The CEO of Voices for Independence (VFI), Shona Eakins, will come and give a presentation about has as future providers we can provide care that is accessible to people with all ranges of abilities. Three nurses who work at VFI will attend the event with her to demonstrate how to use a hoyer lift to transport people with physical diabilities. All in all, this event will be a way for students to learn about how to better care for this population of people.
September 21, 2018 at 11:21 AMApprovedStop the Bleed Program for Gannon UniversityEmergency Medicine09/21/201810/23/2018Members of the EM Club certified in instructing "Stop the Bleed" will volunteer at Gannon University for the Pre-Med Club on campus. The purpose of Stop the Bleed is to be able to react in a mass casualty situation to control bleeding at the scene. Students will obtain tools from "Stop the Bleed" in order to effectively teach the students. Amanda Lencyk from Mercy Hospital in Ohio will bring the equipment for the event at Gannon on 10/23 at 6pm. Zach Weisner, MS-II has a confirmation email from Ms. Lencyk stating she will be supplying the mannequins, PowerPoint presentation, and sign up sheets.

We would be selling shirt to the pharmacy student as well that would have "We are Pharmers" on the back, and the medical students would have "Trust me, I am (almost) a doctor!" on the back. The front will have a simple lecom approved logo. We are also hoping to sell these as sweatshirts.

This event is open to the entire student body. We will be picking road signs, gloves, garbage bags, and safety vests from PennDOT, meet at Zuck park, and spend a few hours walking the length of W. Grandview Blvd. We will be picking up debris to the enhance the appearance of the roadway and improve the health of individuals and wildlife that traverse Grandview Blvd. Filled garbage will be picked up by PennDOT the next day. Coffee and donuts will be provided to participants.

The Erie County Medical Society will be supplying equipment for "Stop the Bleed" and students will be assisting in teaching the public.

She is the President of the ACOEP and Director of Osteopathic Medical Education at Crozer Keystone Health System.
