White coats will be collected in the cafeteria on September 19 and September 23 from 12-1pm for the Class of 2025, and September 26 and September 30 from 12-1pm for the Class of 2026. Coats will be returned to students ~3 weeks after collection dates. Existing LECOM COVID guidelines will be followed. Masks will be enforced in the cafeteria during drop off/pick up of white coats.

He will be speaking about the LECOM Family Medicine Residency program on Monday, September 12th at 5:30PM. He will be sharing general information on the program including curriculum, schedule, and the community. The info session will be followed by a Q&A session. Anyone is welcome to come prepared with questions about the residency program, questions about applications, or just come ready to listen. Pizza will also be served to help promote SAACOFP to students and recruit new members. The pizza will be served in the cafeteria. We will be purchasing pizza from Maria's Pizza and will submit a reimbursement form. For safe distribution, we will make sure that the pizza is precut. Additionally, we will have one person distributing the slices while wearing cloves and a mask. All beverages will be individually packaged.

Phone number 814-452-3935) Since 1980, 8,839 newcomers have been resettled in the Erie area with assistance from USCRI. Refugees resettled in Erie come primarily from Bhutan, Eritrea, Somalia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Syria, Iraq, Ukraine and Russia. Newly arrived refugees receive a comprehensive set of services including housing placement, cultural orientation, school enrollment, coordination of initial health appointments, and employment preparation and placement. I have reached out to Gretchen Fairly, Development Associate at USCRI and she said she would love to receive new or gently used donations to ensure that each refugee is provided with basic items that are essential to daily life. Some essential items she listed were first aid kits, thermometers, masks, diapers, and baby products. I have attached a full list of needed items to this form. I would love to have a donation box outside the security office where students could drop off essential items! Every item donated will count for 0.5 volunteer hours and students can receive up to a maximum of 3 volunteer hours. I would like to have the drive from September 19th - 28th to ensure enough time for students to get the essential items. The Class of 2025 student council board will collect all donated items and deliver them to the USCRI at a later date.
August 9, 2022 at 5:53 PMRejectedVolunteering at the Community Blood BankClass of 202508/09/202209/13/2022The Community Blood Bank in Erie is starting a new volunteer program in hopes of generating more follow up donations with the help their volunteers. After donating blood, the donors are sent to the refreshment area of the center or drive so that they can relax for 10 minutes and have a snack. Once the donor is done with their snacks, there are no other interactions with staff, and they leave. There is a very small chance they come back and donate again in 56 days which is the reason why the volunteer program was started. The community blood bank felt that the final step of the donation process was lacking and thought having volunteers greet donors in the refreshment area could greatly impact the donation process. The role of the volunteer will be to thank the donor for their donation, get feedback from the donor, and most important, ask the donor to schedule a follow up donation. A volunteer at the last part of the donation could make a huge difference in getting donors to return for another donation. Asking for a follow-up donation is the most crucial item, because more consistent donors mean a better blood supply. Students will be able to sign up for shifts well in advance and will receive volunteer hours for their participation. Every hour spent volunteering will count towards one volunteer hour. Depending on the blood bank's COVID Mask Rule, masks may be required for anyone volunteering on site.

Outside meetings will still occur for the club but these weekly gatherings are strictly service oriented and volunteer based.

Dr. Kulesza just informed us that we will need to request lecture hall C so that PBL students can partake in a practice exam as well. ACOS will be working alongside Dr. Kulesza in setting up a mock practical, with both a written and oral component for all MS1s to help prepare for their first exam. We are opening up assistance in preparation for the mock exam to SSP so that MS2s can gain volunteer hours for their time. The written component will take place in the Cadaver lab while the oral will be held in the cafeteria. The following COVID-19 protocol will be strictly followed (if mandated at the time of the event): 1.) We will have a full roster of every individual who has signed up for the clinic--both volunteers and attendees 2.) We will have a check-in for all members and staff who attend the mock practical 3.) We will require masks, and uphold social distancing of at least 6 feet 4.) We will sanitize before and after the exam to avoid the potential spread of COVID 5.) We will create a screening form for all members that sign up and require that they disclose any signs and symptoms, travel history, and close contact history prior to attending 7.) We will keep attendees in smaller groups by generating different start times for their exam

Currently, only 25% of radiologists are women. During their talk, they will introduce students to the potential career paths in radiology, speak about lifestyle, and what it is like to be a female in the field. The presentation will take place over zoom, and is anticipated to be about 1.5 hours.

Introduction of Eboard, background about the chapter, review chapter goals, review requirements, review statistics, go over common events that our club participates in, list the names of the new members and congratulate them on their induction, group photo.

This will allow us to have approval in time to have a forum before the first practical on August 10th. We will meet every other Tuesday, but having all Tuesdays reserved will let us make changes in the our schedule depending on the practical schedule. Students will have the opportunity to practice and ask any questions they may have before the practicals that will be occurring the following day, Wednesdays, in class lab. Both will take place in the OPP lab at the LECOM-ERIE main building. The MS1 forum will take place from 5:30-6:30pm. Break will be from 6:30-7:00pm. The MS2 forum will follow from 7:00-8:00 pm. Times are subject to change, mainly the exlusion of a break between forums. All in attendance are required to be SAAO members and have their local and national dues paid.

As requested by Dr. Ferretti, we will be having a mandatory training for anyone who was selected as a Big for SOMA's Big/Little program. We will have Dr. Kevin Klauer give a talk for the first hour (a separate event request has been submitted for this!), and then we will take the second hour (this event request) to cover the overview of the Big program. We will be instructing Bigs on what to do and what not to do, what advice to share with their littles, and what topics to avoid as they are out of our scope as Bigs. The agenda for the meeting will be developed with Dr. Lee, who will be in attendance for the training to ensure we have appropriate faculty oversight. We feel this is an important event to have in person, which is why we have requested reserving Lecture Hall D. We will require all attendees to wear masks, and will practice appropriate social distancing, and follow all other COVID protocols. Attendance will be taken, and a post-event recap will be sent to Dr. Shabloski when the event is complete.

After hearing him talk at SOMA's Summer Leadership Meeting (SLM) in Chicago in July, I have invited Dr. Kevin Klauer, CEO of the AOA, to come speak to our campus on Mentorship in Medicine. Dr. Klauer is a board certified EM Physician who has held many leadership positions with various medical organizations (ACEP, ACOEP, AOA). He has earned numerous awards for his mentorship and leadership, including the 2018 ACOEP Educator of the Year award. Dr. Klauer knows what it is like to be a physician, friend, and mentor, and he shares his experiences so well with students. As part of a panel at SOMA's SLM, Dr. Klauer emphasized the importance of the Mentor-Mentee relationship in medical school as well as while practicing medicine. This talk will be given immediately prior to the Big training session to kick off the Big/Little program for the year. As of now, we are requesting to have this be an in person talk in Lecture Hall D, and will be open to any first or second year student who wants to attend. We will require masks and practice appropriate social distancing. If the COVID climate changes and we need to switch our event to Zoom, we are willing to do so to accommodate the safety of all attendees.

The link will open for purchases on 8Aug and orders will be accepted through 22Aug. Payments are made through the Sportslocker store with a percentage returning to the IM Club. After all orders have been collected, they will be bulk shipped to campus, picked up by an IM Club Exec member, and distributed to purchasers in the cafeteria. Any items not distributed will be maintained by an IM Club Exec member until such a time as it can be successfully handed off. We have made no alterations to the previously approved apparel from last year’s sale. There are other events that are planned for that week that Nevin told me he sent in a request for. The event would start around 530 and end by 7pm. The main goal of this event is to have a fun event where MS1s and MS2s can interact. I already emailed Brian King and he mentioned that the field is available to use as long as it gets approved. As far as Covid protocol, because the entirety of the event is outside there should be no need for any masking or social distancing.

Phone Number: (814) 456-4206) The Community Blood Bank in Erie is starting a new volunteer program in hopes of scheduling more blood donors. Volunteers will be interacting with donors after they have finished donating. They will go over their experiences with them and ask them to schedule a follow up appointment. This is a great experience to interact with the local community and develop strong communication skills as future physicians. Students will be able to sign up in advance for shifts. 2) Mercy Center for Women Erie (1039 East 27th Street, Erie, PA 16504. Phone number (814) 455-4577) The Mercy Center for Women is hosting their second annual Pedal for Mercy Event on September 10th, 2022 from 7am to 3pm. Volunteers are needed for 4 different shifts. Shifts include: 1. Morning event prep/registration: 6:30am-11.30am -Set up for event. Registration help including: check-in, money handling, t-shirt sales and concierge. 2. Route Food and Beverage: 8:30am-2pm -Serve snacks and waters at stop locations for riders. -Replenish and clean up food areas 3. Route Runner: 10am-3pm -Must have valid drivers license and be able to drive the day of event. In team’s of two, they will pick up purchases at specified wineries on route and deliver them to Penn Shore for distribution. Be able to run supplies to rote stops as needed. 4.Penn Shore lunch and afternoon prep: 11:30am-4pm -Serve lunch to participants, work with Route Runners to organize/ distribute win purchases. Tear down even when finished at 4pm. 3) Veterans Affairs Erie Medical Center (135 East 38th Street Erie, PA 16504-1559 Phone number: 814-868-8661) I reached out to Ms. Karen O’Neal, the Chief at the Center for Development and Civic Engagement and she listed out a few volunteer opportunities they currently have. 1. To externally and internally clean patient transport vans. The VA medical center has a fleet of 29 vans and is having a difficult time keeping them clean. 2. The virtual seminar will be led by former ACOS National Liaison, Ashton Amos. We want to hold this as our first event so that it is open to all MS1s before they have to pay their official dues as we believe this topic would benefit everyone. Additionally, we are holding this event virtually to best accommodate a large audience while following COVID protocol.

The event will give incoming MS1 students the opportunity to meet the faculty and MS2. For the MS2, it will provide an opportunity to catch up with peers and faculty. The event will also be an opportunity for students to learn about the different clubs on campus and how to get involved. Each club will have a table and will be required to have board members present to give information about how to get involved and to answer questions regarding their clubs. Invitations: Google form invitations will be sent out to MS1, MS2 and faculty via email. SGA board will also email invitations to faculty. Google form will serve as RSVP. Set Up: SGA Board (Khin Oo, Tyler Dobratz, Abhay Dhillon, Ananya Koka, Anthony DiCecca, Serene Bahi, and William Kim) will be at the softball field by 3:15 pm to set up. SGA board members will facilitate the delivery and pick-up of tables and food. Board members for each club will be present and responsible for setting up their club table and decorating however they would like. The food truck will arrive at 3:30 pm. The rental company's tables, chairs, and games will arrive at 3:30 pm. Both have been given directions and the location of the softball field. The food truck will leave the premises after the event. The rental company will be picking up all rental equipment by 8 pm. The tables for each club will be rented from Crazy Monkey here in Erie. The cost is $7 per table x 25 tables = $175. Funding: SGA funding. We are also requesting garbage bins or a dumpster for any waste from the food to be disposed of if LECOM is able to provide these. Food & Beverages: We would like to support the local Erie businesses and will have Spanglish food truck on site. They will park in the parking lot close to the softball field. They will be there from 3:30 pm – 7:30 pm. We will be giving out meal vouchers that can be used to get food at the truck. SGA will send out an RSVP to students and faculty where they can RSVP to receive Meal Vouchers that can be used at the food truck. The meal voucher will allow guests to have 1 empanada or vegetarian fiesta bowl. Other food that guests purchase will be out of pocket. Vaccinated individuals can attend mask free given that the event is outdoors; unvaccinated will wear a mask and follow social distancing protocol. The LECOM Security officer will be present for the entire time. There will be a sign-in station where all those that attend will sign for contact tracing if needed. We will buy hand sanitizer at SAM club to be present on tables for use. Clean-Up: SGA Board (Khin Oo, Tyler Dobratz, Abhay Dhillon, Ananya Koka, Anthony DiCecca, Serene Bahi, and William Kim) will serve as a clean-up crew to make sure the softball field is thoroughly cleaned, and all garbage is thrown out. We will be there to make sure the rental equipment is picked up and make sure the food truck leaves the premises on time.
