January 15, 2020 at 7:22 PMExpiredSOMA Health Disparities Charity DriveSOMA01/15/202002/24/2020Directors: Kayla M. Trautman-Buckley and Jaclyn Natalone Proposal: Health Disparities Diaper Drive for Mercy Center for Women Date: February 24-28 Location: LECOM Cafeteria The Mercy Center for Women is a sponsored ministry of the Sisters of Mercy and is committed to enhancing the dignity of each person it serves, through the healing of body, mind and spirit. Mercy Center for Women provides safe and supportive transitional housing, education, case management and advocacy for homeless women with or without children. MCW relies on donations in order to help vulnerable women and children in the Erie community. These women may be homeless for a variety of reasons and the staff at MCW helps to facilitate access to healthcare and dental care as well as act a stepping stone to these women getting back to independent living. Currently, MCW is in desperate need of some supplies. They particularly need diapers sizes 3-5 and wipes. However, there are a plethora of items accepted at MCW. The goal of this charity event is to ask the LECOM community to come together to provide much need items to MCW. While the focus will be on diapers and wipes, MCW also needs blank planners to help the women manage their appointments. They also accept all canned food, including baby food, as well as toiletries and clothing. Every donation made will aid a woman to better take care of her child, stay safe from domestic violence, andstay inside, warm, and fed during the winter months and beyond. Collecting these items will help to promote the health and well-being of some of Erie’s most vulnerable. We will need permission for a box to be placed in the LECOM cafeteria, or another suggested space.

The event follows an administrative update at 11am on the same day, meaning that class members of all pathways will be present on campus and free to attend. The event will take place in the Cafeteria and Vora Lounge where food will be distributed. Purpose: We would like to host an event to celebrate the end of the Class of 2028’s first academic year at LECOM. The event will be a chance for MS1s to take a mental health break right before finals week and an opportunity to build community between our classmates of different pathways. We would like to provide food at this celebration, and the details for food items and distribution are outlined below. Setup/Cleanup: The Class Board will coordinate with Dupree in dining to assure that the cafeteria staff are aware of the event’s use of the cafeteria and the date/time. The use of serving utensils from the cafeteria will also be requested. Napkins will be provided using the supplies that were bought for our last event and are currently stored in Dr. Shabloski’s office. The Class Board will reach out to Manny in maintenance to coordinate cleanup in the cafeteria following the event. Any food that is left over at the conclusion of the event will be free for students to bring home to ensure there is no food waste. We will order from Mighty Fine Donuts to support local Erie businesses. Mighty Fine Donuts is a bakery that has been mentioned many times throughout our lectures and classes, and we would like to give students in our class the opportunity to try it. The donuts will be picked up in the morning and we will coordinate with Dupree in dining to store the donuts in the cafe until the start of the event. We will order 12.5 dozen assorted donuts for $169.25.

SAAO will be hosting forum review sessions every other Wednesday. This will provide students with the opportunity to practice and ask any questions they may have before the practical’s that will be occurring the following day, Thursdays, in class lab. The first forum review is currently schedule for August 11, 2021. Both will take place in the OPP lab at the LECOM-ERIE main building. The MS1 forum will take place from 5:30-6:30pm pm. Break from 6:30-7:00 pm. The MS2 forum will follow from 7:00-8:00 pm. Times are subject to change, mainly the exlusion of a break between forums. We decided to do it during the month of September since it is suicide prevention month. We have decided to give the top 5 participants $10 gift cards. We are also going to send out a form for the people who are interested in participating, and then on the first day of the event we are going to send out the team name for everyone to join and then start walking, running, or biking. Everything is done on the app called Charity Miles, and the money is sent to the charity directly through the app. The participants will just make an account, join our team, and then work out on their own to raise money for the charity.
