The purpose of the brunch is to invite around 5 MS3s/MS4s in the area and LECOM faculty to interact with MS1s. This interaction will include networking, asking questions about the process between rotations/residency selections, and receiving reassurance about the board study process. There will also be raffle baskets at the brunch with donations directly going to The Michael J. Fox foundation which is a foundation dedicated to fundraising money for Parkinson’s, which is a condition MS1s are learning about in Neuroanatomy this month. The expenses will be paid for by the class up to $2000 and any other expenses will be split amongst the members joining, however the total amount of spending will be close to $2000. This will happen the first weekend of May in the morning with faculty at a location that has been sought out known as The Cork. Building off of the Wilderness Medicine Club's first aid kit sale, it is common to carry a tourniquet alongside your kit for dire circumstances. Current research shows the significant decrease in traumatic mortality when a tourniquet is applied to uncontrollable extremity bleeds. We hope that by running this fundraiser our students will be safer and better prepared for the unforeseen circumstances that have unfortunately become all too common in today's day and age.
