September 7, 2023 at 1:25 PMExpiredVolunteer with Walk to End Alzheimer'sNeuropsych Club09/07/202309/23/2023On Saturday September 23, 2023 Walk to End Alzheimers is hosting an event here in Erie, PA. The organizers of the event are calling for as many volunteers as possible to help with "set-up, clean-up, registration, water stops, Promise Garden and so much more" for their upcoming event (Walk to End Alz website). I think this would be a great opportunity for the members of the NeuroPsych club to give back to the community and engage in a population of folks we are sure to encounter as future Neurologists/Psychiatrists. Also, as a LECOM health sponsored event it would be a pleasure to show our bright smiling faces to the people of Erie. The site coordinator and contact for the Walk to End Alz is as follows: Sr. Director of Development, Sara Giammarise | 814-636-6390 | sgiammarise@alz.org As far as COVID mitigation is concerned, this is an outdoor event and we will practice social distancing as much as possible. I will make sure the club provides hand sanitizer for at least our members if none is already available on-site.
August 12, 2022 at 2:58 PMApprovedAddiction in Medicine DiscussionSOMA08/12/202210/18/2022On October 18th, SOMA would like to host an informational session about Addiction Medicine. This event will be given via Zoom by Dr. Elizabeth Zona. She is an addiction medicine specialist who was recommended to us by one of our MMS students! Some example topics that will be covered are: -her background and why she chose to pursue Addiction Med -current fellowship programs available and their general curriculum -the Neurobiology of Addiction -her average work day -potential practice options (inpatient vs outpatient models). Given that one of SOMA's pillars is to educate on opioid use and addiction in general, we thought this would be a good topic to have a presentation on! We will send out a sign up sheet, Zoom link, and form to submit questions for Dr. Zona as soon as this event is approved. The event will be via Zoom on 10/18 (already checked and coordinated with MMS, MS1, and MS2 exam schedules) from 6-7:30PM. Dr. Thielman and Dr. Lee have already consulted and agreed to this event.
