Dr. Hendryx has agreed to be in attendance for all workshops, and we have gained the support of Dr. Falk and other faculty to attend and contribute to these integrative medicine workshops as well. Our first workshop we hope to host is on September 23rd with Dr. Stephanie Esper where she plans to discuss healing with the elements and explaining the practice of using the five elements to diagnose and heal patients. Our goal is to expose our members to more methods of healing that branch from the traditional approach and more into the integrative field. This allows our members to become more well-rounded through the knowledge of different holistic practices.September 9, 2024 at 12:34 PMApprovedSOMA Integrative Medicine WorkshopsSOMA09/09/202409/23/2024SOMA is looking to host integrative medicine workshops open to all SOMA members throughout the semester on the third Monday of every month from 7:00pm to 8:00pm. The room has been reserved by Rebecca Banta. Dr. Stephany Esper will be speaking at the event by describing how individuals are matched with one of the five elements followed by explaining certain dysfunctions they can have within their element and how to treat those. While she explains, Dr. Hendryx has agreed to perform acupuncture on selected students of different elements so students can understand the practice better and receive exposure to the use of acupuncture. Our goal is to expose SOMA members to another method of healing different from traditional medicine with a more integrative, osteopathic focus. This will allow our members to expand their horizons and become more well-rounded through the knowledge of different holistic practices.March 18, 2024 at 3:06 PMApprovedRita's FundraiserSOMA03/18/202404/22/2024SOMA is looking to host a fundraiser at Rita's Italian Ice on April 22, 2024 from 5:00-8:00 pm. After speaking with Dr. Ferretti, we’re thrilled to bring her incredible idea to life: collaborating with local bakeries in Erie to showcase a variety of cultural desserts. This event will provide students with the chance to not only try delicious treats from local bakeries but also learn about the cultural backgrounds behind these baked goods. For just $5, students will receive a ticket to sample 3 desserts, while also getting the opportunity to socialize and connect with others. This is a fantastic way to support local businesses, celebrate cultural diversity, and bring the student community together! Through collaboration with Dr. Ferretti, who has contacted Mr. Dupree, there will be coffee and tea provided by the school as well as a table arrangement for the event. I have been advised by Ms. Spinazzola to submit this form with this note.April 2, 2021 at 9:46 PMApprovedVirtual Guided Meditation Event with Dr. HendryxSOMA04/02/202104/26/2021SOMA hopes to host a virtual guided meditation facilitated by Dr. Hendryx. This event will occur over Zoom in order to keep it as safe as possible. The event will be open to SOMA members, however, we are currently working with SAAO to potentially collaborate for this event, and in this case the event will also be open to SAAO members. We will all join the Zoom link and after a brief introduction by SOMA’s OPP director, Dr. Hendryx will lead us in a guided meditation. SOMA will send out a poll to members to see what date will work best for the most students using the dates Dr. Hendryx already approved. A date the week of April 26th - taking place completely virtually on the Zoom platform. SOMA wants to create a COVID-safe opportunity for students to experience this facet of OPP, and see how we can better implement this practice into our day-to-day lives. This is a great opportunity to learn a skill we were taught in OPP that we may not have tried out before and can hopefully inspire to students to further look into the other facets of integrative medicine we learned about during OPP lectures.November 1, 2018 at 7:50 AMApprovedHoliday Giving TreesSOMA11/01/201811/01/2018SOMA and The Mentoring Club partner to hold a Community gift drive to provide residents at the Senior Living Center, LECOM Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and local youth supported by the LECOM Mentoring Club with holiday gifts each year.
