We polled students on what sort of events they would enjoy, and this was high on the list. We would provide TVs and Nintendo Switch consoles for students to hang out, play some games, and have some pizza. LECOM would provide the space for the event and pizza. I would need some further guidance on viable locations for the event, but even the cafeteria would be a functional location if there are no other suitable options. Overall budget would be $100 for pizza and water. Everything else is provided by students.August 25, 2022 at 2:01 PMCancelledInternational Coastal Clean UpSAOAO08/25/202209/17/2022This event is an opportunity to give back to the local community here in Erie. Building off of the Wilderness Medicine Club's first aid kit sale, it is common to carry a tourniquet alongside your kit for dire circumstances. Current research shows the significant decrease in traumatic mortality when a tourniquet is applied to uncontrollable extremity bleeds. We hope that by running this fundraiser our students will be safer and better prepared for the unforeseen circumstances that have unfortunately become all too common in today's day and age. The cost for each unit will be at most will be $29.99; however depending on number we are looking at ordering in bulk to reduce cost for our students. As requested by Dr. Ferretti, we will be having a mandatory training for anyone who was selected as a Big for SOMA's Big/Little program. We will have Dr. Kevin Klauer give a talk for the first hour (a separate event request has been submitted for this!), and then we will take the second hour (this event request) to cover the overview of the Big program. We will be instructing Bigs on what to do and what not to do, what advice to share with their littles, and what topics to avoid as they are out of our scope as Bigs. The agenda for the meeting will be developed with Dr. Lee, who will be in attendance for the training to ensure we have appropriate faculty oversight. We feel this is an important event to have in person, which is why we have requested reserving Lecture Hall D. We will require all attendees to wear masks, and will practice appropriate social distancing, and follow all other COVID protocols. Attendance will be taken, and a post-event recap will be sent to Dr. Shabloski when the event is complete.August 18, 2022 at 5:52 PMRejectedSOMA's Big TrainingSOMA08/18/202209/09/2022This event has already been discussed with Dr. Lee and Dr. Thielman! The conference is organized and run by medical students from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry Student National Medical Association (SNMA) and has been a huge success over the past years. This year is no exception and we are expecting another 300 students to visit our school for the day. The conference will be Saturday February 2nd, 2019 from 8 AM until 3:00PM PM. The event will include interactive learning modules, meet-and-greet with physicians and medical students, as well as a keynote address by Dr. Ian Wilson, a diagnostic radiologist and alumnus of the Univ. of Rochester. http://www.ursnma.org/March 11, 2020 at 2:46 PMRejectedErie Seawolves GameMentoring03/11/202005/01/2020The YMCA and the LECOM Mentoring Club are attending an Erie Seawolves game in order to continue forming lasting relationships with local school-aged children and to give these children an experience to remember!
