theme will be a simple color scheme of gold, and all decorations will be approved by Dr. Shabloski before purchase. All planning of this event will be geared towards representing LECOM in the best possible manner. The 2023 class council and myself hope to make this an event that will benefit a great organization and that will make LECOM proud.

Tickets will be sold for between $35 and $45 to raise funds for this charity and to cover costs of the event. Our goal is to donate $1,500 dollars to Make-a-Wish to help make a child’s wish come true. We have recently discovered that his mother, step-father and brother have al bene diagnosed and are being treated for various types of cancer. His family owns their own restaurant in Florida, and have been unable to work much (if at all). We wanted to put together a quick fundraiser of selling holiday cookies to give Tyler a little bit of extra money to bring him to his family for the holidays. We request to use a table in the cafeteria this week, Tuesday 12/17 - Friday 12/20 during the lunch hour to sell the cookies.

A video game tournament fundraiser will be held to raise money for the local Children's Miracle Network Hospital (St.Vincent's). Children's Miracle Network Hospital is an organization that fund critical treatments and healthcare services, pediatric medical equipment and charitable care. This is only open to the students. During this tournament, the students will be playing two "E" rated games. Every participant will be able to write a Christmas letter to a child at the hospital and sign up for a free miracle band that will help spread the message that local children’s hospitals rely on everybody’s supports.

On 12/5/19 at 6:00pm. Similar to last year's event, we will be presenting information about the importance of skin care and what products should be avoided during pregnancy. After this short presentation, Olivia Hallas (a LECOM OSMIII student) will be doing a demonstration on how to make bath-bombs. Each student will be able to take home their own homemade bath-bomb. This event will help promote student wellness before finals begin.
