As a club, we will select a few kid's designs to sell to the LECOM body! These designs will be included in the sticker "pack" that will also have some uplifting stickers as well. To better facilitate the management of the sale, we will send out a Google form to club members for purchase, so we can organize the finances & sticker pack pick-up as efficiently as possible. Attached below are the designs we were thinking of selling. The sticker design is one formed by the officers, while the coloring pages are the ones the kids will have a chance to design themselves.September 21, 2018 at 11:21 AMApprovedStop the Bleed Program for Gannon UniversityEmergency Medicine09/21/201810/23/2018Members of the EM Club certified in instructing "Stop the Bleed" will volunteer at Gannon University for the Pre-Med Club on campus. Students will get to hear the raw and unedited story of Elizabeth, one of the patient speakers from the Amyloidosis Speakers Bureau, who will share their personal journey with amyloidosis -- from symptoms, through diagnosis, treatment, and life today battling a rare and incurable disease. This is a unique charity, because it focuses on educating medical students through a real-life patient encounter. The entirely virtual event will be hosted through ZOOM and will last roughly one hour. Mackenzie’s Mission has offered for us to use their ZOOM platform where they can hold a maximum of 500 students. A brief video about Amyloidosis is encouraged for students to watch before the event occurs. Timeline of events: Start time 6:30 PM Student lead introduction of Mackenzie’s Mission and Guest Speaker, Elizabeth (5 minutes) Speaker presentation (30 minutes) Live Q/A session (20 minutes) Closing and Thank you (5 minutes) The event is free of charge to students, and there was no fee to have the event brought to LECOM. Mackenzie’s Mission will send out a survey at the end of the presentation for students to take. The Amyloidosis Speakers Bureau will send $5 Amazon eCards to the first 20 students who complete the Feedback Form. LECOM will be the first Osteopathic school that Mackenzie’s Mission will have the opportunity to spread awareness to. They are very excited!January 15, 2022 at 2:29 PMApprovedAdvanced Directives Information PresentationSOMA01/15/202203/09/2022Many students (myself included) do not know how to create an advanced directive, carry one out, or even what one is. This remote presentation (via Zoom) from Amy Ventry, MSW and Social Service Coordinator at Lakeland Area Hospice, will guide us through what an advanced directive is and how to write one for ourselves, and how to carry out one for our future patients. With COVID becoming increasingly present in our world and with younger people being severely affected, it is important that young adults have advanced directives in place. While we hope to never need to use advanced directives, it is still crucial that we have our wishes be known in the event of being unable to make these decisions. Amy will give a 45 minute remote presentation about advanced directives, and then will open the floor for questions about advanced directives and her presentation.January 15, 2023 at 3:02 PMExpiredOMT in Family Practice PanelFamily Medicine Club01/15/202302/06/2023Local LECOM affiliated physicians will share how they incorporate OMT in their daily practice. This event will give members an opportunity to learn from an orthopedic surgeon how to properly cast. The event will also be extended to the orthopedics club as it is an important skill for them to develop. As a resident at Millcreek Hospital, Dr. Miller is well versed in casting and has previous experience working with medical students. Earlier that day he will be giving the LDP pathway a lecture in casting so this event will allow students to learn the material in the classroom and then directly implement that knowledge with a hands on event. The anticipated event will be held on February 24th from 6pm-8pm in the OPP Lab. Our advisor, Dr. Melodie Chludzinski will be present. Furthermore, here are the COVID protocols that I ensure are upheld at all ACOS events: 1.) We will have a full roster of every individual who attends the guest lecturer event 2.) We will require masks, and uphold social distancing of at least 6 feet 3.) We will create a screening form for all members that sign up and require that they disclose any signs and symptoms, travel history, and close contact history prior to attending The educational purpose of this event is to expose students to a critical skill that requires proficiency in a variety of different specialties. As some students may not have been exposed to this technique yet, this will be a fantastic opportunity to allow students to gain hands on experience and knowledge from a practicing orthopedic surgeon within the LECOM Health system.February 15, 2024 at 9:02 AMApprovedCasting ClinicACOS-MSS02/15/202402/23/2024LECOM surgery club is excited to put on a casting clinic with Dr. Anthony Ferretti and Dr. Eric Goodrich.
