March 30, 2026 at 9:44 PMApprovedShark Tank Pitch NightResearch Club03/30/202605/11/2026Research Club is planning an event where students can pitch their research ideas to a panel of faculty with experience in both clinical and basic science research. This is a great opportunity for anyone who has an idea but isn’t sure how to get started, wants feedback on feasibility, or is looking for mentorship. During the event, selected students will give brief pitches (either individually or as a group) to a panel of faculty and clinicians. The panel will provide constructive feedback, guidance on next steps, and insight into how to turn ideas into real projects. Faculty and/or clinicians may also choose to mentor projects they find especially compelling. Whether students already have a fully developed idea or are just starting to think about one, we encourage all students to present their ideas and get feedback! Guest speakers are to be determined. We plan to tailor the panel of faculty and clinicians to the research ideas submitted, ensuring that the panel includes individuals with relevant expertise in the corresponding fields. To facilitate this, interested students will complete a Google Form indicating the topic of their idea. Once the panel has been assembled based on these submissions, we will finalize and submit the attending guest speakers.
August 30, 2024 at 6:17 PMApprovedThe Trevor Project Pin Sale FundraiserAllies08/30/202410/01/2024Recently in the US and across the world, there has been increased hate and violence towards the LGBT community, particularly towards the transgender community. Pauly Likens was a 14 year old transgender girl who was brutally murdered this summer about an hour away from Erie in Sharon, PA. This was the 19th violent killing of a transgender person, and the fourth killing of a transgender teenager, since the beginning of 2024. In her memory and to support future LGBT youth, Allies Club will be selling pins during the entire month of October to raise money for The Trevor Project. The Trevor Project is a nonprofit organization that does important advocacy work by supporting transgender youth, campaigning to end conversion therapy, and providing resources for LGBT people. Among the many resources they provide, The Trevor Project is also known for being the leading suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ+ young people. There will be three pin options for students to choose from. The first is a pin with a rainbow that states "you are safe with me", the second is a heart shaped pin with the progress pride flag on it, and the third is a transgender pride flag that states “protect trans youth”. The pins will be sold for $25 each. The orders will be placed on a google form with money sent via venmo or cash and then Allies club will order the pins and hand them out to students at the end of the fundraiser. Allies Club will reach out to Pauly Likens’ family to obtain permission to make a donation in her honor. If they do not respond or do not allow permission, Allies Club will simply make the donation in memory of the lives of LGBT people who have been lost to anti-LGBT hate. February 15, 2025 at 9:05 PMApprovedNational DO Day of Service- Spring CelebrationLECOM Med Erie - SGA02/15/202504/12/2025Purpose: This event is to create a volunteer opportunity for LECOM students to serve their community, specifically the residents at the LECOM Senior Living Center. We also will be using this opportunity to participate in National DO Day of Service. Location: LECOM Senior Living Center (5535 Peach Street Erie, PA 16509) We will be using the common cafeteria area. Tables and Chairs will be provided by the facility. Schedule: 12pm-1pm Setup 1pm-3pm Event with residents 1-2pm West Side Residents 2-3pm East Side Residents 3pm-3:30pm Cleanup Event Plan: We will be participating in different group activities with the residents. There will be stations that the residents will participate in and move throughout. The group activities include arts and crafts, nail painting, card games and a snack station. We will be buying pre-packaged snack items including novelty ice-cream, cupcakes, pre-packed water and juice. The facility will provide popcorn and puff corn for those that have swallowing issues. We will be bringing some spring decoration such as flower patterned tablecloth and flower patterned paper plates/napkins. Due to the size of the venue and the high number of residents, we will separate the residents into two waves based on location and their lunch time. The first wave will be the West Side, and the second wave will be the East Side. We will be opening the event to the DO students to come and volunteer. There will be four different shifts available; set up, the first wave of residents, the second wave of residents and clean-up. SGA will be there to facilitate the event with Dr. Melodie. We are hoping for enough students to create a buddy system with the residents to help with the transporting of the residents from place to place and to ensure that each resident is looked after and interacted with. For those that are not able to participate in the Spring Celebration Event – students can come into the OPP lab April 11th to make Spring cards for the residents and SGA will bring them to the event.
June 12, 2023 at 2:00 PMExpiredAnki ClinicLECOM Med Erie - SGA06/12/202307/20/2023Purpose: Anki is flashcard service that many utilize during medical school. The flashcard service is free to use and utilizes a technique called spaced repetition to help students learn and reinforce material. Despite flashcards being common in undergraduate, Anki is not heavily utilized until medical school. The purpose of this clinic is to teach any student the basic ins and outs of the flashcard service. I believe this will be an invaluable resource because many students may try using Anki when medical school starts; however, it takes time to actually learn how the system works. By giving them a preface on how to use the system, it means less of their time will be used on learning the system when the semester started. To lead this clinic, I have contacted Sam Wlasowicz a current OMS-IV. He won the Mr. Anki award 3 years ago, and has already led an Anki Clinic before with some success. I have already talked with him about what I would like him to focus on: basic use of Anki, different styles of Anki (cloze function vs. image occlusion vs. simple flashcards), etc. Funding: None Needed Timeline: I have already contacted Sam several times to ensure he has everything he needs, but I will contact him a week before the event to sure everything is okay. On the day of the event, I will start the Zoom meeting at 6:45 PM and the event will start promptly at 7:00. The clinic should take no longer than an hour to an hour and a half. No clean-up time is needed as the event is over Zoom.

November 1, 2022 at 1:19 PMRejectedHoliday Card DriveSOMA11/01/202211/28/2022Proposed dates: Monday November 28th through Friday December 2nd Alternate dates: Monday December 5th through Friday December 9th Idea: SOMA will be putting together a Christmas Card Drive. This will be a contactless event, and we propose having collection boxes near the security doors. Students will be able to leave their cards for collection. Cards will be picked up at the end of the drive by Paarth Sharma or Co-Chair Smaran Teru. We will advertise this event to the entire Class of 2025 and class of 2026, so they are able to participate. Cards should be dropped off at the security office or at Colleen's desk on the second floor. This will be done in a contact-free manner. Cards will be dropped off at the LECOM Living Center - coordinated with Emily Carver - ecarver@lecomslc.org. Why: SOMA wants to create a COVID-safe opportunity for students to get involved in the Erie community. Having this card drive creates an event that allows LECOM students to reach out and be involved with the school and community.
