Did you know that unhoused folks suffer from serious mental illness and/or substance use disorders at a rate that is three times higher than the general population? Did you also know there is an organization in Erie who’s mission it is to help unhoused or housing-challenged people get back on their feet? The Mental Health Association (MHA) of Northwest Pennsylvania is looking for clothing donations that can help as many people as possible endure the coming winter months. Anything from socks, underwear, t-shirts and any/all winter gear: layers, hats, gloves, jackets, etc. will be accepted – larger sizes are appreciated. Just remember, if you wouldn’t wear it (due to condition), don’t share it. From the Psychiatrists office to the ER this is a population of people we will invariably treat as future practitioners. Here is an opportunity to practice compassion while making a huge difference in the lives of people that have so little. As per SGA guidelines, each donated item will be rewarded with 0.5 hrs of volunteer time, up to a maximum of 2.0 hours. Any questions, please contact the NeuroPsych Club at: NeuroPsychLECOM@gmail.com
