Multiple second year representatives from each pathway (LDP, PBL, DSP/PCSP) will be present at the meeting to give advice to first years as they make the transition from anatomy to core classes. This will provide an opportunity for second year students to reflect on what study methods and approaches helped them to succeed in core, while also expressing which methods were not as successful. After a general welcome and overview, the club will go into breakout rooms in order to ask questions specific to each pathway, which will be led by the second-year representatives from each respective pathway.

The Internal Medicine Club will earn 15% of sales, which will help support club events and initiatives in the near future. Apparel can be ordered online at the link below once the event is approved, and the sale will last for approximately two weeks (ideally the last week of October and the first week of November). Once the sale has run for two weeks, the company will need approximately 2 weeks to fill the orders, and then the orders will be sent out. Orders can be directly shipped to those that place them, or there will be a group pick up option. For the group pick-up, people place their order online and then pick it up in the LECOM cafeteria a later date designated by the club. To do this, Sew Much More will drop off the group pick-up orders to the club's president, Sarah Centore, for the people that selected group pick-up. Sarah will then bring these orders into the school on a designated day after the orders have been given to us, and the club will distribute the remainder of the orders in the cafeteria. The group pick-up allows a more cost effective option for members who do not want to pay for shipping. The contact person from Sew Much More is Jody Centore. She will share her professional journey through LECOM, highlighting her academic pathway, clinical rotation experiences, and the factors that guided her decision to pursue a career in Internal Medicine. This presentation will be conducted via Zoom on 12/3/25 from 6:30-7:30 pm to offer valuable insight for students interested in Internal Medicine or seeking guidance in shaping their own medical careers.

The link will open for purchases on 8Aug and orders will be accepted through 22Aug. Payments are made through the Sportslocker store with a percentage returning to the IM Club. After all orders have been collected, they will be bulk shipped to campus, picked up by an IM Club Exec member, and distributed to purchasers in the cafeteria. Any items not distributed will be maintained by an IM Club Exec member until such a time as it can be successfully handed off. We have made no alterations to the previously approved apparel from last year’s sale. This event, held jointly over Zoom for both clubs, is open to all students interested in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, or Med-Peds who would like to learn more from the perspective of an attending physician.
March 13, 2025 at 9:43 PMApprovedErie VA Medical Center Bingo NightInternal Medicine Club03/13/202504/14/2025The Internal Medicine (IM) Club will be hosting a Bingo Night at the VA Hospital in collaboration with the Military Medicine Club. Members who have paid dues upon joining either club are eligible to sign up as volunteers for this event. The event is scheduled for Monday, April 14th, from 6:00 to 7:00 PM. The VA Hospital has requested that we limit participation to 4 volunteers. Two individuals will manage the bingo stand, while the other two will assist on the floor by checking bingo cards and ensuring a smooth experience for participants. For prizes, we plan to distribute $2 cash to each winner. Currently, this is a one-time event; however, if successful, we hope to establish it as a recurring event on a weekly, biweekly, or monthly basis, depending on the hospital's capacity. Any event-related concerns should be directed to Natalie Woznicki, Recreation Therapist at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, who played a key role in organizing the event and will be providing guidance. Additionally, at least one executive board member—President Pietro Elliott, Vice President Sanjana Dasari, Secretary Elle McGregor, or Treasurer Lucas Nguyen—will be present to ensure the event runs smoothly.

Our Guest Speaker is Dr. Robert Bowers, who is a retired surgeon and have been involved with medical missionary trips in Africa and Bangladesh for 40 years. For this Guest Speaker Event, Dr. Bowers will give a PowerPoint presentation via Zoom to share with us his medical experiences overseas. This will be a great opportunity for medical students to gain insight of healthcare outside of the U.S as well as becoming more well-rounded in regards to patient care. In addition, students will have the opportunity to ask Dr. Bowers any questions they may have regarding international healthcare.

Students will engage in thought-provoking activities, will learn about the populations that they will be serving, and have the opportunity for questions and discussion in a safe environment. We hope this training session provides a foundation and framework for students to begin their journeys in developing their understanding of diversity, inclusion, and cross-cultural appreciation.

The first aim is to introduce our SOMA chapter constituents to resolution writing, and the process of advocacy possible to members enlisted in SOMA. This will entail a mock writing session centered around a light-hearted topic, overseen by SOMA Chapter Leaders, which may help spark debate and conversation, so that processes of argumentative writing are established, and constituents understand how and why we write resolutions in the set format. The second aim of this event is to initiate conversation between students to help establish comradery between incoming first year medical students, and between classes, so that we may help facilitate an idealism that truly, Osteopathic Medicine is a community.

Customers must show the promotional flier for their purchase to go toward the fundraiser. Customers can also order on the Chipotle app using a promotional code. 33% of the revenue generated will be donated to the club. Proceeds will help us purchase reading glasses, which will be donated to the LECOM Senior Living Center. I am in contact with Jaime Babiak (Director of Operations) and she says there is a need for about 150 pairs of reading glasses for residents and patients across their various facilities.

Materials are club provided and instruction is available for all students who wish to join. A donation amount is still being determined.

We will be hosting a Halloween celebration at the senior living center on October 31st from 3:30-6:30pm. Residents of the center who wish to participate will be encouraged to paint a pumpkin, play soft pumpkin/ring toss, and trick or treat around the atrium with booths created and staffed by LECOM club members. Invitations are being sent to different clubs currently and if necessary, the event can be downsized or upsized depending on student response and we are working with the recreation coordinator at the SLC to verify activities are acceptable for all residents who wish to join.
