The collection bin will be housed in the security office from 11/27 to 12/8. The morning of 12/9, Savannah Sokalski will deliver them to Alex Lockwood at the Second Harvest Food Bank (Contact info: Special Events & Volunteer Coordinator, 1507 Grimm Dr. Erie, PA 16501, 814.459.3663 x 113). The contract agreement for the fundraiser has been attached. The products for donation are: dish soap, cleaning products, paper towels, toilet paper, tissues, laundry soap, shampoo, body wash, canned fruits and veggies, canned soup, canned meats, and canned beans. Students will receive 1 volunteer hour for every 3 items donated, with a maximum of 2 volunteer hours for 6 donated items. However, students can donate as many items as they wish. This event will be open to the whole school, not just Pathology Club members. The Excel spreadsheet used for sign-ups and recording of volunteer hours is attached.

They are looking for new underwear for men and women, T-shirts for men and women, and socks. We will provide a box in the main lobby to collect the goods, and send out an excel sheet for people to sign up to bring items. People may donate up to 4 items for up to 2 service hours total, each item being .5 service hours. We will do a contactless delivery of products to mitigate COVID.

The event would involve students students donating toys from a list provided to us by Lutheran Bethesda Services, a local children's shelter. After completing their donations, students will drop off their gifts in a collection box kept outside of the security office, similar to other donation drives. Collection will begin on November 27 and end on December 13th. Each gift donation will count for 0.5 hours with a maximum of 3 hours (6 donations). Hours will count towards SSP and LECOM hours. Approval is still pending from Touch Point. After the collection date, the gifts will be delivered to Bethesda Lutheran Services. Please see below a PDF of the flyer for the event.
October 16, 2023 at 12:50 PMApprovedDonation Drive for Community of Caring & Guest Speaker Maureen DunnEmergency Medicine10/16/202311/17/2023We would like to give our members the opportunity to participate in a donation drive to benefit the organization Community of Caring. Community of Caring provides support to community members experiencing homelessness. They need items such as clothing, soap, toothbrushes, sanitary napkins, etc. We will run a donation drive that allows members to donate to this critical organization and support the community. The drive involves students signing up on an excel spreadsheet for the items they would like to donate from November 17th-24th. We would then provide a bin for the students to drop off their donations from November 27th – December 1st. The donation bin will be left near the security office, and emptied as it fills to ensure enough space for donations to be left in the bin. For participating in the drive we will offer 1 service hour for every 2 items a student donates, with each student able to earn a maximum of 2 service hours. Students will be dropping off donations to the bin located in the LECOM building and therefore adhere to LECOM COVID mitigation policies. All correspondence for the event will be done through email and E-Board members will drop off the items to the ‘Community of Caring’ organization afterwards. The Director of the Community of Caring organization, Maureen Dunn, would also like to speak to students over zoom on Thursday November 30th from 6-7pm about Community of Caring and how the donations will be used. This will give students insight into the local non-profit in case they would like to volunteer for them again in the future. Our Club advisor, Dr. Risavi, approves of the event.

The Family Medicine Club connected with her an Osteopathic Family Medicine Conference in Hershey. She will be speaking about her experience as an Osteopathic Family Physician on November 16th, at 5:30PM over Zoom. She will be sharing general information about her path to become a family medicine physician, her osteopathic training, and offering any advice to current students. The speaking event will be followed by a Q&A session. Anyone is welcome to come prepared with questions about her life, asking for advice, or to just listen. The event help help aspiring family medicine medical students learn more from a current osteopathic physician. Also, it will be a great meeting for those not sure of a specialty to learn more about the field. No food will be involved in this event. Blaze makes fliers for the event with their store information, the club name (not including the LECOM logo), and instructions on how to present the flyer. The flyer is not made until closer to the event, however, an example of the flyer is attached to this request. The supporters will either show this flier or enter the promo code assigned for our fundraising event. After the event, a check will be mailed to the Pathology Club President, Savannah Sokalski, and be delivered to the SGA treasurer directly. Instructions for fundraiser per the company: "During the event, your supporters present the flyers (printed out or on their cell phones) when they order their fast-fire’d creation. For online fundraisers, your supporters should order on blazepizza.com or via the Blaze Pizza App and then enter the online code provided on the flyer at checkout in the “Promo Code" field. After approval, a Google form or spreadsheet will be sent to the student body where students can input their choice(s) of hoodie/sweater, color, size, etc. Additionally, the form will request that the student submit payment via Venmo, cash or other acceptable form of payment at that time. Once the form submissions and payments are tallied together, the final group order will be placed and pick up will be arranged to occur in the cafeteria or Vora lounge.

There will be a presentation to discuss the importance of airway management, and to familiarize students with protocols and techniques. There will then be a hands-on learning opportunity for students to participate in practicing intubation techniques. It will give our members the chance to interact with one another while learning valuable skills they will learn more about on rotations. All equipment for the interactive activity will be provided by Dr. Risavi. A sign-up sheet will be provided for students to participate with a maximum of 30 students allowed to sign-up. Students will adhere to current COVID Regulations set by LECOM. Our Club Advisor, Dr. Risavi, has approved of the event and will be in attendance. This event will be held on Saturday November 11th in Pharmacy Lecture Hall A and the OPP Lab from 8:00am – 4:00pm.

October 20, 2023 at 1:13 PMApprovedKnot Tying ClinicACOS-MSS10/20/202311/10/2023ACOS-MSS will be hosting a knot tying clinic in the micro lab for the first and second year members. Several LECOM third and fourth year students who have already had a surgical rotation as well as our advisor, Dr. Risavi, will be working with the students to demonstrate and teach the skill of knot tying. Students will be asked to bring a shoelace for their own use. The educational purpose of this event is to introduce knot tying to medical students prior to rotations. After speaking with several third and fourth year students, they have expressed the importance of this skill during their surgical rotation. The following COVID-19 protocol will be strictly followed (if mandated at the time of the event): 1.) We will have a full roster of every individual who has signed up for the event 2.) We will have a check-in for all members and staff who attend 3.) We will sanitize before and after the clinic to avoid the potential spread of COVID

The vision of this organization is to "become a vehicle to inspire young people to become active, socially engaged and united upon our shared Islamic and humanitarian values. Raising money to help countless Orphans and Needy Children across the World is just one outcome. Whatever the problem, no matter how complex or how longstanding, we will always find it easier to solve when we all work together." A $10 fee will be charged to each person interested in participating in the tournament. 100% of the funds raised will go towards the organization. We will use our own club's funds to purchase water, cups, and trophies for the winning team. The tournament will work as a bracket 2-3 point system, first to 21. We will request teams of 3 and have 2 tournaments happening at the same time playing half-court games. We will have referees and board members to keep track of points and the bracket tournament. We were hoping to host this event on Saturday, November 4th from 9:00 AM-1:00 PM at the LECOM Wellness Center (5401 Peach St, Erie, PA 16509). This weekend seemed to work best with the MS1 and MS2 schedules so we hope to have good attendance for our event. I have called and confirmed availability with the Wellness Center and they notified me that we can host our event at the requested date/time.

Location: LECOM Cafeteria Purpose: To provide a comfortable venue for mentors and mentees to meet and discuss various topics and questions. Funding: We will be using SGA funds to purchase donuts. The general breakdown of the event will be that SGA members will arrive with the donuts at 6:50am and make sure we are ready to host all the mentors and mentees. From 7:00am to 7:50am, mentors and mentees can meet in the cafeteria and discuss how everything is going so far in medical school over a donut. For the last 10 minutes, SGA members will ensure that everything in the cafeteria is cleaned up.

This workshop presents a chance for students to learn how to identify and treat a trauma vector. As future osteopath, it is important that we explore avenues of wholistic treatments, and since trauma vectors are not covered in our OPP lab curriculum, SAAO hopes this will be a wonderful learning experience for our members to partake in.
