APAMSA’s wants to spread diversity by celebrating one of the popular and significant holidays of the Hindu community. Holi is a vibrant celebration that involves a lot of dancing, singing, and throwing colored powders. APAMSA is partnering up with the LECOM Mentoring Club to celebrate Holi with the kids at the YMCA. We want to educate the children on what Holi means and to celebrate a joyous and colorful holiday by having them interact with colored powders (paints) that are easily washable and environmentally friendly. Both clubs have gotten approval from YMCA in allowing children to partake in this activity. APAMSA will bring all the materials needed for the event to happen. Both APAMSA and Mentoring Club will be responsible for cleaning the aftermath of the event premises. The event will take place on March 28 at 5:30 – 6:30 PM located at Erie Heights Kids Club. Estimated amount of people attending the event: ~20-30 people All participants will undergo a background check beforehand using the following links: https://epatch.pa.gov/home and https://www.compass.state.pa.us/CWIS/Public/Home No child will be left alone with another participant.October 2, 2024 at 5:35 PMApprovedSNMA Hispanic Heritage Month Physician Speaker Q&ASNMA10/02/202410/15/2024Hispanic Heritage Month is from September 15th to October 15th and Dr. David Figueroa has accepted the invitation to speak to students on his experience into and within medicine as an underrepresented minority. SNMA is focused on supporting current and future underrepresented minority medical students and we believe it is important to highlight different cultures to give students increased medical cultural competency. Dr. David Figueroa is a psychiatrist and is affiliated with Millcreek Community Hospital in Erie. He obtained his medical degree from Western University of Health Sciences and his Master of Science in medical education from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry and his residency at LECOM. Dr. David Figueroa will discuss his path to medicine and discuss the influence of Hispanic Culture on treatment of care. There will be an opportunity for students to ask any questions of interest as well!August 22, 2021 at 1:14 PMApprovedLapel Pin SalePM&R Club08/22/202108/25/2021Hi, We are planning to hold a fundraiser and sell custom lapel pins for the student's white coats. I have attached images of the custom designs for approval. We do not intend to use the official logo, just the LECOM name will be included in the design. The sale will occur online, and we will post a Google Form for students to fill out their orders. The pins will be custom made by an online company, and they will hopefully be shipped within a week of the end date of the fundraiser. It is too late to have them in by the white coat ceremony for the Class of 2024, so I will just have to distribute it to our class at a specific date and time in the future. However, for the first year's class I was wondering if it would be possible to distribute their pins along with their white coats on the date of their actual ceremony. I will come in early and put a pin on each student's chair who orders one. Thank you! We are asking you to share the GoFundMe link on any and all social media platforms you have -- if you share the link, we will give you 1 service hour for every social media platform you post on (max of 3). On their website, they have a detailed packet of all instructions and recommendations to set up an event and this packet is attached with this description. In summary, Food for Kidz will deliver the dried food in bulk and all of the equipment needed to set up packing stations. Our volunteers will help set up all the packing stations and supplies. Volunteers then work in teams to pack individual, sealed, fortified rice-soy protein meal packages. Each of these packages provides six servings. These packages are then packed into boxes (216 packages per box) which will then be sent to a child in need somewhere in the world. One box of food will feed a child for approximately 7 months. At the end of the packing session, volunteers will then help load the boxes of packed food and supplies onto the Food for Kidz truck, and the Food for Kidz organization will handle the rest of the distribution and delivery of the food to its destination. Purpose: To provide an opportunity for LECOM to help fight world hunger and volunteer our time to help those in need in our world, and to foster the caring and giving attitude embedded in LECOM’s mission. We hope to hold this event as a large volunteer opportunity open to all LECOM students and faculty, that encourages students and faculty from all disciplines, pathways, and clubs to work together and get to know each other outside of the classroom or otherwise defined roles within other groups/clubs. Volunteers: Open to all LECOM students and faculty Funding: Food for Kidz recommends raising approximately $20 per adult per hour of packing, to cover the costs of the food, supplies, and costs of running the event. After approval of the event, we will send out sign up forms in which volunteers can sign up for the shift(s) they would like. Based on the total amount of people signed up to volunteer for each hour, we can calculate the total amount of money needed to hold the event, which we hope to use SGA funding for. Ex. 50 people volunteering each hour x 4 hours x $20 = $4000 Covid Protocol: All attendees will be required to remain masked for the entirety of their time volunteering. Attendees will follow all guidelines for exposure and symptoms as outlined in the portal screening form. Hand sanitizer will be provided.
