She will do activities with the students and discuss techniques for managing emotions during a stressful time. We would like to use part of our budget to offer students a gift card for lunch if they participate in this workshop. This would be to help take the place of the student breakfasts that were previously offered to students but have not been due to the pandemic. We also recognize that this request is not greater than 30 days prior to the event, but we will not need any LECOM spaces to host the event and the speaker has agreed to present on this date so we are hopeful that we can get this event approved and give students this opportunity to work on stress management techniques going forward.December 7, 2021 at 1:20 PMExpiredFundraising for Reading GlassesLecom.ophthalmology12/07/202112/09/2021We are working with the LECOM Senior Living Center to raise money for reading glasses for residents and patients. We would promote the fundraiser using social media, and students, faculty, and other members of the community would be able to donate directly. We are asking you to share the GoFundMe link on any and all social media platforms you have -- if you share the link, we will give you 1 service hour for every social media platform you post on (max of 3). The previous board members, Max and Ashton, and I have developed a good relationship with the surgeon and his wife (a urologist; however, she cannot attend due to her schedule) and he would love to visit Erie to teach our aspiring surgeons. Drs. Marcin and Meredith Jankowski visited campus last Spring and the event was a huge success with the student body. The outline is as follows: October 21st from 6pm-7pm: Forum led by Dr. Jankowski discussing seeking mentorship as a medical student with an open Q/A following. This portion would take place in lecture hall D, and we would ideally like to open the event to the student body as this topic would greatly benefit everyone—not just members of surgery club. October 22nd from 10am-1:30pm: Educational discussion regarding OR etiquette for 30 minutes in Lecture Hall D. Following this, we would hold a two-part skills training session; a FAST ultrasound exam (lecture hall D) and suturing clinic (Microbiology lab) that the students will rotate between. This event is nearly identical to the event held in the spring which was approved by the administration, aside from opening the Friday forum up to the general student body and focusing on suturing instead of central line placement. I have attached Dr. Jankowski's CV to this event request. Furthermore, here are the COVID protocols that I ensure are upheld at all ACOS events: 1.) We will have a full roster of every individual who has signed up for the clinic 2.) We will have a check-in for all members and staff who attend the suturing clinic 3.) We will require masks, and uphold social distancing of at least 6 feet 4.) We will sanitize before and after the suturing clinic and mentorship discussion to avoid the potential spread of COVID 5.) We will create a screening form for all members that sign up and require that they disclose any signs and symptoms, travel history, and close contact history prior to attending The educational purpose of this event is to expose students to the importance of mentorship in medicine and teach critical skills needed for rotations and beyond. Dr. Jankowski is a very well-distinguished Trauma surgeon that can teach many clinical skills—however, he has chosen to focus on the FAST Ultrasound Exam and suturing for this event. He will be bringing an ultrasound device and professional training mannequin to teach us this skill.October 4, 2022 at 9:34 PMExpiredMed-Peds Residency Discussion with Dr. Alexandra MieczkowskiInternal Medicine Club10/04/202210/26/2022Please join the Internal Medicine Club as we host Dr. Alexandra Mieczkowski, the Medicine-Pediatrics Residency Program Director at UPMC on October 26th at 5:30 PM. One aspect of their care is a Wig & Beauty Salon. They have plenty of wonderful wigs, but lack in the 'beauty' side of make-up and skin care patients. We are planning on gathering supplies to help these oncology patients dealing with hair and skin problems. As for the products gathered, I have this baseline from the clinic: "It seems that the makeup line that would be best is NYX. They are vegan-free and priced fair compared to some of the other brands. For lotions and such, Neutrogena is recommended. Both brands are sold at Ulta. The products we would like to have on hand are face soap/cleaners, face lotion, foundation, powder, blush, eye shadows, eye liners, brow pencils or temp tattoos, lip balms/sticks. Because we have women of all colors, a variety would be great. We don’t expect you to get everything, but any donation of these products would be most helpful as we stock the ‘beauty’ portion of our Wig & Beauty Salon. We are most appreciative of your willingness to help. We would be happy to provide a tax receipt to you if you give us a value on what you’ve donated since we are a non-profit." The drive would run from November 7th to November 14th. Every item donated will count as 0.5 hours for a maximum of 3 hours (as per previous events).November 4, 2022 at 12:47 PMExpiredYogaErie Classes to Raise Money For Lydia's Love MomentsWomens Health Club11/04/202212/03/2022In conjunction with our previous event request, YogaErie has kindly agreed to donate 2 classes towards raising money for our Lydia's Love Moments fundraiser! WHO: YogaErie Instructors and LECOM students WHAT: A 60 minute yoga class; $10/ student. All funds will go to Lydia's Love Moments to raise money for children at Ronald McDonald's House. WHERE: LECOM Wellness Center Gymnasium. All yogies will be positioned 6 feet apart and be instructed to bring their own mat or towel. All students will check in and sign a liability waiver if not a member already prior to class beginning, wearing a mask. Once on the mat and ready to start class 6 feet apart, they will be allowed to remove their mask for the duration of the workout. Once class is over, masks will be put back on promptly. WHEN: Saturday, December 3 at 9:30-10:30am WHY: As DO medical students, we know how important it is to exercise and keep our hearts healthy. While raising money for children in need of healthcare, we thought this would be a great way to get actively involved in our fundraiser while also benefitting our student body. Yoga Erie has graciously offered us a class and we feel it would form a great relationship between YogaErie and LECOM while helping support a beautiful cause. We feel that hosting an event at our own location would be easy and convenient for LECOM students, and a great way to utilize our facilities. If there is an issue with hosting at lecom wellness center, we will look into having the event at YogaErie's studio. Thank you!
