The AFJ-ROTC Commandos Competition is a physically demanding military-style athletic event featuring activities such as ropes courses, tire flipping, people carrying, and running. Last year, the responsibility for both first aid and scoring were handled by a single individual (Dr. Chludzinski), which caused delays in event results. This year, she has requested additional assistance specifically for first aid coverage. Our role will be to provide basic first aid services for event participants, such as bandaging, applying ice, and addressing minor injuries. A first aid kit, stocked with essential supplies, has already been donated for use by the club. Additionally, the AFJ-ROTC has requested support in the form of a donation of basic first aid supplies, including bandages, splints, ace wraps, and other items for use during their practices and future competitions. If club funds are available, we would like to explore the possibility of contributing to this request. Dr. Chludzinski will be present to supervise all first aid efforts, ensuring appropriate oversight throughout the event. We believe this is an excellent opportunity for students to engage with the community while gaining practical experience in providing medical support in a real-world setting.February 20, 2019 at 9:33 PMApprovedRotations PanelSOMA02/20/201903/20/2019A panel of OMS2's will attend SOMA's March meeting to hold an open forum about rotations. The conference is organized and run by medical students from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry Student National Medical Association (SNMA) and has been a huge success over the past years. This year is no exception and we are expecting another 300 students to visit our school for the day. The conference will be Saturday February 2nd, 2019 from 8 AM until 3:00PM PM. The event will include interactive learning modules, meet-and-greet with physicians and medical students, as well as a keynote address by Dr. Ian Wilson, a diagnostic radiologist and alumnus of the Univ. of Rochester. http://www.ursnma.org/March 18, 2024 at 3:06 PMApprovedRita's FundraiserSOMA03/18/202404/22/2024SOMA is looking to host a fundraiser at Rita's Italian Ice on April 22, 2024 from 5:00-8:00 pm. The first aim is to introduce our SOMA chapter constituents to resolution writing, and the process of advocacy possible to members enlisted in SOMA. This will entail a mock writing session centered around a light-hearted topic, overseen by SOMA Chapter Leaders, which may help spark debate and conversation, so that processes of argumentative writing are established, and constituents understand how and why we write resolutions in the set format. The second aim of this event is to initiate conversation between students to help establish comradery between incoming first year medical students, and between classes, so that we may help facilitate an idealism that truly, Osteopathic Medicine is a community.October 14, 2024 at 8:25 PMApprovedResolution WorkshopSOMA10/14/202411/17/2024Aim of the event is to introduce potential SOMA leaders, as well as interested constituents, how to properly write a resolution. This is key information that needs to be understood by SOMA members, and will help them gain insight as to how SOMA advocates healthcare policy.October 6, 2022 at 5:23 PMApprovedResidency and Fellowship Application Process Q+A with Dr. Mark FaberLECOM Med Erie - SGA10/06/202210/17/2022Dr. Mark Faber wants to share his experience with MS3s and MS4s on applying to residencies and the interview process. For our SOMA Chapter, we would like to make homemade cards for the residents at LECOM at Village Square. We would like to do this during our lunch breaks from 11:20 - 12:20 on October 28th and 29th, and SOMA would provide all participants with the materials necessary to make the cards. We plan to call LECOM at Village Square ahead of time in order to know what restrictions they have on what can be included in the cards, and how many residents they have to ensure there is a card for each resident. At the time of the event, we plan to provide participants with prompts of what they can include in the card along with a list of what cannot be included in the cards. We hope to be able to carry out this small task and give a smile to the elders in our community.
