This event is now being held after the previously requested and approved workshop was cancelled due to weather. Dr. Cukierski and Dr. Falk will be leading the workshop and will be present throughout the workshop to provide supervision directly to the students. They will first explain the practice and background of Prolotherapy and will proceed with a demonstration of injecting saline into the knee joints of two cadavers and will allow students the opportunity to have hands-on experience administering the prolotherapy injections to the cadaveric knees. Dr. Kulesza has given approval for use of the cadavers and the lab after reviewing the overview of the workshop. Material disposal will be under the supervision of Dr. Falk and Dr. Cukierski, who will provide sharps disposal bins, and will ensure proper protocol is followed with disposal of all materials used. The room has been reserved by Rebecca Banta. Dr. Stephany Esper will be speaking at the event by describing how individuals are matched with one of the five elements followed by explaining certain dysfunctions they can have within their element and how to treat those. While she explains, Dr. Hendryx has agreed to perform acupuncture on selected students of different elements so students can understand the practice better and receive exposure to the use of acupuncture. Our goal is to expose SOMA members to another method of healing different from traditional medicine with a more integrative, osteopathic focus. Additionally, students could make cash donations of any amount, which would be collected by SAAO and used to purchase supplies, for a maximum of 30 minutes of volunteer time. SAAO will send out a spreadsheet where students can sign up to bring items, as well as a list with items requested by the United Way of Erie. We will have students drop off the supplies on the front tables as you enter the LECOM building in a bag with their name on it.
