It will be a casual event held in the OPP Lab immediately following the Tuesday forum on April 15th. The event will be from 6:30-7:30 pm and the room has already been reserved for SAAO. All students are welcome to join after the forum.
July 24, 2023 at 3:19 PMApprovedSAAO OPP Table RaffleSAAO07/24/202308/05/2023SAAO would like to hold a raffle of an OPP table (portable massage table) to raise money to help offset convocation costs and help recruit new members to the organization. We plan to have the table present on August 5th during the student expo and offer free raffle ticket chances to new members during club/activity sign-up. We hope that the table will incentivize new students to sign up and join SAAO and come to our first open forum the following Tuesday night. We also plan to sell tickets to existing members of SAAO-Erie at various price options 1 ticket for $1.00, 3 tickets for $5.00, and an arm's length of tickets (12) for $10.00. Paper raffle tickets with printed numbers will be used and cash/check will be accepted with all transactions being logged via our treasurer in a Microsoft Excel sheet. The drawing will take place on August 15th.

Tables will be offered in multiple colors. We are in discussion with a manufacturer for a possible group discount. Ordering of the table will be down over google forms.

The MS1 Forum will occur from 5:30-6:30pm and the MS2 Forum will occur from 6:30-7:30 pm on Tuesday nights throughout the semster. These review sessions will occur every other week but may occasionally occur two weeks in a row depending on the need and the OPP lab schedule COVID Precautions: • Everyone will be wearing a mask • A sign in sheet will be provided • Upon sign in, students will be assigned to a table and forum writer to create a small pod • Students will stay in their assigned pod to limit the number of contacts • Each learning pod will be social distanced from the other pods • Tables will be wiped down between partners • At the end of the forum, all tables will be cleaned Pods will be released to leave one a time to further reduce contact

This will allow us to have approval in time to have a forum before the first practical on August 10th. We will meet every other Tuesday, but having all Tuesdays reserved will let us make changes in the our schedule depending on the practical schedule. Students will have the opportunity to practice and ask any questions they may have before the practicals that will be occurring the following day, Wednesdays, in class lab. Both will take place in the OPP lab at the LECOM-ERIE main building. The MS1 forum will take place from 5:30-6:30pm. Break will be from 6:30-7:00pm. The MS2 forum will follow from 7:00-8:00 pm. Times are subject to change, mainly the exlusion of a break between forums. All in attendance are required to be SAAO members and have their local and national dues paid.
September 29, 2021 at 2:36 PMApprovedSAAO OPP FridaysSAAO09/29/202110/29/2021We plan to continue OPP Fridays every Friday from October 29th to December 10th (with the exception of during Thanksgiving break) beginning as soon as class ends for the first and second years. Last time, there were only 35 students, so I would expect a maximum of 50 students to attend, meaning that we will have plenty of space in the OPP lab to ensure social distancing precautions are maintained. The topics over the following weeks that we intend to discuss include acupuncture again as well as how to find key lesions, strain patterns, and determining lymph flow/how to treat lymph flowing in the wrong direction. They will each last 1-2 hours.

We will have our first clinic on 9/11, with each subsequent clinic being on the first Wednesday of every month. They will be from 5:00-7:30 PM in the 4th floor study rooms. This will give students first hand experience with patient interactions while also giving them a chance to practice OMM under the supervision of LECOM Faculty. This clinic will adhere to applicable state, federal, and local regulations.
March 11, 2024 at 1:33 PMApprovedSAAO Nursing Home VolunteeringSAAO03/11/202404/24/2024SAAO is hosting a bingo night at the LECOM Senior Living Center to encourage students to volunteer and interact with the residents at the SLC. The event will be on April 24 from 6:00-7:00 pm. It is open to SAAO members only, but will be promoting the event before hand to try and gain more membership. At the nursing home, there will be various activities including board games, bingo, and arts and crafts. Students volunteering will be in compliance with both LECOM COVID guidelines, as well as the guidelines put in place by the SLC.

This will include a meeting with a viewing of a short youtube video that centers around identifying abuse. This video has been reviewed and approved by Dr. Laton, and he will also be moderating the event and leading discussions about the video. This event will take place in the OPP lab. We hope this event will be a great way to bring awareness to students regarding sensitive topics, and hopefully provide them with tools and resources they can take with them in their future career as physicians. This fundraiser would lessen the out of pockets costs to try and garner more people to travel and represent at a national level at convocation. This is a "digital" fundraiser. People will use the link we provide and place their order for a dozen donuts online. They'll then receive a confirmation code that can be taken to any Krispy Kreme across the country for them to receive their order. We did this to try and promote SAAO-Erie at a national level.
January 6, 2025 at 4:31 PMApprovedSAAO JumpStart DinnerSAAO01/06/202501/15/2025The SAAO would like to host a dinner at Buffalo Wild wings on January 15th at 6 pm. The purpose of this dinner would be to offer a relaxed environment that the current executive board and forum writers could meet with the newly voted executive board and forum writers to foster a seamless transition/changing of the guard. At this dinner, new ideas for the 2025-2026 academic year will be discussed, forum writers can work together to share tips on how to lead successful forums and retain members. We would also like to invite several faculty members to this dinner to encourage conversation about osteopathy in practice, tips for board studying and rotations, and convocation preparation. We would like to invite Dr. Stephany, Dr. Erik Esper, Dr. Hendryx, Dr. Balmer, Dr. Cukierkski, Dr. Thomas, Dr. Chludzinski, and Dr. Rowane to name a few. We have 35 members planning on attending convocation in March so this would also be a great way to build excitement for this trip. We are really hoping this dinner can serve as a "Jump Start" to the new year with the new chapter leadership and also jumpstart our trip to Orlando. We are allocating $350 for this dinner to offset costs of food for the members in attendance. Any costs of food over this amount will be assumed by the individuals there in attendance. This dinner will be open to the old and new exec board members, old and new forum writers.
