March 8, 2022 at 3:40 PMApprovedMaxwell HansenACOS-MSS03/08/202204/03/2022The Surgery Club is planning to host a SIM club skills clinic on Sunday, April 3rd, and Monday April 4th for all 2nd year students to be able to sharpen skills that will be extremely important for their clinical rotations. we plan to have 3 rotating groups that will be using 3 seperate facilities. Lecture hall D (which we checked and has no class that day), Lecture hall C (the 1st years do not have classes that afternoon), and the OPP lab (there are no labs that afternoon). we plan to do a sunday night case study/review night for 2 hours, and then monday from 4 pm to 7 pm we plan to do the skills clinic. the following COVID guidelines will be strictly followed and enforced: 1.) We will have a full roster of every individual who has signed up for the clinic 2.) We will have a check-in for all members and staff who attend the suturing clinic 3.) We will require masks, and uphold social distancing of at least 6 feet 4.) We will sanitize before and after the suturing clinic to avoid the potential spread of COVID 5.) We will create a screening form for all members that sign up and require that they disclose any signs and symptoms, travel history, and close contact history prior to attending 6.) Unvaccinated individuals will be allowed to attend, but they will be placed at a separate table/section in the lecture hall, again maintaining at least 6 feet for proper social distancing.

The EM Club advisor, Dr. Risavi, will be giving this training to students. We will have a sign up sheet and cap the limited number of participants at 25 to adhere to the capacity of Kearsarge and give everyone the opportunity to practice. This event will take place on Friday August 30th at Kearsarge Fire Hall.

She will do activities with the students and discuss techniques for managing emotions during a stressful time. We would like to use part of our budget to offer students a gift card for lunch if they participate in this workshop. This would be to help take the place of the student breakfasts that were previously offered to students but have not been due to the pandemic. We also recognize that this request is not greater than 30 days prior to the event, but we will not need any LECOM spaces to host the event and the speaker has agreed to present on this date so we are hopeful that we can get this event approved and give students this opportunity to work on stress management techniques going forward.
February 16, 2021 at 2:26 PMApprovedMackenzie's MissionSports Medicine Club02/16/202103/01/2021March 1st, 6:30 PM-7:30 PM The ABS (The Amyloidosis Speakers Bureau) is an initiative focused on educating the next generation of doctors during medical school about this disease through presentations from amyloidosis patients and materials by expert medical advisors. Students will get to hear the raw and unedited story of Elizabeth, one of the patient speakers from the Amyloidosis Speakers Bureau, who will share their personal journey with amyloidosis -- from symptoms, through diagnosis, treatment, and life today battling a rare and incurable disease. This is a unique charity, because it focuses on educating medical students through a real-life patient encounter. The entirely virtual event will be hosted through ZOOM and will last roughly one hour. Mackenzie’s Mission has offered for us to use their ZOOM platform where they can hold a maximum of 500 students. A brief video about Amyloidosis is encouraged for students to watch before the event occurs. Timeline of events: Start time 6:30 PM Student lead introduction of Mackenzie’s Mission and Guest Speaker, Elizabeth (5 minutes) Speaker presentation (30 minutes) Live Q/A session (20 minutes) Closing and Thank you (5 minutes) The event is free of charge to students, and there was no fee to have the event brought to LECOM. Mackenzie’s Mission will send out a survey at the end of the presentation for students to take. The Amyloidosis Speakers Bureau will send $5 Amazon eCards to the first 20 students who complete the Feedback Form. LECOM will be the first Osteopathic school that Mackenzie’s Mission will have the opportunity to spread awareness to. They are very excited!
July 5, 2023 at 9:40 AMApprovedM1 Anatomy Review NightsSOMA07/05/202308/15/2023As MS1 students take Anatomy before moving into Core during first semester, SOMA students who are MS2s will provide a short review of the material and high yield topics and the opportunity to ask questions for the MS1 students to focus their studies over the weekend for their tests on the following Mondays. All review material will be made in conjunction with the respective faculty teaching the subject. These reviews will be virtual and held through either zoom or google meet. MS1 students will be alerted through email of the upcoming review nights.
October 28, 2022 at 12:02 PMRejectedLydia's Love Moments FundraiserWomens Health Club10/28/202211/14/2022The Women's Health Club will hold a Chinese Auction to sell tickets to students so they can enter for a chance to win any of 5 baskets. The baskets will include a finals relaxation basket full of skin care, lotions, and relaxation serums, a Sheetz gas gift-card gas basket, and a finals snack basket. We will sell tickets for these baskets in the LECOM cafeteria from 11am-1pm throughout the week of November 14th-18th. Women's Health Club board members will sell the tickets. We will collect cash as the only form of payment. We will draw winners for each basket on Friday November 18th. We will sell 1 ticket for 5$, and 3 tickets for 10$. We will offer volunteer hours to students that buy auction tickets. Students can receive a half hour of volunteer time for purchasing 3 tickets (10$). We will donate all the money we make from this action towards Lydia's Love Moments. This is a nonprofit organization founded by Kim Ghirardi that raises money for The RonaldMcDonald House in Pittsburgh, PA and Emily Rose Photography. Kim started this organization when she gave birth to her daughter, Lydia, who suffered from a congenital heart defect and required an extended hospital stay while fighting for her life. While her daughter endured an extended stay at Pittsburgh Children's Hospital, Kim received housing from The RonaldMcDonald House. Emily Rose Photography is a company that provides a photoshoot session of newborn babies that are undergoing treatment at the hospital who may not survive much longer. The Women's Health Club is excited to donate money to Lydia's Love Moments who then donates to these charities. In addition to the Chinese Auction, we will host Kim Ghirardi, the founder of Lydia's Love Moments, on November 14th 2022 on Zoom to invite club members to hear from Kim about how and why she started this organization and why she aspires to continue giving back to the organizations that impacted her life. The Zoom meeting will run from 7:30-8:30. We will send out a zoom link for this event on November 7th. Our advisor, Dr. Speelman, will attend the zoom event.

November 4, 2020 at 9:39 PMApprovedLip Sync Battle: Virtual EditionOncology Club11/04/202001/09/2021Lip Sync Battle: Virtual Edition is a fundraiser where teams of students and faculty from LECOM along with their family or roommates compete by submitting videos of themselves performing a lip sync. We will encourage social distancing, mask wearing, and only making the videos with people they are living with. We will compile the videos for people to watch online/remotely. Viewers will then donate money designated for certain performers, and each donation will count as a vote. The team with the largest total donation wins! All proceeds from donations will go to Children's Miracle Network at St. Vincent Hospital with Allegheny Health Network of Erie, PA. The window for viewing and donating will be from Jan 9 to 23, 2021.

The event would involve students writing and submitting cards/notes to be sent to Veterans on their own time. After completing their letters, students will drop off the cards in a collection box kept outside of the security office, similar to other donation drives. Collection will begin on October 31st and end on November 10th. Each card donation will count for 0.5 hours with a maximum of 3 hours (6 cards). Hours will count towards SSP and LECOM hours. Approval is still pending from Touch Point. After the collection date, the letters will be sent to the address in the attached PDF below. Please see below a PDF of the flyer for the event.

The attendees of the event will be club members of the Erie LECOM SAOAO chapter. Members will have to RSVP prior to attendance. The location will be the same Millcreek Hospital education meeting room where the orthopedic residents hold their weekly education meetings (Room 202). The content of the lecture will be basic plating technique/considerations as well as application and purpose of Ex-Fix. The orthopedic club will supply food for attendees in the form of Panera sandwiches.
