Purpose Students will gain hands-on experience interacting with patients and apply osteopathic manipulative medicine techniques to diagnose and treat musculoskeletal dysfunctions. II. Background Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (Erie campus) is renowned for its osteopathic medical education. Despite its strong educational framework, there is a lack of extracurricular opportunities to interact directly with patients during the preclinical years, which would be essential for medical student professional development and preparation for clerkship years. This lack of accessible clinical experiences prompted the idea for this clinic. It aims to bridge the gap by offering real-world practice opportunities for osteopathic medical students. Exposure to osteopathic manipulative treatment in practice can reinforce their understanding and appreciation of osteopathic principles, thereby fostering a deeper commitment to the methods and practices they are taught. Furthermore, the establishment of this clinic is not only beneficial for the students but also for the community. It provides an essential service to underserved populations, improving healthcare access and outcomes. By integrating osteopathic practices into community healthcare, the clinic promotes the growth and recognition of osteopathy as a vital component of modern medicine. III. Goals and Objectives Goals: 1. Create a dynamic learning environment where osteopathic medical students can apply their knowledge and hone their clinical skills under the guidance of experienced DOs. 2. Implement best practices for clinic administration, including efficient patient flow, accurate record-keeping, and compliance with healthcare regulations. 3. Provide accessible, high-quality osteopathic manipulative treatment to underserved populations, improving overall health outcomes within the community. 4. Position the clinic as a leading example of osteopathic care within the community, fostering greater acceptance and utilization of osteopathic medical practices. Objectives: 1. Enhance community health by providing osteopathic manipulative treatment to 10 patients per clinic session. 2. Organize 1 clinic session per month, potentially increasing the number of monthly sessions after the first year. IV. Description Duration: Each clinic visit will span approximately one hour, allowing time for students and preceptors to engage in practice and patient care. Location: On campus or Plaza 38 Medical Center Patient visit: • Mass emails will be sent to invite LECOM faculty, staff, and students as clinic patients. • Prior to each clinic session, all students will participate in preparatory sessions. These sessions will ensure uniformity in approach and readiness among students. • Patient records will be kept as e-charts • One first-year and one second-year student will work together for each visit: o First-year student: Observes and assists with documentation o Second-year student: Conducts history/physical examination, formulates diagnoses, and develops a treatment plan based on findings • The attending physician reviews the students' findings and guides the treatment process. They will provide feedback and reassessment of patient dysfunctions. • The second-year student will perform osteopathic manipulative treatments on the patient and reassess dysfunctions with the attending physician. • Plan for future visit Clinic dates for The 2026 academic year are as follows: 1/7, 2/4, 3/4, 4/1, 5/6. Students will arrive to the clinic by 17:00 to prepare for patients to arrive at 17:30 for the start of the clinic.June 18, 2025 at 3:27 PMCompletePatagonia FundraiserSOMA06/18/202501/06/2026Due to the success of the Patagonia sale on our campus last year, and after being approached by multiple students asking to have the sale again, LECOM Erie SOMA is looking to duplicate the Patagonia sale that took place last year. The event would take place in the Bayfront cafeteria on a table (that the task force will bring) along the righthand wall in front of the Coca-Cola display case and will include pre-packaged breakfast items such as muffins, granola bars, and Pop-Tarts. A Mental Health Task Force member and a faculty member, Dr. Waters, will be present for the entire event to make sure everything goes smoothly. This event is intended to support student wellbeing during a period of increased academic stress, as PBL students are currently approaching finals. Many students have limited time in the morning to prepare or eat breakfast, and providing convenient, individually packaged food options encourages proper nourishment, allows for a brief study break, and fosters positive peer interaction. We believe this event will promote community support, reduce stress, and reinforce healthy habits during a demanding time in the semester.November 16, 2025 at 2:45 PMApprovedBubble Tea Sip & Support Fundraiser EventNeuropsych Club11/16/202512/05/2025NeuroPsych and APAMSA are collaborating for their annual fundraiser event. The target audience is both MS1 and MS2 classes for use when studying systems and board review. The booklet was inspired by Dr. Kulesza's Clinical Supplement and highlights key signs, buzzwords and modalities for specific pathologies that are covered in the LECOM curriculum. All images are adapted from Radiopaedia.org, with appropriate citations and Radiopaedia IDs to help students view the case in a full-definition. Radiopaedia.org gave their permission for our use of their images provided these appropriate citations. Our club plans to print 8.5 x 5.5 in, full color, spiral bound booklets and sell them for $15-25 each, pending final printing and shipping costs. The fundraiser will go live before winter break and upon our return in the spring we will distribute them. Payment will be accepted via Venmo or cash, Venmo preferred to increase engagement over winter break. We are happy to provide SGA with our final draft if needed. We plan to provide Dr. Shabloski and any other faculty that requests a copy for final revision if necessary. If possible, we would like to include the LECOM logo on the cover to increase "official" quality of the booklet. The Radiology club may use this booklet with future revisions in future years as fundraisers.
