We have a goal of fundraising $950 to put together 24 bags including backpacks, clothes, toiletries, bath supplies, books and toys for children in the foster care system. Since most kids have to leave their homes quickly, most have very few belongings; this gives them a chance to start new with some personal belongings at their new home. We are asking you to share the GoFundMe link on any and all social media platforms you have -- if you share the link, we will give you 1 service hour for every social media platform you post on (max of 3). We will be using the money to order everything off Amazon and Walmart to put together the bags. https://www.gofundme.com/f/erie-foster-bag-drive?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_campaign=p_cf+share-flow-1

She will do activities with the students and discuss techniques for managing emotions during a stressful time. We would like to use part of our budget to offer students a gift card for lunch if they participate in this workshop. This would be to help take the place of the student breakfasts that were previously offered to students but have not been due to the pandemic. We also recognize that this request is not greater than 30 days prior to the event, but we will not need any LECOM spaces to host the event and the speaker has agreed to present on this date so we are hopeful that we can get this event approved and give students this opportunity to work on stress management techniques going forward.

October 25, 2021 at 10:39 PMApprovedSOMA Toiletry DriveSOMA10/25/202111/15/2021Proposed dates: Monday November 15 – Friday November 19 Alternate dates: Monday November 8 – Friday November 12 Idea: SOMA will be putting together a toiletry drive. When communicating with local Erie schools for the school supply drive, admin stated that there was a great need for toiletries and cleaning supplies at the local community pantry for students and their families. This will be a contactless event, and we propose having collection boxes at the entrance to Main Campus. Students will be able to leave toiletry items for collection. Items will be picked up at the end of the drive by myself (Ellie Schommer) or Co-Chair Garrett Kettle. We will advertise this event to the entire Class of 2024 and class of 2025 so they are able to participate. At the conclusion of the drive, I will arrange a date and time to drop off the supplies to an Erie Community Pantry in need. This will be done in a contact-free manner. Why: SOMA wants to create a COVID-safe opportunity for students to get involved in the Erie community. Having this drive creates an event for LECOM students to reach out and be involved with the Erie community.
