Event request: SOMA, in collaboration with the Military Medicine Club, will host a VA Prize Donation Drive from September 14–25. SOMA enjoys volunteering at the local VA, where students spend time engaging with veterans through activities such as Bingo, Blackjack, Trivia, and other games. This donation drive will collect new items to be used as prizes for veterans who participate in these activities. Each item is worth .5 service hours, with a maximum of 2 hours.
Suggested donations include soft candy, playing cards, coffee mugs and tumblers, toiletries and self-care items, hats, gloves, socks, gift cards, and other small new prize items. A collection bin will be placed in the lobby of the Main Building for the duration of the drive.
The goal of this event is to support SOMA’s ongoing involvement with local veterans while encouraging LECOM students to give back to the veteran community. Having a supply of prizes helps make our visits more engaging and enjoyable for the veterans while providing another way for students to show their appreciation for those who have served.
