SOMA and Allies Club will be holding a card drive where students can create or donate handwritten cards with uplifting messages. The cards will be delivered to local nursing home residents to help brighten their days and remind them they are valued and remembered. A drop box labeled for card collections will be placed in the lobby where cards can be placed. Cards made will can be counted towards service hours(1 hour for 5 cards donated for a maximum of 2 hours/10 items). When donating cards, students should put their items in a bag clearly labeled with their name and year (MS1, MS2, etc.). Instagram Spread some kindness SOMA & Allies Club are hosting a Card Drive (April 6th–10th) to help brighten the days of local nursing home residents! You can make your cards and drop them off in the collection box located in the lobby. Cards can be counted towards volunteering with 5 cards = 1 hour of service (maximum of 2 hours total). Make sure to place your cards in a bag or clipped together clearly labeled with your name and year. A small card can make a big difference. Let’s come together to spread positivity, connection, and community!

Students will create teams of 3-5 prior to the event via Google forms and will have the opportunity to test and strengthen their microbiology knowledge among their peers. One of the goals of SNMA is to help create more socially and culturally conscious physicians and to include this goal, we will include bacterial and viral disease manifestations on both melanated and non-melanated skin within some of the question stems. This way students will be aware of how to identify how these organisms present physically on a range of skin colors. The event is open to both first and second year students and it will be a great prep material for the Final Micro Exam for first years as well as board prep for second years.

This would entail a week where each day there is an event to boost students' wellness. The events are as follows: Monthly meditation with Dr. Hendrix at the wellness center (Monday) Yoga at the wellness center (Tuesday as normally scheduled) PJ day (students who donate $5 will be able to wear PJs to school for a day, all donated funds will go to the psych floor at Millcreek community hospital) (Wednesday when students have OPP and are in OPP attire anyways for the afternoon) Succulent making in the Vora Lounge (Thursday at 6pm) Art + make your own tea sachet in the Vora Lounge (Friday at 6pm) To mitigate Covid risks, students will be asked to stay at home if they are sick. We will have a sign-up sheet for the meditation session as usual. Yoga will be first come first serve as usual at the wellness center and does not require any additional scheduling as it is already part of the weekly schedule at the wellness center. We are including yoga in hopes of getting students to use the wellness center more and increase attendance at the yoga classes. All money donated will be donated via Zelle to SGA. Upon sending their money, students will receive a virtual ticket they will have to show as they enter campus in their PJs. We are hoping to collect funds in order to give back to our LECOM community.
February 27, 2026 at 11:18 AMApprovedDO Day at the LECOM Senior Living CenterLECOM Med Erie - SGA02/27/202604/11/2026SGA, in collaboration with ACOS, the Family Medicine Club, and SSP, will host DO Day at the LECOM Senior Living Center (SLC) on April 11th, 2026 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Dr. Melodie Chludzinski will be present to oversee and support the event. From 1:00–3:00 PM, we will offer a Spa Day experience for residents. Two rounds of 12 participants (24 total) will rotate through this portion of the event. Residents will have the opportunity to soak their hands to gently remove existing nail polish, select a color of their choice, and receive fresh polish applied by student volunteers. Designed to be calming and restorative, the spa experience focuses on comfort, conversation, and individualized attention. Each participant will also receive a thoughtfully prepared goodie bag filled with self-care items, including sensitive-skin face masks, lotions, travel-size Vaseline and body wash, nail care items, nail polish, cuticle care supplies, and fuzzy socks; small comforts meant to extend the feeling of care beyond the event itself. From 3:00–5:00 PM, we will host Bingo, welcoming an estimated 40–50 residents. Students will assist and sit alongside residents as they play, helping to create a warm, engaging environment. Prizes will be distributed throughout the afternoon, and sugar-free snacks and beverages will be available during both portions of the event. This event is rooted in promoting wellness, relaxation, and meaningful social connection. The Spa Day offers therapeutic stress relief and personalized interaction, while Bingo fosters joy, laughter, and a sense of community among residents and LECOM students alike. Student volunteers will sign up in 2-hour blocks, with up to 30 volunteers per block (60 volunteers total). SGA will coordinate with ACOS, Family Medicine Club, and SSP to organize volunteers, manage setup, and ensure all supplies are prepared, allowing the day to run smoothly and create a positive, memorable experience for everyone involved.

A google form will be provided ahead of time for students to submit any questions they want to ask the presenters. This will be a great event for students to gain some insight from peers that very recently went through the process.

This event will give students opportunities to network and interact with physicians in the Erie area. Each physician and a group of students will get 5 to 10 minutes of Q/A time. We will provide general suggestion questions via email to students of possible topics to discuss with physicians. During this one-hour session at the cafeteria, students will ask physicians questions regarding their specialties. Physicians will be gifted Starbucks gift cards for their generous time (out of the SGA budget). We are in the process of contacting physicians. Covid Protocol: Maintain a log of attendees at the event for contact tracing if possible exposure occurs Students, attendees, and speed dating stations will maintain a social distance of 6 feet. The cafeteria tables will be sanitized during set up and closure of the event. Create a screening form for all members that sign up and require that they disclose any signs and symptoms, travel history, and close contact history prior to attending All attendees will be required to remain masked for the entirety of their time volunteering. August 16, 2024 at 7:38 PMApprovedMonthly Meditation WorkshopLECOM Med Erie - SGA08/16/202408/26/2024SGA would like to hold monthly meditation workshops led by Dr. Hendryx on the last Monday of every month at 6pm in the yoga room at the wellness center. The goal of this event is to contribute to the new "LECALM" initiative. We aim to provide a space for students to decompress and practice meditation techniques in hopes of improving mental health and wellness. Each month will feature a different type of meditation practice. Students will begin by learning about the meditation topic and then doing a group practice. Topics will be chosen by Dr. Hendryx. The first topic is "an introduction to meditation". It will cover benefits of meditation, goals of meditation, and different basic breathing techniques. Each session will be 30mins-1hr. Students will sign up via a google sheets form as to limit the number of students in the yoga room. The max number of students is 20. In terms of COVID risk mediation, students will be asked to not attend if they have any of the following symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat, headache, GI upset). Additionally, yoga mats will be adequately spaced out. The event will follow all wellness center protocol as instructed by Ms. Zemenak.

We are also hoping to have pizza from Virgil's Plate, estimated $28 per 24 cut pizza x 10 pizzas = $280, and water which we will buy in bulk from Sam's club, estimated $10 per 80 pack of water bottles X 4 = $40. The funding from both of these will come from our SGA funding. We are also requesting garbage bins or a dumpster for any waste from the food to be disposed of, if LECOM is able to provide these. We hope this event can allow everyone to get information about the clubs and begin pursuing their interests early in the semester! For the engraved frames for the class of 2024, the Class of 2024 Board has agreed to cover 20% of the cost, while SGA will cover the rest.
