October 2, 2025 at 9:08 AMApprovedPediatric Club- Bone Marrow DrivePediatrics Club10/02/202510/27/2025We are collaborating with the Oncology Club to participate in the "Be the Match" Bone Marrow Drive! This is an incredible opportunity for students to give back to the community through a life-saving cause. Educational Purpose: This drive is not only a way to help patients in need of bone marrow transplants, but also a volunteer opportunity for our members to engage in healthcare advocacy and community service. We’ve ordered 75 cheek swab kits from the official Be the Match organization. Participants will provide a DNA sample by swabbing the inside of their cheek and placing the swab in a sterile tube provided in the kit. The process is quick, painless, and can potentially save a life. One member from each club will be stationed at our sign-up table to answer questions and assist participants with the swabbing process. We are planing to host the event every day at lunch from Monday October 27 - Thursday October 30th

November 11, 2025 at 4:43 PMApprovedPBL Breakfast @ BayfrontMental Health Task Force11/11/202512/05/2025The Mental Health Task Force would like to request permission to host a PBL Breakfast for first- and second-year students at the Bayfront campus on December 5th from 9-11 am. The event would take place in the Bayfront cafeteria on a table (that the task force will bring) along the righthand wall in front of the Coca-Cola display case and will include pre-packaged breakfast items such as muffins, granola bars, and Pop-Tarts. A Mental Health Task Force member and a faculty member, Dr. Waters, will be present for the entire event to make sure everything goes smoothly. This event is intended to support student wellbeing during a period of increased academic stress, as PBL students are currently approaching finals. Many students have limited time in the morning to prepare or eat breakfast, and providing convenient, individually packaged food options encourages proper nourishment, allows for a brief study break, and fosters positive peer interaction. We believe this event will promote community support, reduce stress, and reinforce healthy habits during a demanding time in the semester.

We have gotten the permission from Abiding Hope Lutheran Church on West Grandview Blvd to host this event in their multipurpose room. We are hoping to hold the event on December 6th at 6pm-8:30pm. We are aware that the event is only a few weeks away. It took more time to find a suitable date for the therapy dogs, church, and academic schedules. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

We're going to figure out a way to expand the communication about this fundraiser so that everyone who wants a jacket can get them! Going to start the sale as soon as it is approved and have it run for about 2 weeks so the event start and end dates are not really applicable.

April 27, 2024 at 2:36 PMRejectedPatagonia FundraiserAMMSA04/27/202408/01/2024Due to the success our club had with this fundraiser in the 2023-2024 academic year, where we received overwhelming positive feedback on the ease of the process and quality of the jackets and embroidery. AMMSA would like to sell the "LECOM Patagonia Jacket." This will provide students the opportunity to show pride in their school while staying warm. We plan to sell the jackets at a low profit to keep them affordable for all students and we plan to sell to all years and staff at LECOM. We plan on using the official LECOM logo as provided in the portal on the jacket. The students and faculty will be able to embroider their names on the jacket, as well as choose between a full-zip, quarter-zip, or a vest in different colors. The ordering will happen through a google form, people will be able to pay with cash or through online payment with Zelle or Venmo. All the funds will be meticulously tracked and an excel form will be available for the administration and SGA to follow, through our treasurer Imran Husain @ Ihusain87621@med.lecom.edu. Once the orders are ready students and faculty will be able to pick them up on campus at the Vora Lounge. The Patagonia Jacket Fundraiser will help our club accumulate funds to use this coming school year on any events that we plan on hosting. We have reached out to Patagonia regarding supplying jackets for the fundraiser, and have set-up an account for ordering the jackets. We also plan on using a local embroidery shop in order to also support local businesses with our fundraising. We will also work on streamlining the process to allow people to receive their jackets earlier and be able to use them when the cold weather begins. The main point of contact for this fundraiser will be Faysal Abu-Samhan at Fabusamhan54105@med.lecom.edu.

November 9, 2018 at 12:29 PMRejectedOverflow Shelter Foot ClinicSOMA11/09/201811/28/2018Over the past few years, LECOM SOMA has conducted a foot clinic at the overflow homeless shelters on Monday evenings between December and late March. The overflow shelter is sponsored by a local place of worship that switches locations every 2 weeks. These shelters offer overnight shelter to the homeless of Erie during the winter months. The overflow shelter is run by volunteers from the sponsoring church as well as local community organizations including Community Health Net and EUMA: Healthcare for the Homeless Partnerships. The role of the volunteering LECOM student includes providing foot care to individuals. This includes washing and drying of the feet, pulse measurements, testing for paresthesias, and identifying cuts/ bruises/ signs of infection. A H&P is taken of each individual and recorded in files that are monitored by Faith Community Nurse, Barbara Lewis, who uses the information for podiatrist and physician follow-ups. Additionally, other nurses are on staff during the entire duration of the foot clinic for consultation by the medical student. Not only are the medical students providing care to the individual, but they are also conveying a fresh, empathetic perception of the healthcare system (as most of these individuals have been burnt by the system). A training session will be held on Wednesday, November 28th at 6:30pm. Students will be introduced to the community and specific problems faced by the homeless population and what is expected of them at the foot clinic. Attendance at this training is required for participation. The first foot clinic will be held on December 3rd and the event runs from 7-9:30pm. The last scheduled date is March 25. A group of 3-4 students (plus myself or Alanna Grafius: Local Healthcare Disparities Coordinators) will volunteer two Mondays in a row followed by a new group of students.
