Dr. Queen specializes in Emergency Medicine & Internal medicine. He would like to come to talk to EM Club members about navigating emergency medicine and answer any questions students may have. Dr. Queen will present to us about ultrasound techniques frequently used in the Emergency Department, followed by a short interactive activity for students to participate in. It will give our members the chance to interact with a healthcare provider within the community and understand ultrasound as a skill. All equipment for the interactive ultrasound activity will be provided by Dr. Queen. We will also have Dr. Risavi present to teach students about tourniquets and offer practice with obtaining blood pressure. The EM Club and Dr. Risavi will provide the tourniquets and blood pressure cuffs. Students will bring their own stethoscopes. A sign-up sheet will be provided for students to participate, and students will be asked to fill out COVID screening forms to adhere to COVID Regulations. Our Club Advisor, Dr. Risavi, has approved of the event and will be in attendance. This event will be held on Friday October 20th at the Kearsarge Fire Department from 1700-2100.

She is the President of the ACOEP and Director of Osteopathic Medical Education at Crozer Keystone Health System.

Both are alumni of LECOM and are currently resident Anesthesiologists and have agreed to share their insights in what they had to do to get their current residencies. We will also send out a form for LECOM Students to write out questions that we will present on the zoom to the current residents.

Our Guest Speaker is Dr. Robert Bowers, who is a retired surgeon and have been involved with medical missionary trips in Africa and Bangladesh for 40 years. For this Guest Speaker Event, Dr. Bowers will give a PowerPoint presentation via Zoom to share with us his medical experiences overseas. This will be a great opportunity for medical students to gain insight of healthcare outside of the U.S as well as becoming more well-rounded in regards to patient care. In addition, students will have the opportunity to ask Dr. Bowers any questions they may have regarding international healthcare.

July 20, 2024 at 8:59 PMApprovedGuest Speaker Dr Shauna Berry, DO Ophthalmologist, Speaking on Ophthalmology and Medical SpanishSpanish Medical Club07/20/202408/30/2024This event will be a dual event with the both the ENT/Ophthalmology Club and Medical Spanish Club where Dr Shauna Berry, DO Ophthalmologist, will be answering questions pertaining to both clubs. Dr Berry is a pediatric ophthalmologist who graduated from NOVA Southeastern University and practices at Florida Lions Eye Clinic in Naples, Florida. This clinic does outreach work in Immigrant communities in southwest Florida where they see primarily Cuban and Puerto Rican Patients. She will be speaking on the challenges and experiences she's had providing care in Spanish speaking outreach settings and as well as how we can get involved in this line of work as physicians in our future. She will also be discussing her career path in Ophthalmology, her fellowships, and recommendations of how to to best pursue ophthalmology as a medical student. We will open it up for questions at the end. The event will be held over Zoom. I have created the meeting link and attached in the announcement below.

We can accommodate around 15 people per event. Fitness/nutrition is a huge passion of mine which led me to become a NASM certified personal trainer and nutrition coach during undergrad. I hope to instill this passion onto everyone at LECOM and make fitness fun for all.
October 18, 2024 at 11:48 AMApprovedGrady's Decision - NICU Christmas Basket Making Donation/Packing EventPediatrics Club10/18/202412/02/2024Students will be donating highly needed items for Grady's Decision non- profit organization that helps families who are experiencing financial, spiritual, and emotional hardships as they care for their premature babies. We are hoping to collect items to comprise baskets for 20 - 30 families. The items needed/donated include the following supplies: -Rattles -Pacifier / Wubbanub -Gas Gift Card -Food Gift Cards -Books -Burp Cloths -Diapers -Wipes -Children's outfits -Chocolates/gum / candy for Mom -Handwritten Notes -Travel size stuff for an apartment for 30 days / mental health (for mom): Hand sanitizer / lotions / journals 20 - 30 families if possible - Grady's Decision will supplement if we cannot The clubs will purchase bags from our club funds to put all of the donated items into gift bags/baskets for the families. A spreadsheet will be sent out to the student body to 'sign up' for needed items that together will comprise 20-30 Easter baskets. Ex: 20 spaces for people to sign up for pacifiers/Wubbanub, 20 spaces for people to sign up for rattles, etc. This will ensure we have equal materials for each basket being donated. We will set up a collection box in LECOM's front office during the week so students can drop off their donated items. We wanted to hold a box by security in the front lobby for the week of December 2nd-6th. Then later on in the week on December 6th we would like to hold an event at LECOM, where members would put the baskets together for the NICU and for the E-boards of the WHMS and Pediatrics club to deliver them to Grady's Decision non-profit for distribution on December 17th. In addition we were hoping to have a zoom event with Ryan Smith to come and talk about his experience of giving these gifts and what it means to the patients family. I think this would be amazing for the students to see their impact on the patients and where their donations are actually going. This event would take place in the Case Room 117 or Overflow room (or any room with zoom/screen access) on December 6th, during the day and time we are putting together the Christmas Baskets. April 12, 2022 at 1:18 PMRejectedGraduation Photo MosaicClass of 202204/12/202205/29/2022Our class was unable to hold several events that we were initially planning to host due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus with the money we have remaining in our account we would like to to a photo Mosaic at our graduation this May, in which students submit photos and they are placed in a large digital Mosiac in the shape of "Class of 2022." We can subsequently takes photos by this mosaic and we can also distribute it as a gift to each member of our class. We will also be doing random squares of the mosaic that are associated with a prize (gift cards for scrubs).

November 16, 2023 at 11:59 AMApprovedGifts for Children's ShelterLECOM Med Erie - SGA11/16/202311/27/2023Purpose: LECOM SGA partnering with Pediatric Club would like to hold a service event for the holiday season. The event would involve students students donating toys from a list provided to us by Lutheran Bethesda Services, a local children's shelter. After completing their donations, students will drop off their gifts in a collection box kept outside of the security office, similar to other donation drives. Collection will begin on November 27 and end on December 13th. Each gift donation will count for 0.5 hours with a maximum of 3 hours (6 donations). Hours will count towards SSP and LECOM hours. Approval is still pending from Touch Point. After the collection date, the gifts will be delivered to Bethesda Lutheran Services. Please see below a PDF of the flyer for the event.

All supplies needed will be provided by Gift of Life.
