Each third week of the month, a nomination form will be available for students in the Class of 2028 to submit names of students in the MS2 class. The nomination form will be linked below and includes the nominee’s name and a small explanation for why they would like to nominate the student. At the end of the week, SGA, Class Board, and Class Representatives will view the submissions and determine one student who will be the Student Doctor of the Month based on their dedication to LECOM, hard work in the classroom, willingness to help other students, and other criteria. In the fourth week of every month, an email will be sent to the nominated student to notify them that they have been nominated as the Class of 2028 Student of the Month. They will be given a nominee form to fill out, which will include fun facts about the student that they are willing to share. All questions on the form are optional, and the nominee will only be required to answer questions they are comfortable with. The Student Doctor of the Month award will be open to a student from a different pathway each month (ex. An LDP student in August, PBL in September, DSP in October, etc.) so students are able to learn about their classmates in different pathways. This will be disclosed in the nomination form each month, and only students who are from the designated pathway for the month will be able to be nominated. Once the nominee fills out the nomination form, an email will be sent to the Class of 2028 including an infographic of the student that was chosen and the fun facts/answers to the questions they filled out in the form. This fundraiser will be open to the college of medicine and podiatry. It will be open for 2 weeks. A google forms will be sent out to allow people to put their orders in. The dispersion of the caps will be done at a later date. Surgery club will receive 30% of the funds.
July 30, 2025 at 11:26 AMRejectedMS1 Anatomy Mock Practical Exam 1ACOS-MSS07/30/202508/23/2025ACOS will be working alongside Dr. Kulesza in setting up a mock practical, with both a written and oral component for all MS1s to help prepare for their first exam. Dr. Kulesza will be present throughout the day and will help to set up. We are opening up assistance in preparation for the mock exam to SPM and MS2s so that students can gain volunteer hours for their time. I will work with the SGA webmaster to ensure volunteer hours are approved. The written component will take place in the Cadaver lab while the oral will be held in the study rooms. We will also be having a PBL mock practical at the same time happening in Lecture Hall C. Study room 5 and LHC will both need to be reserved. The educational purpose of this event is to prepare MS1's for their first anatomy practical. It will be performed exactly as the real practical to allow students to gauge their level of understanding of the material.
July 27, 2025 at 1:51 AMExpiredHuntington's Disease Society of America TeamHope Walk/5K RunNeuropsych Club07/27/202509/27/2025Beth Gustafson, Assistant Professor of the Physical Therapy Program at Gannon University and Huntington's Disease Society of America (HDSA) TeamHope walk co-coordinator, recently inquired if LECOM’s NeuroPsych Club could provide volunteer support for the yearly HDSA Team Hope Walk & 5K Run fundraiser event. I believe this event offers a valuable opportunity for our club members to come together in support of the greater Erie community. It also serves to raise awareness and educate the public about Huntington’s disease, a complex neurodegenerative condition that we’ve heavily focused upon in our neuroanatomy courses. Through what we’ve learned, we’ve deepened our understanding of the challenges faced not only by patients, but by their families as well. Through this event, we hope to extend our support to those in the Erie community and show that they’re not alone in their efforts. The fundraiser walk will take place on Saturday September 27, 2025 and will be located at Presque Isle State Park, Beach 1. Volunteers will help with set-up, basket raffles, registration, advocacy efforts, cheering on walk/run participants, and clean up. The volunteering period will span from 6:30AM to 12PM, with each volunteer working a minimum of 2 hour shifts.
July 27, 2025 at 1:14 AMExpiredNAMIWalks Fundraiser EventNeuropsych Club07/27/202509/14/2025Abigale Shick, Events and Fundraising Coordinator at NAMI of Erie County, recently inquired if LECOM’s NeuroPsych Club could provide some volunteer support for the yearly NAMIWalks fundraiser event, in addition to having students participating in the walk themselves. I believe NAMIWalks carries a powerful message, inspiring and advocating "Mental Health for All,” and our club at LECOM envisions a future where all physicians stand together to promote and prioritize mental health as an essential part of every patient's healthcare journey. The fundraiser walk will take place on Sunday, September 14th, 2025, and will be located at Penn State Behrend - Junker Center Parking Lot 5285 Station Rd, Erie, PA 16510. Volunteers will help with passing out refreshments and by being walk guides for the participants. The volunteering period will span from 7:00am - 11am. For those who want to participate in the walk alone, registration opens at 8AM.
July 27, 2025 at 12:08 AMExpiredErie Walk to End Alzheimer'sNeuropsych Club07/27/202509/20/2025Sara Giammarise, the Senior Director of Development of the Greater PA chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, recently inquired if LECOM’s NeuroPsych Club could provide volunteer support for the yearly Erie Walk to End Alzheimer's fundraiser event. I believe that this event presents as a meaningful opportunity for our club members to gather and support the greater Erie community. It also helps raise awareness and educate the public on Alzheimer’s, a pertinent disease that we will for sure be encountering in both our didactic and clinical education. The fundraiser walk will take place on Saturday, September 20, 2025 and will be located at Perry Square, Erie, PA. Volunteers will help with set-up, passing out refreshments, help with advocacy efforts, and cheer along walk participants. The volunteering period will span from 7:00am - 11am. Participating volunteers will also receive a free t-shirt.

We will be making 35 of these shirts in a light blue color. Additionally, if anyone would like to purchase a shirt, we will be ordering shirts to sell to students with a similar design but in a darker blue shade for $20.00 each. All shirts will have the words, 'SAAO Erie' on the front with an approved LECOM shield, and have an anatomical question mark on the back. The darker blue shirts that will be for sale for all students will additionally have "OMT... I use it, D.O. you?" on the back. The attached designs will be ordered, however the shirt colors will be light blue (for forum writers) and darker blue (for purchase). We will store the shirts and students can purchase them at any time during throughout the semester during forums or if they contact SAAO E-board. Funds raised from the T-shirts will be used for future events and convocation costs.

We will purchase about 300 badge reels for around $54.00. Additionally, we will order custom circular stickers that will fit on the badge reels that will have the American Academy of Osteopathy Ram of Reason in the center. We will purchase 300 stickers for $70.00.
July 9, 2025 at 12:59 PMCompleteBarber Beast on the BaySports Medicine Club07/09/202509/06/2025In Conjunction with the orthopedics club we will be volunteering at the barber beast on the bay 10 mile/1mile obstacle course. Club members will have the choice to run the obstacle course as a sponsor of the event, run as a LECOM team, or volunteer as an obstacle monitor to provide assistance to the participants. The 1 mile adapted course is for individuals with physical/intellectual disabilities and the 10 mile is open for the general public. The website says volunteers will help with the 10 mile general event. This event will help support a great cause of raising funds to educated those with disabilities at the barber center and get students involved in a sports medicine related event.

When shown the attached flyer at checkout, 15% of the proceeds from the purchase will be donated to SAAO. The money raised will be used towards special events and convocation expenses.

July 1, 2025 at 6:33 PMApprovedAHN Saint Vincent Cancer Center Patient BagsOncology Club07/01/202508/12/2025For this event, we will be asking students to donate new and unused items that chemotherapy patients would fine useful whenever they are attending their appointments. This includes a variety of items such as lotion, chapstick, small snacks, socks, tissues, puzzle books, etc. If a student brings in 2 of these items, they will receive 1 hour of service. Students will sign up to record the donated items on a shared spreadsheet. We will place a donation basket at the entrance for students to drop off their items. Once these items are collected, they will be placed into gift bags and donated to the AHN Saint Vincent Cancer Center in Erie so they can be distributed to patients by the staff. We have contacted the Cancer Center and they are willing to accept our donations.

The company we will be using is Threadfellows, we have already established a relationship and have the site ready for use in the fall pending approval. Multiple types of Columbia jackets will be offered, including vests, full zip jackets, and quarter zip jackets. The Patagonia's will allow for custom embroidery and will feature the school crest logo (attached). The event will take place remotely (with pick up at the school), in the early Spring Semester. A Google Form will be sent out upon event approval, and the sale will run through early February. The company we will be using is Threadfellows, we have already established a relationship and have the site ready for use pending approval. Multiple types of Patagonia jackets will be offered, including vests, full zip jackets, and quarter zip jackets. Pick up will be in the LECOM cafeteria.
June 6, 2025 at 1:48 PMApprovedSAAO Back to School DriveSAAO06/06/202508/04/2025SAAO would like to host a back to school drive to gather school supplies to donate from August 4th to August 13th. We will be donating to the United Way of Erie County Community Schools, who will then distribute the supplies to students in need within the schools of Erie county. Students could donate an item for 30 minutes of volunteer time, with a maximum of 2 hours worth of volunteer hours. Additionally, students could make cash donations of any amount, which would be collected by SAAO and used to purchase supplies, for a maximum of 30 minutes of volunteer time. SAAO will send out a spreadsheet where students can sign up to bring items, as well as a list with items requested by the United Way of Erie. We will have students drop off the supplies on the front tables as you enter the LECOM building in a bag with their name on it. SAAO would then collect these items at the end of each day, as well as purchase more with the money donated, then at the end of the week take the supplies to the donation center.
June 5, 2025 at 8:13 PMApprovedFall Doughnut and Apple Cider SaleSAAO06/05/202510/09/2025As a fall fundraiser, SAAO would like to sell fresh apple cider and doughnuts in the Vora Lounge during lunch (11:30-1) on October 9th. Dr. Cukierski will purchase the doughnuts from Mayer Bros in the morning, and members of SAAO will wear hairnets and gloves when distributing them and doughnuts will be placed on plates. We will sell a doughnut and cup of cider for $5.00 for both, or $2.50 for either alone.

This event aims to help future physicians achieve their goal of applying to medical school. A donation box will be set up in the LECOM Lobby on August 12-16 
June 4, 2025 at 11:08 AMCompleteNDMA Bone Marrow Cheek Swab at LECOM Club FairSSP06/04/202508/09/2025This event request is in regards to hosting a table at the 2025 Involvement Fair that will allow students to get their cheek swabbed in order to join the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) registry. NMDP is an organization that helps people who desperately need stem cell transplants who are unable to find a donor with an HLA match. There is only a 0.001% of a patient finding an HLA match of all six HLA genes from an unrelated donor. If by chance a student is someone’s match, they always have the choice to decline donating. However, donating stem cells is described to be very similar to donating plasma, and through the process students could potentially save someone’s life. The National Marrow Donor Program is willing to provide all necessary cheek-swabbing supplies for this event.

This will be held at 5 PM on the first Wednesday of every month, beginning 8/6. This clinic provides students the opportunity to have patient care interactions and practice their OMM skills while also serving the Erie community. This clinic will occur under the supervision of LECOM faculty and adhere to applicable state, federal, and local regulations.
