In our collaboration, we would like to ask students for donation items and supplies to give to EUMA's program funds to assist those who are homeless. They require different items for everyday use, welcome home kits, and for the Rainbow Connection Thrift Store. These everyday items include, twin size sheet sets, pillowcases, twin-size comforters & blankets, new bath towels, washcloths, laundry detergent, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, Clorox wipes, pillows, diapers, children's clothing, cleaning products, swifters, and especially toilet paper and large kitchen bags. For the "Welcome Home Kit" for those moving from homeless to a home, we would ask for shower curtains & rings, bath mat/rugs, bath towels, small trash can, mop, bucket, broom, dust pan, tall kitchen trash can, kitchen towels, pot holders, dish rack, drying mat, pots, pans, measuring cups/spoons, colander, cooking utensils, small kitchen rug, coffee maker, toaster, cups, plates, silverware, glass wear, and bowls. For the Rainbow Connection Thrift store we will request dressers, sofa, love seat, microwave, toaster, lamp, TV, and an End table. Donations for the Rainbow Connection Thrift Store will need to be donated directly to EUMA. CMDA will be overseeing the donations from April 23-May 1, 2024 and delivering these items to EUMA on 28 West 9th Street, Erie, PA 16502. We will have a bin in the front lobby where students can place their donations in. We will monitor this through a Google spreadsheet where students can sign up for what they would like to donate. We will also have a packing event on May 1st in room 117 from 5:45-6:45 pm, this is an additional opportunity for students to volunteer.
August 27, 2025 at 7:42 PMCompleteHealing with the Elements - 5 Element AcupunctureSOMA08/27/202510/23/2025SOMA will be hosting a "Healing with the Elements" program where Dr. Stephany will share a view of medicine through the five different elements. She will give a presentation on what the five elements are, how they present clinically, and what it may look like if someone's dominant element becomes dysfunctional. She will also explain the treatment of these dysfunctions through lifestyle modification and acupuncture while also demonstrating some of the acupuncture techniques on a select few students. This program gives SOMA students the opportunity to see a more integrative medicine technique that definitely qualifies as treating the body as a whole - mind, body, and spirit.
August 25, 2025 at 2:43 PMExpiredHands of the Future - Vector Release WorkshopSOMA08/25/202509/19/2025SOMA will be hosting an opportunity for student members to gain the "Hands of the Future" by attending a workshop on Dynamic Strain & Vector Release, a technique created by one of our own - Dr. Hendryx. Dr. Hendryx will start by walking through a brief PowerPoint about the history/background of the theory before teaching the approach to students in three steps. Students will learn how to 1) identify a key lesion, 2) remove a trauma vector, and 3) treat a dynamic strain dysfunction utilizing the vector release technique. This is a great opportunity for students to experience an up and coming, integrative technique while extending their toolbox to help future patients.
September 19, 2025 at 9:58 AMRejectedHalloween Pickleball Tournament FundraiserSpanish Medical Club09/19/202510/31/2025We will be hosting a Halloween Pickleball Tournament Fundraiser on October 31st from 5:30-7:30PM. This is a collaborative event with Pediatrics Club. The event will be held at Around the Post. We will be charging students $8 per person to join the tournament. Anyone not actively participating in the tournament can pay $3 to have pizza. Students are welcome to wear appropriate/non-polarizing costumes to the tournament that do not pose a trip/fall/sight hazard. We will be hosting a costume contest for those who choose to dress up. Participants may enter the costume contest as individuals or pairs. Both the winners of the tournament and the best costume will win a prize! We will have injury support for the event.

Dr. Pauline Phung would like to come to talk to EM club members about Emergency Medicine as a career and answer any questions students may have. Dr. Phung will present to us about the field of Emergency Medicine, followed by a short interactive activity for students to participate in. It will give our members the chance to interact with healthcare providers within the community and understand the skills that residents in these programs are learning. All equipment for the interactive activity will be provided by the St. Elizabeth Boardman Residency program. We anticipate an activity for intubation, bleeding control, splinting, etc. A sign-up sheet will be provided for students to participate, and masks will be worn to adhere to COVID Regulations. Our Club Advisor, Dr. Risavi, has approved of the event and will be in attendance. This event will be held on Friday September 8th at the Kearsarge Fire Department from 1800-2100.

This event, held jointly over Zoom for both clubs, is open to all students interested in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, or Med-Peds who would like to learn more from the perspective of an attending physician.

Dr. Queen specializes in Emergency Medicine & Internal medicine. He would like to come to talk to EM Club members about navigating emergency medicine and answer any questions students may have. Dr. Queen will present to us about ultrasound techniques frequently used in the Emergency Department, followed by a short interactive activity for students to participate in. It will give our members the chance to interact with a healthcare provider within the community and understand ultrasound as a skill. All equipment for the interactive ultrasound activity will be provided by Dr. Queen. We will also have Dr. Risavi present to teach students about tourniquets and offer practice with obtaining blood pressure. The EM Club and Dr. Risavi will provide the tourniquets and blood pressure cuffs. Students will bring their own stethoscopes. A sign-up sheet will be provided for students to participate, and students will be asked to fill out COVID screening forms to adhere to COVID Regulations. Our Club Advisor, Dr. Risavi, has approved of the event and will be in attendance. This event will be held on Friday October 20th at the Kearsarge Fire Department from 1700-2100.

Our Guest Speaker is Dr. Robert Bowers, who is a retired surgeon and have been involved with medical missionary trips in Africa and Bangladesh for 40 years. For this Guest Speaker Event, Dr. Bowers will give a PowerPoint presentation via Zoom to share with us his medical experiences overseas. This will be a great opportunity for medical students to gain insight of healthcare outside of the U.S as well as becoming more well-rounded in regards to patient care. In addition, students will have the opportunity to ask Dr. Bowers any questions they may have regarding international healthcare.

July 20, 2024 at 8:59 PMApprovedGuest Speaker Dr Shauna Berry, DO Ophthalmologist, Speaking on Ophthalmology and Medical SpanishSpanish Medical Club07/20/202408/30/2024This event will be a dual event with the both the ENT/Ophthalmology Club and Medical Spanish Club where Dr Shauna Berry, DO Ophthalmologist, will be answering questions pertaining to both clubs. Dr Berry is a pediatric ophthalmologist who graduated from NOVA Southeastern University and practices at Florida Lions Eye Clinic in Naples, Florida. This clinic does outreach work in Immigrant communities in southwest Florida where they see primarily Cuban and Puerto Rican Patients. She will be speaking on the challenges and experiences she's had providing care in Spanish speaking outreach settings and as well as how we can get involved in this line of work as physicians in our future. She will also be discussing her career path in Ophthalmology, her fellowships, and recommendations of how to to best pursue ophthalmology as a medical student. We will open it up for questions at the end. The event will be held over Zoom. I have created the meeting link and attached in the announcement below.

We can accommodate around 15 people per event. Fitness/nutrition is a huge passion of mine which led me to become a NASM certified personal trainer and nutrition coach during undergrad. I hope to instill this passion onto everyone at LECOM and make fitness fun for all.
