SOMA and Allies Club will be holding a card drive where students can create or donate handwritten cards with uplifting messages. The cards will be delivered to local nursing home residents to help brighten their days and remind them they are valued and remembered. A drop box labeled for card collections will be placed in the lobby where cards can be placed. Cards made will can be counted towards service hours(1 hour for 5 cards donated for a maximum of 2 hours/10 items). When donating cards, students should put their items in a bag clearly labeled with their name and year (MS1, MS2, etc.). SNMA is focused on supporting current and future underrepresented minority medical students and we believe it is important to highlight different cultures to give students increased medical cultural competency. Dr. David Figueroa is a psychiatrist and is affiliated with Millcreek Community Hospital in Erie. He obtained his medical degree from Western University of Health Sciences and his Master of Science in medical education from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry and his residency at LECOM. Dr. David Figueroa will discuss his path to medicine and discuss the influence of Hispanic Culture on treatment of care.
