The flashcard service is free to use and utilizes a technique called spaced repetition to help students learn and reinforce material. Despite flashcards being common in undergraduate, Anki is not heavily utilized until medical school. The purpose of this clinic is to teach any student the basic ins and outs of the flashcard service. I believe this will be an invaluable resource because many students may try using Anki when medical school starts; however, it takes time to actually learn how the system works. By giving them a preface on how to use the system, it means less of their time will be used on learning the system when the semester started. To lead this clinic, I have contacted Sam Wlasowicz a current OMS-IV. He won the Mr. Anki award 3 years ago, and has already led an Anki Clinic before with some success. I have already talked with him about what I would like him to focus on: basic use of Anki, different styles of Anki (cloze function vs. image occlusion vs. simple flashcards), etc. Funding: None Needed Timeline: I have already contacted Sam several times to ensure he has everything he needs, but I will contact him a week before the event to sure everything is okay. On the day of the event, I will start the Zoom meeting at 6:45 PM and the event will start promptly at 7:00. The clinic should take no longer than an hour to an hour and a half. No clean-up time is needed as the event is over Zoom.

The program aims to bridge the gap between experienced 2nd year students and incoming 1st year students, facilitating a smooth transition into the rigorous environment of medical school. Through mentorship, 2nd year students can offer valuable insights, advice, and encouragement to their 1st year mentees, helping them navigate the challenges of the curriculum, develop effective study strategies, and maintain a healthy work-life balance. Furthermore, the mentorship training program fosters a sense of camaraderie, creating a supportive network where 1st year students feel comfortable seeking guidance and mentorship from their more experienced peers. Ultimately, the program aims to enhance the overall academic success, personal growth, and professional development of both 1st and 2nd year medical students, while fostering a collaborative and nurturing learning environment within the medical school community. Funding: No funding is needed for this event. Timeline: The mentor applications should be submitted by 5/30/2023. The list of students will be reviewed by Dr. Thielman and Dr. Lee by mid-June. After they approve the list, we would forward the list of students to student affairs so that they too can approve the list. The general breakdown of the event will include me presenting the mentorship training PowerPoint to prospective mentors for 45 minutes. There will also be a separate mental health presentation given. Afterwards, I will address any questions the mentors have. As the semester concludes, many students are packing up to move to rotation sites or cleaning out for the summer so we think this would be a great opportunity to support the local food bank! Students will be able to donate pantry and non-perishable items for volunteer hours for a maximum of 2 service hours (.5 hours for each item). This will be a contactless event and students will be able to drop off their items by the security office. This will allow students to follow COVID guidelines in place at that time. At the end of the week, items will be picked up by SOMA board members Mia Tornel and Shreeman Nimmagadda. This event will be advertised to the Class of 2025 and 2026. At the conclusion of the event, items will be delivered to Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwestern Pennsylvania.

Volunteers will help pack food that will be distributed to children throughout several counties in NW Pennsylvania. These BackPacks will provide food for children to eat over the weekend when school meals are not provided. The IMS club advisor, Dr. Sarah McCarthy will be present for this event and volunteers will be required to wear masks at all times and comply with LECOM's COVID-19 policies/guidelines.

Volunteers would be removing invasive Buckthorn saplings and shrubs from the area to keep the trails and grounds accessible for the community. Work gloves and shovels would be provided. We would like to provide volunteers with lunch after cleanup. Asbury woods has given us permission to use their picnic tables on site. Pizza will be purchased and we will submit a reimbursement form. For safe distribution, gloves would be used for distribution of the food and those handling the food would be wearing masks as well. We will also have disinfectant on hand to clean down surfaces and hand sanitizer in the event bathrooms are unavailable. All beverages will be individually packaged.

	April 25, 2023 at 1:27 PM	Rejected	Andrew Bode	Simulation Club	04/25/2023	04/29/2023	Event Name: Intubation and Central Line Lab Club Involvement: Anesthesiology Club, Simulation Club, and Surgery Club When: April 29th 12:00 pm Where: Lecture Hall C Total Students: Open to all members of participating organizations, estimated 20 - 30 Educational Goals: ● Learn the basic requirements and options for matching into Anesthesiology ● Hear about the daily workday of a practicing physician in the field ● Learn the basic indications, anatomy, and procedure for the following interventions ○ Placement of a central venous catheter with ultrasound guidance ○ Tracheal Intubation ● Provide hands-on, practical experience with thoughtful clinical oversight Event Description: Part I: Guest speaker Dr. Adamina Podraza will introduce herself and give an overview of her career in anesthesiology. Following this, she will explain the use of central venous catheters and tracheal intubation in the field. She will then demonstrate proper placement of these devices in front of the students. Part II: Students will break into groups to practice the skills they just learned in a safe environment on training equipment. During this time, Dr. Podraza will observe the student’s efforts and answer additional questions. COVID Mitigation Plan: All students attest to the absence of symptoms and/or exposure to COVID-19 prior to the event via online submission. All LECOM precautions will remain in place including temperature screening, face masks, and proper hand-hygiene. All training equipment will be properly sanitized before and after each student.

We will be catering food from an outside vendor for dinner and are planning on charging $10 per person to help cover some of the expenses, and would like to use our budget to cover the remaining expenses. Educational purpose: Educate the campus about Eid traditions, celebrate an important Muslim holiday, and help diversify the community COVID mitigation plan: The event will take place in a space big enough for people to be spread out and mask enforcement will be followed based on the COVID case numbers. Vendor choices: As-Salam, Cleveland Grocers, Desi Khabba, or Paradise Biryani Pointe (we have not decided on a restaurant yet but these are our options)

As IMS club is full of students who have either served on medical mission trips before or are passionate to serve in the future, we believe that this would be a great opportunity to learn from an experienced medical missionary. Our IMS club advisor, Dr. Sarah McCarthy will be present for this event and all students will comply with LECOM's COVID-19 policies/guidelines. Funding: No funding is necessary for this event. The general breakdown of the event will include a 30 minute introduction from Dr. Ryan Lynch. He can discuss bread and butter cases, unique cases that appeared during practice, etc. In the last 30 minutes, students may ask specific specialty questions. SGA board members will assist in leading the Q&A panels.

Students, faculty, and staff are welcome to present our flyer during their visit to help raise funds for our club. The fundraiser will take place during Andora's business hours from 10am- 8pm and we will offer an optional group meetup at Andora's at 6pm, open to LECOM associated individuals and APAMSA members, to encourage group interaction within the LECOM community. Andora's will offer 25% of their profits during the fundraiser and all proceeds will be kept for future APAMSA funds/spendings. LECOM protocol and COVID restrictions will be implemented during the optional meet-up.

She did her medical school at Al-Ameen Medical College, residency at Austin State Hospital, and completed a Child and Adolescent fellowship from Northwestern University in Chicago, IL. With over 15 years of experience as a privately practicing physician she brings valuable insight for students interested in psychiatry in general and the ins and outs of running your own practice. During the event, Dr. Jafry will answer questions asked by students and provide her understanding on what we as students can see as the “light at the end of the tunnel”. Prior to the event we will open up a google document so students can pose questions for Dr. Jafry to answer. Also, as part of our COVID mitigation strategy we will be hosting the event over Zoom.

He will be giving a talk on the mesolimbic pathway via Zoom. The purpose of this lecture is to help students understand the widespread and important effects of opioids on the brain structure and function in greater detail than typically learned in class. Since the lecture will be held over zoom, students will be able to social distance and follow LECOM's COVID guidelines at that time.

Location: Box in front of the security office Purpose: To allow LECOM students to show their support for the veterans by writing thank you cards. These cards will have been previously written and will be dropped off. Funding: No funding needed for the event. The general breakdown is that within the timeframe is that the thank you cards will be dropped off to the SGA members via a box by the security office. After 4/24/2023, the SGA members will package the cards and send them to address listed in the attached document. COVID concerns will be mitigated by not having a large number of people present in a small area.
	January 18, 2023 at 10:38 AM	Rejected	AOA's DO Day on Capital Hill	SOMA	01/18/2023	04/19/2023	What: SOMA Members will travel to Washington DC by bus to partake in AOA's 2023 DO Day on Capital Hill. This is a fantastic opportunity for osteopathic medical students to advocate to congress on behalf of the profession, as well as network and meet physicians from their home state. There is a training provided by the AOA prior to the congressional meetings to educate students about the issues that will be discussed in the meetings. This year, it is incredibly important to have a good LECOM representation at DO Day, as two LECOM students will be seated on the National SOMA Board of Trustees. Rebecca Wolff will be serving as the next National SOMA President, and I will be serving as the Region I Trustee. Having LECOM students support the mission of National SOMA by advocating at DO day on the Hill would highlight the importance of student participation, and by having a large student representation we will be showing support for Rebecca in this role. I have attached a tentative memorandum provided by the AOA in the additional documents section of this request. Andersen bus will pick up students from Seton Hill on the way to DC Anticipated arrival in DC: 1800 Andersen bus will depart Washington DC to return to LECOM at 1700 on April 20th. Seton Hill students will be dropped of at Seton Hill's campus on the way back to Erie. How: We are proposing that SOMA provides mass transportation via bus to keep the costs down for students. We also will issue a sign up sheet to organize housing rooms, making sure to keep male and female students in separate rooms. The proposed bus company is Anderson Coach and Travel. The hotel is DoubleTree by Hilton in Silver Springs. There will be a sign up sheet provided to determine those eligible for attending. As per the LECOM policy on conference travel, any student wishing to attend the conference must have a 3.0 GPA, which will be verified by student affairs prior to accepting a student on the trip. Other eligibility will be determined based on class attendance requirements. If there are still students in excess of how many people we are able to transport, priority will be given to current SOMA officers, previous SOMA officers, and SGA officers. Students will be required to fund their own meals while at the conference unless otherwise provided by the AOA. It will be the responsibility of each student to verify their eligibility status with their advisor, as well as academic standing with Student Affairs, prior to attending. Each student will also be responsible for filling out their own excused absence form and submitting it to the appropriate personnel. In addition, it will be the responsibility of each student to catch up on any schoolwork they missed.
