The attendees of the event will be club members of the Erie LECOM SAOAO chapter. Members will have to RSVP prior to attendance. The location will be the same Millcreek Hospital education meeting room where the orthopedic residents hold their weekly education meetings (Room 202). The content of the lecture will be basic plating technique/considerations as well as application and purpose of Ex-Fix. The orthopedic club will supply food for attendees in the form of Panera sandwiches.

December 18, 2023 at 12:47 PMRejectedMMS Review NightsSOMA12/18/202301/12/2024SOMA students will lead review sessions to help guide students on study strategies as MMS students work through the rigor of LECOM curriculum. There was high attendance in the Fall Semester and MMS students have requested it again for the Spring. As MMS students work through the semester, SOMA students who are OMS1s/OMS2s will volunteer their time to host a short, virtual review of the material and high yield topics. SOMA students will coordinate review content with the faculty teaching the subject (i.e. Anatomy and Dr. Kulesza). One of our Pre-SOMA Co-Directors will double check material has been reviewed with the course director to ensure accuracy. This virtual review will allow MMS students to focus their studies over the weekend for their tests on the following Mondays and access to review materials used. These reviews will be virtual and held through through zoom. MMS students will be alerted through email and their Facebook group. This event will be completely virtual, and will follow all social distancing because of the virtual nature of the event, with no in-person assembly required.

This will include proper format and delivery of patient case presentations written and orally. He will also be speaking on interesting/relevant pathology he has come across during his career.
December 12, 2023 at 5:51 PMApprovedErie Otters GameClass of 202612/12/202301/06/2024As a class board, we want to sponsor tickets to an Erie Otters game on Saturday, 1/6/2024, in efforts to boost class morale and provide a community bonding experience for the Class of 2026’s last semester together! We are offering free tickets to the entire class, limiting ticket availability to 100 in efforts to control attendance. We would purchase as a group to keep everything seated together. Dr. Kulesza is going to chaperone the event for us. We think this would be a wonderful opportunity for the class to spend some quality time together and be a nice event to start our last semester.
December 5, 2023 at 1:14 PMApprovedLearn to suture with Dr. RisaviACOS-MSS12/05/202301/05/2024ACOS MSS will be hosting a lecture on suturing with demonstrations following the lecture and supervised hands-on suturing opportunities. This event will be put on by our advisor, Dr. Risavi, and will be hosted at the Kearsarge Fire Department. Any material needed for demonstrations or hands on will be supplied by ACOS MSS. The educational purpose of this event is to expose members of ACOS to the different types of suturing techniques. After speaking with upperclassman, they have expressed that it is extremely important to understand how to suture during surgical rotations. This event aims to helps students of any year to ask questions about suturing and learn the importance of different types of stiches. The following COVID-19 protocol will be strictly followed (if mandated at the time of the event): 1.) We will have a full roster of every individual who has signed up for the event 2.) We will have a check-in for all members and staff who attend 3.) We will sanitize before and after the event to avoid the potential spread of COVID
November 26, 2023 at 5:37 PMApprovedPatagonia FundraiserSOMA11/26/202301/03/2024Due to the success of the Patagonia sale on our campus last year, and after being approached by multiple students asking to have the sale again, LECOM Erie SOMA is looking to duplicate the Patagonia sale that took place last year. The Patagonia's allowed for custom embroidery and will feature the school crest logo (attached). Event will take place remotely (with pick up at the school), in the early Spring Semester. Remote Fundraiser - Pick Up location at school. A Google Form will be sent out as soon upon event approval, and the sale will run through late January. The company we will be using is Threadfellows. Multiple types of Patagonia jackets will be offered, including vests, full zip jackets, and quarter zip jackets. Pick up will be COVID-safe in the LECOM cafeteria as students passing out and picking up orders will follow COVID protocols set forth by administration at the time of pick-up.

She will be sharing her journey throughout medical school, including in the classroom and rotations. There will also be a Q&A portion of the event at the end of the talk. Educational purpose: the educational purpose of this event is to provide a first-hand perspective from a current student who is able to closely relate to the ACOS members. This will be a fantastic opportunity to allow students to engage with upperclassman and ask questions about how she approached her medical school career. COVID mitigation protocols: this meeting will be held on zoom.
October 16, 2023 at 2:02 PMRejectedBingo & Raffle at KFDEmergency Medicine10/16/202311/28/2023We would like to host a Bingo night with food, prizes and fun at Kearsarge Fire Department. EM Club E-board members will run the event, picking and calling out numbers, checking winner’s cards, and passing out prizes. Prizes will include tourniquets, gift cards, duffle bags, penlights, T-shirts, etc. these will all be purchased by EM Club. We will also have a free raffle for all those who attend to enter! We will be raffling off one of our EM Club Waterproof ‘Survival Bags’ which we sold earlier this year as a fundraiser for our club. This kit has the approved LECOM logo on it and contains items such as an emergency blanket, cold pack, whistle, bandages, flashlight, tourniquet, etc. Food and drinks will be provided at the event, provided by EM Club. We will send out a sign-up sheet via an excel spreadsheet and KFD members will also be invited. We will do marketing via social media to promote the event to LECOM students. Our Club advisor Dr. Risavi, is on board with the event and will be in attendance. We will follow the current COVID mitigation plan as set by the school. The event will be Tuesday November 28th from 5:30-8:30pm, this includes set-up and clean up time by the E-Board members.

Dr. Bell will be providing insights into his own residency experience and jump into the intricacies of radiology as a specialty. He will guide us through the various specialty options available within the domain of radiology and shed light on the current job market scenario for budding radiologists. An area of significant importance, and one that Dr. Bell is keen to discuss, is the role of Artificial Intelligence in radiology. The collection bin will be housed in the security office from 11/27 to 12/8. The morning of 12/9, Savannah Sokalski will deliver them to Alex Lockwood at the Second Harvest Food Bank (Contact info: Special Events & Volunteer Coordinator, 1507 Grimm Dr. Erie, PA 16501, 814.459.3663 x 113). The contract agreement for the fundraiser has been attached. The products for donation are: dish soap, cleaning products, paper towels, toilet paper, tissues, laundry soap, shampoo, body wash, canned fruits and veggies, canned soup, canned meats, and canned beans. Students will receive 1 volunteer hour for every 3 items donated, with a maximum of 2 volunteer hours for 6 donated items. However, students can donate as many items as they wish. This event will be open to the whole school, not just Pathology Club members. The Excel spreadsheet used for sign-ups and recording of volunteer hours is attached.

They are looking for new underwear for men and women, T-shirts for men and women, and socks. We will provide a box in the main lobby to collect the goods, and send out an excel sheet for people to sign up to bring items. People may donate up to 4 items for up to 2 service hours total, each item being .5 service hours. We will do a contactless delivery of products to mitigate COVID.

November 16, 2023 at 11:59 AMApprovedGifts for Children's ShelterLECOM Med Erie - SGA11/16/202311/27/2023Purpose: LECOM SGA partnering with Pediatric Club would like to hold a service event for the holiday season. The event would involve students students donating toys from a list provided to us by Lutheran Bethesda Services, a local children's shelter. After completing their donations, students will drop off their gifts in a collection box kept outside of the security office, similar to other donation drives. Collection will begin on November 27 and end on December 13th. Each gift donation will count for 0.5 hours with a maximum of 3 hours (6 donations). Hours will count towards SSP and LECOM hours. Approval is still pending from Touch Point. After the collection date, the gifts will be delivered to Bethesda Lutheran Services. Please see below a PDF of the flyer for the event.
October 16, 2023 at 12:50 PMApprovedDonation Drive for Community of Caring & Guest Speaker Maureen DunnEmergency Medicine10/16/202311/17/2023We would like to give our members the opportunity to participate in a donation drive to benefit the organization Community of Caring. Community of Caring provides support to community members experiencing homelessness. They need items such as clothing, soap, toothbrushes, sanitary napkins, etc. We will run a donation drive that allows members to donate to this critical organization and support the community. The drive involves students signing up on an excel spreadsheet for the items they would like to donate from November 17th-24th. We would then provide a bin for the students to drop off their donations from November 27th – December 1st. The donation bin will be left near the security office, and emptied as it fills to ensure enough space for donations to be left in the bin. For participating in the drive we will offer 1 service hour for every 2 items a student donates, with each student able to earn a maximum of 2 service hours. Students will be dropping off donations to the bin located in the LECOM building and therefore adhere to LECOM COVID mitigation policies. All correspondence for the event will be done through email and E-Board members will drop off the items to the ‘Community of Caring’ organization afterwards. The Director of the Community of Caring organization, Maureen Dunn, would also like to speak to students over zoom on Thursday November 30th from 6-7pm about Community of Caring and how the donations will be used. This will give students insight into the local non-profit in case they would like to volunteer for them again in the future. Our Club advisor, Dr. Risavi, approves of the event.
