This is a great opportunity for LECOM students to explore a popular drink from a different culture while also helping APAMSA to raise funds for future events. This is also a great opportunity to promote an Asian-run business in the area. Fundraising is also a great way to keep membership costs at $0 and encourage students to join and support APAMSA. LECOM students will be able to order and customize their drinks as they’d like at the shop. Students must order in person at the cashier and show the APAMSA flyer to the cashier to show that their purchase is supporting the APAMSA fundraiser. As per the agreement between APAMSA and the Tsaocaa management, 20-25% of the entire order (including food and drink), will go towards APAMSA. The event date would occur October 21st from 5 PM - 10 PM. This date was selected to allow MS2s to relax after their Cardiovascular exam and for MS1s to relax after their Anatomy exams.July 31, 2024 at 12:38 PMApprovedZooBooPediatrics Club07/31/202410/17/2024LECOM students will have the opportunity to be an assistant volunteer coordinator, stand in front of the entrance gates to direct visitors with tickets, sell buttons to visitors, be a train assistant, be a carousel assistant, dress up as the Erie Zoo Troll, be a booth worker to hand out candy to children, dress up in an animal costume to dance in front of the DJ booth, be a miscellaneous fill-in worker, or be on call during any of the Erie Zoo Boo (trick-or-treating in the Erie Zoo) dates from 5:15-9:15 pm between Thursday October 17th - Wednesday October 30th (including every day between these dates). Pauly Likens was a 14 year old transgender girl who was brutally murdered this summer about an hour away from Erie in Sharon, PA. This was the 19th violent killing of a transgender person, and the fourth killing of a transgender teenager, since the beginning of 2024. In her memory and to support future LGBT youth, Allies Club will be selling pins during the entire month of October to raise money for The Trevor Project. The Trevor Project is a nonprofit organization that does important advocacy work by supporting transgender youth, campaigning to end conversion therapy, and providing resources for LGBT people. Among the many resources they provide, The Trevor Project is also known for being the leading suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ+ young people. There will be three pin options for students to choose from. The first is a pin with a rainbow that states "you are safe with me", the second is a heart shaped pin with the progress pride flag on it, and the third is a transgender pride flag that states “protect trans youth”. The pins will be sold for $25 each. The orders will be placed on a google form with money sent via venmo or cash and then Allies club will order the pins and hand them out to students at the end of the fundraiser. Allies Club will reach out to Pauly Likens’ family to obtain permission to make a donation in her honor. If they do not respond or do not allow permission, Allies Club will simply make the donation in memory of the lives of LGBT people who have been lost to anti-LGBT hate. Dr. Hendryx has agreed to be in attendance for all workshops, and we have gained the support of Dr. Falk and other faculty to attend and contribute to these integrative medicine workshops as well. Our first workshop we hope to host is on September 23rd with Dr. Stephanie Esper where she plans to discuss healing with the elements and explaining the practice of using the five elements to diagnose and heal patients. Our goal is to expose our members to more methods of healing that branch from the traditional approach and more into the integrative field. This allows our members to become more well-rounded through the knowledge of different holistic practices.September 9, 2024 at 12:34 PMApprovedSOMA Integrative Medicine WorkshopsSOMA09/09/202409/23/2024SOMA is looking to host integrative medicine workshops open to all SOMA members throughout the semester on the third Monday of every month from 7:00pm to 8:00pm. The fundraiser walk will be located at Perry Square on Saturday September 21, 2024. Volunteers will help with set-up, passing out refreshments, help with advocacy efforts, promise garden flowers, and cheer along walk participants.
