Thus with the money we have remaining in our account we would like to to a photo Mosaic at our graduation this May, in which students submit photos and they are placed in a large digital Mosaic in the shape of "Class of 2022." We can subsequently takes photos by this mosaic and we can also distribute it as a gift to each member of our class. We will also be doing random squares of the mosaic that are associated with a prize (gift cards for scrubs). Our class has a total of $8000 in our account. This event will cost $7000, and then we plan to use the remaining $1000 to buy prizes. Please see the attached PDF for more details.November 1, 2018 at 7:50 AMApprovedHoliday Giving TreesSOMA11/01/201811/01/2018SOMA and The Mentoring Club partner to hold a Community gift drive to provide residents at the Senior Living Center, LECOM Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and local youth supported by the LECOM Mentoring Club with holiday gifts each year. We place tags with the names of residents and children on holiday trees in the LECOM Foyer near security and ask that students and faculty of LECOM-Erie take a tag and purchase a gift according to the person’s indicated desires. The gift is returned by November 30th to Colleen's desk and we then spend a night wrapping the presents. The wrapping night will be held on Thursday December 6th at 5:00 PM. We request that we be allowed to use the Case Room to wrap the gifts.December 16, 2019 at 7:57 AMExpiredHoliday Fundraiser for MS1 family in needClass of 202212/16/201912/17/2019Tyler Williamson is a MS1 here at LECOM Erie. His family owns their own restaurant in Florida, and have been unable to work much (if at all). We wanted to put together a quick fundraiser of selling holiday cookies to give Tyler a little bit of extra money to bring him to his family for the holidays. We request to use a table in the cafeteria this week, Tuesday 12/17 - Friday 12/20 during the lunch hour to sell the cookies.October 25, 2021 at 10:12 PMApprovedHoliday Card Drive for St. Mary's SLCSOMA10/25/202111/29/2021Idea: SOMA will be putting together a Holiday Card drive. This will be a contactless event, and we propose having collection boxes at the entrance to Main Campus. Students will be able to leave the cards for collection. Items will be picked up at the end of the drive by myself (Ellie Schommer) or Co-Chair Garrett Kettle. We will advertise this event to the entire Class of 2024 and class of 2025 so they are able to participate. At the conclusion of the drive, I will arrange a date and time to drop off the supplies to St. Mary’s Senior Living Center. This will be done in a contact-free manner. Why: SOMA wants to create a COVID-safe opportunity for students to get involved in the Erie community. Having this drive creates an event for LECOM students to reach out and be involved with the Erie community. Proposed dates: Monday November 29 – Friday December 3 Alternate dates: Monday December 6 – Friday December 10November 23, 2022 at 9:59 AMRejectedHoliday Card Drive for LECOM's SLCSOMA11/23/202212/05/2022*This is the same event that was submitted originally on November 1st, but was Rejected by Dr. Thomas. We have included the information he requested prior to resubmission.* Proposed dates: Monday December 5th through Friday December 9th Idea: SOMA will be putting together a Christmas Card Drive. Cards will be made by students to bring joy to residents, so these cards will include writing from students. Students will make or fill out cards to be distributed to SLC Residents. This will be a contactless event, and we propose having collection boxes near the security doors. Students will be able to leave their cards for collection. Cards will be picked up at the end of the drive by Paarth Sharma or Co-Chair Smaran Teru. We will advertise this event to the entire Class of 2025 and class of 2026, so they are able to participate. Cards should be dropped off at the security office or at Colleen's desk on the second floor. This will be done in a contact-free manner. As has been done in other clubs, service hours will be provided with 3 cards = 1 hour of service. Cards will be dropped off at the LECOM Living Center - coordinated with Emily Carver - ecarver@lecomslc.org. Why: SOMA wants to create a COVID-safe opportunity for students to get involved in the Erie community. Having this card drive creates an event that allows LECOM students to reach out and be involved with the school and community. As this event has been very successful in the past, and Dr. Silvia Ferretti commented on what a nice event it was last year when we had the cards at Colleen’s desk, we really would like the opportunity to have it again. APAMSA’s wants to spread diversity by celebrating one of the popular and significant holidays of the Hindu community. Holi is a vibrant celebration that involves a lot of dancing, singing, and throwing colored powders. APAMSA is partnering up with the LECOM Mentoring Club to celebrate Holi with the kids at the YMCA. We want to educate the children on what Holi means and to celebrate a joyous and colorful holiday by having them interact with colored powders (paints) that are easily washable and environmentally friendly. Both clubs have gotten approval from YMCA in allowing children to partake in this activity. APAMSA will bring all the materials needed for the event to happen. Both APAMSA and Mentoring Club will be responsible for cleaning the aftermath of the event premises. The event will take place on March 28 at 5:30 – 6:30 PM located at Erie Heights Kids Club. Estimated amount of people attending the event: ~20-30 people All participants will undergo a background check beforehand using the following links: https://epatch.pa.gov/home and https://www.compass.state.pa.us/CWIS/Public/Home No child will be left alone with another participant.February 21, 2023 at 12:32 PMApprovedHoli Cultural FestivalAPAMSA02/21/202303/24/2023Holi, also known as the "Festival of colors" or "Festival of Love," is a Hinduism tradition celebrated across every part of India. The festival is celebrated in March of every year that marks the end of winter and welcomes in the arrival of spring. Holding this event for the student body of Asian Americans at LECOM would be a great way to honor and commemorate the tradition. The event will be available to students, staff, and faculty. We will take precaution/abide by LECOM's COVID protocol by limiting the maximum capacity to 80 people. Using our club funds, we will provide/purchase art supplies to create colorful t-shirts in honor of Holi. This interactive event would be a great way to celebrate the tradition and to spread diversity within LECOM's community.
