Through this program, they help guide middle to high school students in their academics and social interactions as they adapt to their new life in the U.S. IMS club has been the main club from LECOM to volunteer and collaborate with the MCRC. In the past, there had been recurring volunteer events with the MCRC and IMS club; however due to COVID, these events had come to a hiatus. Now, there has been a new opportunity for IMS club to lend a hand to the MCRC with their after-school program. IMS club volunteers would come in once a week to help tutor students in math, science, and English. We would volunteer on Wednesdays from 3-5pm at the MCRC located at 554 East 10th Street, Erie, PA 16503. During our time there, there will always be at least 3 adult MCRC staff members to supervise, be in control, and take responsibility for the program and the children. Clearances for PA mandated state laws, including background checks and fingerprint checks are required of all volunteers, and will be completed before attending the program. For further contact and information, you can reach out to Francesca Tronetti, the Director of Youth Services at the MCRC (814-455-0212), and/or Yuri Becerra, the Truancy Team Leader at the MCRC (814-566-3706). Kids create colorful bracelets using pipe cleaners and UV-sensitive beads, which change color when exposed to ultraviolet light. After making their bracelets, participants apply sunscreen to selected beads and then use an ultraviolet flashlight to observe how protected beads react differently from those without sunscreen. This visual demonstration clearly shows how effective sun protection is at blocking harmful UV rays. To extend the learning beyond the activity, children receive take-home reminder cards about wearing sunscreen. Informational cards are also provided for parents, offering guidance on how to protect their children’s skin and reinforcing the importance of consistent sun safety habits. SOMA will have a sign up sheet with a maximum of 20 volunteers to help staff the table, help kids with any part of the project, and answer questions. The event is hosted by the Erie Children’s Museum on May 9, 2026, from 11 am to 2 pm, during their dedicated STEAM times. The Children’s museum will provide pipe cleaners, beads, and sunscreen for the project.September 4, 2019 at 9:10 AMRejectedEmma's FootprintsWomens Health Club09/04/201909/09/2019Emma's Footprints is a local non-profit that helps families who have had a fetal demise or infantile loss. They provide free counseling, support, burial services, and financial help in these difficult times. They also spread awareness and bring people in the community who have dealt with the same tragedy together to create a local support system. Last year, WHC got involved with this organization and will be volunteering with them again this year. Emma's Footprints is going to talk about their mission since we will be working with them as well as their personal stories of losing a child so we can better understand how to handle these sensitive subjects when we are physicians and maybe even parents someday.January 10, 2019 at 2:26 PMApprovedT-shirt saleEmergency Medicine01/10/201901/22/2019EM Club is hoping to hold a T-shirt sale to raise funds for future events.
