He will be presenting to the LECOM internal medicine club to give a presentation about "How to Succeed on Rotations and Residency" while also explaining the transition from the emergency room to internal medicine care. In doing so, students will get a better understanding of how the two fields work together in admitting and treating a patient, providing an efficient standard of patient care. Club members will be able to attend the presentation to learn how to best prepare and stand out during their rotations and get the residency of their choice. Dr. Risavi will also answer any questions that students may have about rotations or the field of Emergency and Internal Medicine.September 16, 2024 at 11:36 AMApprovedStudent Panel - Research Day EventSSP09/16/202411/01/2024Current MS2 students will be giving brief presentations in the vora lounge about research that they have conducted over the last year both in and outside of LECOM. The festival gets its name from the row (avali) of clay lamps (deepa) that Indians light outside their homes to symbolize the inner light that protects from spiritual darkness. This festival is as important to Hindus as the Christmas holiday is to Christians. It is celebrated over 5 days with events ranging from decorating homes, feasting, fireworks, and gifts. In celebration of Diwali, APAMSA is requesting to host a volunteer event in collaboration with the Mentoring Club. At this volunteer event, volunteers from both APAMSA and the Mentoring Club will organize and execute several activities for the children at the Erie Kids Club. The event aims to introduce the children to the rich cultural traditions of Diwali through various engaging activities. The activities for the children will be Henna art where volunteers will apply traditional Henna to the children's hands, Rangoli art where children will be guided by volunteers to decorate the blacktop with chalk to make traditional Rangoli patterns, and paper lantern crafting where volunteers will assist children in making decorative paper lanterns. APAMSA will provide all necessary supplies for this event. APAMSA and Mentoring Club volunteers will be responsible for set up and clean up at the Kids Club. A permission slip will be distributed to the children ahead of time, ensuring that parents are informed and consent to their child's participation in the activities. All participants will undergo a background check beforehand using the following links: https://epatch.pa.gov/home and https://www.compass.state.pa.us/CWIS/Public/Home No child will be left alone with a volunteer.September 3, 2024 at 9:05 PMRejectedSOMA Integrative Medicine WorkshopsSOMA09/03/202409/23/2024SOMA is looking to host integrative medicine workshops open to all SOMA members throughout the semester. This is a great opportunity for LECOM students to explore a popular drink from a different culture while also helping APAMSA to raise funds for future events. This is also a great opportunity to promote an Asian-run business in the area. Fundraising is also a great way to keep membership costs at $0 and encourage students to join and support APAMSA. LECOM students will be able to order and customize their drinks as they’d like at the shop. Students must order in person at the cashier and show the APAMSA flyer to the cashier to show that their purchase is supporting the APAMSA fundraiser. As per the agreement between APAMSA and the Tsaocaa management, 20-25% of the entire order (including food and drink), will go towards APAMSA. The event date would occur October 21st from 5 PM - 10 PM. This date was selected to allow MS2s to relax after their Cardiovascular exam and for MS1s to relax after their Anatomy exams.August 31, 2024 at 11:24 AMApproved*Resubmission - White Coat Collection for Embodiment (pronouns removed from forms)Family Medicine Club08/31/202409/16/2024Collection of white coats from the ceremony (9/14/24) for embroidery, ***will be collaborating with Women's Health & Medical Society***. Pauly Likens was a 14 year old transgender girl who was brutally murdered this summer about an hour away from Erie in Sharon, PA. This was the 19th violent killing of a transgender person, and the fourth killing of a transgender teenager, since the beginning of 2024. In her memory and to support future LGBT youth, Allies Club will be selling pins during the entire month of October to raise money for The Trevor Project. The Trevor Project is a nonprofit organization that does important advocacy work by supporting transgender youth, campaigning to end conversion therapy, and providing resources for LGBT people. Among the many resources they provide, The Trevor Project is also known for being the leading suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ+ young people. There will be three pin options for students to choose from. The first is a pin with a rainbow that states "you are safe with me", the second is a heart shaped pin with the progress pride flag on it, and the third is a transgender pride flag that states “protect trans youth”. The pins will be sold for $25 each. The orders will be placed on a google form with money sent via venmo or cash and then Allies club will order the pins and hand them out to students at the end of the fundraiser. Allies Club will reach out to Pauly Likens’ family to obtain permission to make a donation in her honor. If they do not respond or do not allow permission, Allies Club will simply make the donation in memory of the lives of LGBT people who have been lost to anti-LGBT hate. Our efforts will be focused on mentoring and guiding these students towards understanding anatomy in their own way, with the intent to foster an environment that promotes collaborative learning with open feedback responses from medical students who have already completed anatomy. We believe this could be a great opportunity for MMS students as an opportunity to learn how they will shape their study habits, and for our volunteers it will be an opportunity to reinforce our future physician skills of mentorship and educating.
