March 1, 2022 at 12:50 PMApprovedOlivia PupiecSpanish Medical Club03/01/202203/30/2022I am requesting for Dr. Jung to run a forum/be a guest speaker on the topic of cultural awareness. This is part of our clubs mission, to provide cultural awareness and enlighten students on topics and scenarios that could occur in the medical field. I feel this would be beneficial for all students, even those who are not even in the club as we will come into contact with patients from all different backgrounds.March 1, 2022 at 12:21 PMApprovedChocolate bar fundraiserMentoring03/01/202203/29/2022We would like to sell chocolate bars in the cafeteria and around school in order to fundraiser for our club.February 8, 2022 at 8:51 PMCompleteEaster Baskets for Premie Babies in Local Erie HospitalsWomens Health Club02/08/202203/28/2022This will be our second event of the semester. Basic neuroscience is notoriously one of the most difficult classes in medical school, and our Eboard feels it would be extremely beneficial to start hosting review sessions. These sessions will be over Zoom starting whenever the event is approved. We will have a sign up sheet for MS1 and MS2 Students to sign up to make review Powerpoints for basic neuroanatomy in exchange for community service hours. Making the presentations will be available to SSP and SOMA members, and the review nights will only be open to SOMA students. We hope this will bridge the gap that MS1's have had with transitioning into more difficult content and systems.March 16, 2022 at 4:52 PMCancelledMonthly MeetingSpanish Medical Club03/16/202203/23/2022A monthly update of club activities.February 9, 2022 at 7:54 PMRejectedSuturing ClinicACOS-MSS02/09/202203/18/2022ACOS-MSS would like to provide the opportunity for the maximum amount of interested students to learn the basics of suturing while ensuring that all COVID protocols are thoroughly followed. To achieve this, we would be holding two small group clinic sessions over the course of two separate dates rather than one large event. Each session will last three hours, and members may only sign up for one slot. By doing so, it will not only drastically limit the amount of potential contact between attendees but also minimize exposure time and always allow for ample social distancing. Dr. Jung will be facilitating this event with the rotating assistance of Dr. Coughlin and Dr. Risavi (other attendings will also be notified to maximize efficiency). During these small group clinic events, the following guidelines will be strictly followed: 1.) We will have a full roster of every individual who has signed up for the clinic 2.) We will have a check-in for all members and staff who attend the suturing clinic 3.) We will require masks, and uphold social distancing of at least 6 feet 4.) We will sanitize before and after the suturing clinic to avoid the potential spread of COVID 5.) We will create a screening form for all members that sign up and require that they disclose any signs and symptoms, travel history, and close contact history prior to attending 6.) Unvaccinated individuals will be allowed to attend, but they will be placed at a separate table, again maintaining at least 6 feet for proper social distancing. 7.) We will cap each session at 50 individuals to mitigate the potential spread of COVID *Our casting clinic permitted 50 individuals and was approved on November 18th, 2021. The event ran smoothly and no issues ensued.February 28, 2022 at 3:56 PMApprovedSSP General Body Meeting and Board Prep/ Rotations Q&ASSP02/28/202203/18/2022SSP will hold a general body meeting VIRTUALLY over Zoom on 3/18 at 6pm. This remote presentation (via Zoom) from Amy Ventry, MSW and Social Service Coordinator at Lakeland Area Hospice, will guide us through what an advanced directive is and how to write one for ourselves, and how to carry out one for our future patients. With COVID becoming increasingly present in our world and with younger people being severely affected, it is important that young adults have advanced directives in place. While we hope to never need to use advanced directives, it is still crucial that we have our wishes be known in the event of being unable to make these decisions. Amy will give a 45 minute remote presentation about advanced directives, and then will open the floor for questions about advanced directives and her presentation.
