October 28, 2022 at 12:02 PMRejectedLydia's Love Moments FundraiserWomens Health Club10/28/202211/14/2022The Women's Health Club will hold a Chinese Auction to sell tickets to students so they can enter for a chance to win any of 5 baskets. The baskets will include a finals relaxation basket full of skin care, lotions, and relaxation serums, a Sheetz gas gift-card gas basket, and a finals snack basket. We will sell tickets for these baskets in the LECOM cafeteria from 11am-1pm throughout the week of November 14th-18th. Women's Health Club board members will sell the tickets. We will collect cash as the only form of payment. We will draw winners for each basket on Friday November 18th. We will sell 1 ticket for 5$, and 3 tickets for 10$. We will offer volunteer hours to students that buy auction tickets. Students can receive a half hour of volunteer time for purchasing 3 tickets (10$). We will donate all the money we make from this action towards Lydia's Love Moments. This is a nonprofit organization founded by Kim Ghirardi that raises money for The RonaldMcDonald House in Pittsburgh, PA and Emily Rose Photography. Kim started this organization when she gave birth to her daughter, Lydia, who suffered from a congenital heart defect and required an extended hospital stay while fighting for her life. While her daughter endured an extended stay at Pittsburgh Children's Hospital, Kim received housing from The RonaldMcDonald House. Emily Rose Photography is a company that provides a photoshoot session of newborn babies that are undergoing treatment at the hospital who may not survive much longer. The Women's Health Club is excited to donate money to Lydia's Love Moments who then donates to these charities. In addition to the Chinese Auction, we will host Kim Ghirardi, the founder of Lydia's Love Moments, on November 14th 2022 on Zoom to invite club members to hear from Kim about how and why she started this organization and why she aspires to continue giving back to the organizations that impacted her life. The Zoom meeting will run from 7:30-8:30. We will send out a zoom link for this event on November 7th. Our advisor, Dr. Speelman, will attend the zoom event.

Why: SOMA wants to create a COVID-safe opportunity for students to get involved in the Erie community. Having this card drive creates an event that allows LECOM students to reach out and be involved with the school and community. As this event has been very successful in the past, and Dr. Silvia Ferretti commented on what a nice event it was last year when we had the cards at Colleen’s desk, we really would like the opportunity to have it again. Here is the request for the drive that was approved last year: Idea: SOMA will be putting together a Holiday Card drive. Why: SOMA wants to create a COVID-safe opportunity for students to get involved in the Erie community. Having this drive creates an event for LECOM students to reach out and be involved with the Erie community. January 18, 2023 at 10:38 AMRejectedAOA's DO Day on Capital HillSOMA01/18/202304/19/2023What: SOMA Members will travel to Washington DC by bus to partake in AOA's 2023 DO Day on Capital Hill. This is a fantastic opportunity for osteopathic medical students to advocate to congress on behalf of the profession, as well as network and meet physicians from their home state. There is a training provided by the AOA prior to the congressional meetings to educate students about the issues that will be discussed in the meetings. This year, it is incredibly important to have a good LECOM representation at DO Day, as two LECOM students will be seated on the National SOMA Board of Trustees. Rebecca Wolff will be serving as the next National SOMA President, and I will be serving as the Region I Trustee. Having LECOM students support the mission of National SOMA by advocating at DO day on the Hill would highlight the importance of student participation, and by having a large student representation we will be showing support for Rebecca in this role. I have attached a tentative memorandum provided by the AOA in the additional documents section of this request. Financial quotes: Andersen Transportation company for a 56-person bus: $4,325 Andersen Transportation company for a 40-person bus: $4,275 Note: a pdf of the Bus Price quotes can be accessed under additional attachments Hotel: DoubleTree by Hilton in Silver Springs 8727 Colesville Rd, Silver Spring, MD 20910 (301) 589-5200 Contact: Joyce Marcan via phone 20 rooms $149 per night +13% tax Bus parking fee at hotel overnight: $50 When: April 19th-20th, 2023 Andersen bus will depart LECOM at 0800 on April 19th. Andersen bus will pick up students from Seton Hill on the way to DC Anticipated arrival in DC: 1800 Andersen bus will depart Washington DC to return to LECOM at 1700 on April 20th. Seton Hill students will be dropped of at Seton Hill's campus on the way back to Erie. How: We are proposing that SOMA provides mass transportation via bus to keep the costs down for students. We also will issue a sign up sheet to organize housing rooms, making sure to keep male and female students in separate rooms. The proposed bus company is Anderson Coach and Travel. The hotel is DoubleTree by Hilton in Silver Springs. There will be a sign up sheet provided to determine those eligible for attending. As per the LECOM policy on conference travel, any student wishing to attend the conference must have a 3.0 GPA, which will be verified by student affairs prior to accepting a student on the trip. Other eligibility will be determined based on class attendance requirements. If there are still students in excess of how many people we are able to transport, priority will be given to current SOMA officers, previous SOMA officers, and SGA officers. Students will be required to fund their own meals while at the conference unless otherwise provided by the AOA. It will be the responsibility of each student to verify their eligibility status with their advisor, as well as academic standing with Student Affairs, prior to attending. Each student will also be responsible for filling out their own excused absence form and submitting it to the appropriate personnel. In addition, it will be the responsibility of each student to catch up on any schoolwork they missed.

July 17, 2023 at 1:45 PMRejectedOncology Club FairOncology Club07/17/202308/05/2023We are working with Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) which is a non-profit organization that raises funds towards pediatric oncology research. We plan to host a Lemonade Stand at the Club Fair, promoting not only our club but ALSF and their volunteer opportunities that are available for the students. Our President, James Nordstrom had been in contact with the SGA president and had gotten approval to put our table outside of the Wellness Center. We will be selling our Lemonade for $2 with all proceeds going directly to ALSF. To prevent spills/excessive trash, we can give the drinks to students that are leaving the Wellness Center rather than entering in. We will have napkins, wipes, garbage bags for cleaning up any spills and having a place for all the trash. The entire team will be present during the Club Fair and will be helping out distributing the drinks.
July 26, 2023 at 10:33 AMRejectedPresque Isle Clean Up SeriesACOS-MSS07/26/202309/30/2023ACOS, SOMA and Sports Medicine have partnered to put together a Presque Isle clean up volunteering event for all MS1 and MS2 students. This event would be through Adopt A Beach which is an organization through Pennsylvania that does monthly beach clean ups. They have specific days and beaches they clean, but for groups that cannot make those dates, they allow them to pick up supplies and assign them a beach. There will be a sign-up sheet and I will pick up the necessary supplies prior to the event (trash bags, gloves etc.). They will also assign us a specific beach (6, 8, 10 or 11) based on their needs at that time. We would like to do two clean up days this semester - September 30th and October 21st from 9am-11am. This event would provide students with an opportunity to give back to their community and help keep our beaches clean. Our counterparts in Elmira recently had a similar event which was a success, and we are hoping to continue to give back here in Erie. These hours will also count towards touch point hours, LECOM hours and SSP hours. Our hope is that we can establish a relationship with Adopt A Beach and continue these events in the spring as well. The educational purpose of this event is to continue to build connections within the community and to give back to Erie. Furthermore, here are the COVID protocols that I ensure are upheld at all ACOS events: 1.) We will have a full roster of every individual who has signed up for the event 2.) We will have a check-in for all members and staff who attend the event 3.) We will sanitize before and after the suturing clinic and mentorship discussion to avoid the potential spread of COVID 4.) We will create a screening form for all members that sign up and require that they disclose any signs and symptoms, travel history, and close contact history prior to attending. 5.) Masks and social distancing will be implemented in accordance with LECOM protocol

December 18, 2023 at 12:47 PMRejectedMMS Review NightsSOMA12/18/202301/12/2024SOMA students will lead review sessions to help guide students on study strategies as MMS students work through the rigor of LECOM curriculum. There was high attendance in the Fall Semester and MMS students have requested it again for the Spring. As MMS students work through the semester, SOMA students who are OMS1s/OMS2s will volunteer their time to host a short, virtual review of the material and high yield topics. SOMA students will coordinate review content with the faculty teaching the subject (i.e. Anatomy and Dr. Kulesza). One of our Pre-SOMA Co-Directors will double check material has been reviewed with the course director to ensure accuracy. This virtual review will allow MMS students to focus their studies over the weekend for their tests on the following Mondays and access to review materials used. These reviews will be virtual and held through through zoom. MMS students will be alerted through email and their Facebook group. This event will be completely virtual, and will follow all social distancing because of the virtual nature of the event, with no in-person assembly required.
