March 25, 2025 at 8:57 PMApprovedSpring Glasses DriveENT_Ophthalmology03/25/202505/12/2025We will be collecting prescription glasses and reading glasses to donate to the Sight Center of Northwest PA. The Sight Center of Northwest PA sorts through the glasses and will decide which ones to keep for people in the community, then they also outsource the rest of the glasses to other organizations such as Lions Club international and others. I am in contact with Pam Masi from the Sight Center. Her email is pamm@sightcenternwpa.org. We will empty the bin at the end of each day to ensure that it does not get full. The intention is also to have students earn service hours for donating (the usual 1 hour for 2 items, maximum of 2 hours able to be earned). After the week of collection, we would deliver all the donated glasses to the Sight Center. Dr. Chris Buzas is the advisor for the club, however, he is not an option under the "advisor information" drop down menu. I have submitted a support request for this.

The Pre-SOMA directors (and potentially other SOMA volunteers) at LECOM would like to host review night Q & A sessions/and or review presentations for the MMS students here at our LECOM campus. Our efforts will be focused on mentoring and guiding these students towards understanding courses and high yield concepts in their own way outside of structured lectures, with the intent to foster an environment that promotes collaborative learning with open feedback responses from medical students who have previously been in the MMS program and are now successful in the MS1 class. We believe this could be a great opportunity for MMS students to learn how they will shape their study habits, and for our directors it will be an opportunity to reinforce our future physician skills of mentorship and educating.
