Still and Chill with the SOMA BoardSOMA08/27/202409/18/2024SOMA wants to invite all of its members to take a relaxing break from studying and enjoy some ice cream. This event allows the Board and members from last year to meet new members and introduce them to all of the opportunities SOMA has to offer. Members will have the chance to make new friends and connections all while indulging in a sweet treat. We plan to use disposable dish wear and follow proper serving protocols to follow Covid Guidelines.March 29, 2021 at 2:08 PMApprovedSOMA Virtual Cooking NightSOMA03/29/202105/14/2021SOMA wants to encourage members to remain as interconnected as possible during COVID and foster meaningful relationships with their peers. Additionally, we want to provide ample opportunities to attend stress-relieving events and connect with the SOMA club. SOMA wants to host a Zoom Baking event as a social night for our members. This event will remain contactless, as members will be sent a list of ingredients prior, join a Zoom call held by SOMA, and follow along with the instructions provided by SOMA representatives. SOMA also wants to propose having the option to receive ingredients provided by us, as we can buy and pre package these ingredients. An RSVP will be sent out to the members, where they can let us know if they want to receive ingredients from us, and we will set up times that these members can stop by a predetermined location for a no-contact drop off. Based on the RSVP response from this, SOMA will be able to calculate the cost of this event based on the supplies purchased, currently approximated to be less than $100. For the first session, members attending will be able to vote on the baked goods that we cook during the event, and cost can be calculated.September 27, 2021 at 12:23 PMApprovedSchool Supplies DriveSOMA09/27/202110/11/2021SOMA wants to create a COVID-safe opportunity for students to get involved in the Erie community. Having this school supplies drive creates an event is a way for LECOM students to reach out and be involved with the school community. SOMA will be putting together a school supplies drive. This will be a contactless event, and we propose having collection boxes at the entrance to Main Campus. Students will be able to leave school supplies for collection. Supplies will be picked up at the end of the drive by myself or Co-Chair Ellie Schommer. We will advertise this event to the entire Class of 2024 and class of 2025 so they are able to participate. At the conclusion of the school drive, I will arrange a date and time to drop off the supplies to a school of SOMA’s choosing. This will be done in a contact-free manner. Due to recent idea of event creation, but still the desire to do something early in the school year, the dates are soon. If the event needs modification and isn't approved until after the dates proposed, dates will be moved accordingly.December 18, 2023 at 12:47 PMRejectedMMS Review NightsSOMA12/18/202301/12/2024SOMA students will lead review sessions to help guide students on study strategies as MMS students work through the rigor of LECOM curriculum. There was high attendance in the Fall Semester and MMS students have requested it again for the Spring. As MMS students work through the semester, SOMA students who are OMS1s/OMS2s will volunteer their time to host a short, virtual review of the material and high yield topics. SOMA students will coordinate review content with the faculty teaching the subject (i.e. Anatomy and Dr. Kulesza). One of our Pre-SOMA Co-Directors will double check material has been reviewed with the course director to ensure accuracy. This virtual review will allow MMS students to focus their studies over the weekend for their tests on the following Mondays and access to review materials used. These reviews will be virtual and held through through zoom. MMS students will be alerted through email and their Facebook group. This event will be completely virtual, and will follow all social distancing because of the virtual nature of the event, with no in-person assembly required.February 12, 2024 at 10:13 AMApprovedMMS Review NightsSOMA02/12/202402/23/2024SOMA students will lead review sessions to help guide students on study strategies as MMS students work through the rigor of LECOM curriculum. These sessions have been requested by first-year students. As first-years work their way through the systems curriculum of Basic and Clinical Neuroscience, OMS2s will host short, virtual review nights of the material and high yield topics. SOMA students will coordinate review content with Dr. Kulesza for the specific aspects of neuroanatomy as well as other faculty members for other content areas that are covered. These reviews will be held over Zoom, which will allow for social distancing because of the virtual nature of the event and no in-person assembly is required. SOMA members will be notified of review nights and it's corresponding review material via email. Our goal in doing so is to help bridge the gap that OMS1's have had with transitioning into more difficult content and systems.September 10, 2024 at 3:28 PMExpiredDiscussion Night: Gaza Polio OutbreakSOMA09/10/202410/23/2024SOMA Members will meet on Zoom and watch two videos (approximately 15 and 6 minutes respectively) regarding the Polio outbreak in Gaza. Dr. Hendryx has agreed to be in attendance for all workshops, and we have gained the support of Dr. Falk and other faculty to attend and contribute to these integrative medicine workshops as well.
