This video has been reviewed and approved by Dr. Laton, and he will also be moderating the event and leading discussions about the video. This event will take place in the OPP lab. We hope this event will be a great way to bring awareness to students regarding sensitive topics, and hopefully provide them with tools and resources they can take with them in their future career as physicians. March 11, 2026 at 2:05 PMApprovedUltrasound WorkshopEmergency Medicine03/11/202604/15/2026We would like to give our members the opportunity to participate in an ultrasound workshop led by Dr. John R. Queen Jr., MD, from Cleveland, Ohio. This event will be held on a Wednesday evening to introduce EM members on how to use an ultrasound effectively. At the event, Dr. Queen will give a presentation on the importance of high-quality ultrasound techniques, including a live demonstration. Following the presentation, members will have a hands-on opportunity to practice using ultrasound equipment themselves. This event will give our members the chance to interact with one another while being introduced to a valuable clinical skill. All ultrasound equipment for the interactive activity, as well as food served before the presentation, will be provided by Dr. Queen. An email with an Excel sign-up sheet will be sent to Emergency Medicine Club members, with a maximum of 25 students allowed to sign up. Students will adhere to all current regulations set by LECOM. Our club advisor, Dr. Risavi, has approved the event and will be in attendance. This event will be held on Wednesday, April 15th, in the OPP Lab from 6 pm to 8 pm.
March 9, 2026 at 5:05 PMApprovedThe Great Erie Bake OffAllies03/09/202604/28/2026Overview: This fundraising event will bring the bakers of our medical school together to compete to win a prize! With the submitted baked goods, we will have students pay $4 to “judge” the desserts and we will count up the votes and crown a winner of each category! This event is in collaboration with SOMA and Mental Health Task force so all costs and will be split between the groups and money raised will be split between SOMA and Allies. Details: We will have students sign up to bake for a chance to win a $15 Lucky Bean (local coffee shop) giftcard in their category. There will be four categories: Brownies, cookies, cupcakes, and gluten free (which can be anything as long as it’s gluten free). We are capping each category at 10 submissions, although we don’t expect this many bakers. A baker will sign up to bake 1 dozen of their chosen item and submit it to the tables set up in the cafeteria by 7:45AM on April 28th (Day of the event). We are requesting two tables in the back of the cafeteria on April 28th to be used the whole day. The bakers cannot use any tree nuts to avoid common allergens. The baked items submitted will be cut into 4 pieces. (ex. Typical size brownie will be cut into 4 pieces or cupcake cut into 4 pieces). This is so each judge can try potentially 10 of their baked item category. The baked goods will be on the back tables from 7:45am till the event starts at lunch. They will be covered with a sign saying it’s for this event. The actual event will begin at 11:30AM and end at 12:50PM so both the first and second years and any faculty can participate in judging. The judging form will include: name, category judging, rate 1-5 for taste, appearance, texture, and the “IT factor” for each baked good in the category, and “have you paid $4 cash or Venmo”. Any student can pay $4 to “judge” the competition and will pick one category to judge. For instance, a student can judge the cupcake category. They will pay 4$ and receive a judgement form and ¼ of each cupcake submitted. They will try each one and rate each cupcake they try out of 5 in the following “taste, appearance, texture, the “IT factor”. They will then submit the form back to Allies member manning the table. If a student wants to judge multiple categories, they will pay $4 for each category they’d like to judge. The form has check marks to ensure no negativity can be written in and it’s purely a number value. The ultimate rankings will be private and only the winner of each category will be announced publicly the following day. A member of the Allies club will be manning the tables the entire event to collect the money, hand out judgment forms, and ensure judgement forms are submitted back. Our club supervisor will be present. Allies will be providing forks, knives, plates, tablecloths, and napkins as to not disrupt the cafeterias supply. The cafeteria’s operations will be unaffected by this event as all items will come from this club directly. Allies will be ensuring the tables are maintained and clean up entirely when this event concludes. Any leftover baked goods will stay on the back tables covered up with a descriptive sign until class is out at 5pm to be picked up. Any left food items will be taken away by Allies Club as to ensure a proper cleanup. The attached flier, when approved, will be printed and hung in the locker room to advertise for baker submissions and spread awareness for students to judge the event.

We ill send out a good form for any students or faculty members to fill out their order and then we will bring the orders to the cafeteria to distribute on April 7th from 3-5:30 pm. It's an event that will help the students treat themselves during a stressful week and the time aligned with all 3 pathways.
March 9, 2026 at 3:59 PMApprovedInternational Trauma and Life Support Training CertificationACOS-MSS03/09/202607/30/2026LECOM ACOS-MSS is excited to provide members an opportunity to obtain an International Trauma Life Support Certification. Dr. Risavi will be leading the event which will consist of several lectures as well as hands-on skills stations with a practical assessment at the end. This is an opportunity for members to obtain hands-on experience and to learn new skills that are essential for any specialty. The training covers vitals trauma skills such as trauma assessment, neck and spine stabilization, and airway stabilization. Additionally, this certification is similar to a certification that is required during Emergency Medicine and General Surgery residency (advanced trauma life support), allowing members to gain valuable knowledge on information for the future. This certification and skillset will contribute to developing students into well-rounded physicians and add to their unique resume during residency interviews. This will be an amazing opportunity to allow students to gain hands-on experience and knowledge, while also being able to obtain a certification. The ITLS certification will last all members 3 years. Members who decide to participate will need to purchase and read ITLS for Emergency Care Providers – 9th edition from VitalSource or Amazon. Additionally, the certification itself will cost approximately $30. The anticipated event will be held on the following dates and times: July 30th: 5:30pm - 10pm July 31st: 7:30am - 5pm August 1st: 7:30am - 3pm As there are multiple skills stations and lectures, we are requesting lecture hall A in addition to the OPP lab to be reserved on the second floor. We will work with Dr. Kalmey’s office to ensure that the training does not overlap with the MS1 orientation. Our advisor, Dr. Risavi will be present. There will also be several other clinicians to assist Dr. Risavi with the event and help administer the practicals. We are capping the participation at 25 students to allow for a meaningful experience for all.

We plan to sell the jackets at a low profit to keep them affordable for all students and we plan to sell to all years and staff at LECOM. We plan on using the official LECOM logo as provided in the portal on the jacket. The Patagonia Jacket Fundraiser will help our club accumulate funds to use this coming school year on any events that we plan on hosting. We have already contacted Patagonia and they are happy to help us with this event.

February 27, 2026 at 11:18 AMApprovedDO Day at the LECOM Senior Living CenterLECOM Med Erie - SGA02/27/202604/11/2026SGA, in collaboration with ACOS, the Family Medicine Club, and SSP, will host DO Day at the LECOM Senior Living Center (SLC) on April 11th, 2026 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Dr. Melodie Chludzinski will be present to oversee and support the event. From 1:00–3:00 PM, we will offer a Spa Day experience for residents. Two rounds of 12 participants (24 total) will rotate through this portion of the event. Residents will have the opportunity to soak their hands to gently remove existing nail polish, select a color of their choice, and receive fresh polish applied by student volunteers. Designed to be calming and restorative, the spa experience focuses on comfort, conversation, and individualized attention. Each participant will also receive a thoughtfully prepared goodie bag filled with self-care items, including sensitive-skin face masks, lotions, travel-size Vaseline and body wash, nail care items, nail polish, cuticle care supplies, and fuzzy socks; small comforts meant to extend the feeling of care beyond the event itself. From 3:00–5:00 PM, we will host Bingo, welcoming an estimated 40–50 residents. Students will assist and sit alongside residents as they play, helping to create a warm, engaging environment. Prizes will be distributed throughout the afternoon, and sugar-free snacks and beverages will be available during both portions of the event. This event is rooted in promoting wellness, relaxation, and meaningful social connection. The Spa Day offers therapeutic stress relief and personalized interaction, while Bingo fosters joy, laughter, and a sense of community among residents and LECOM students alike. Student volunteers will sign up in 2-hour blocks, with up to 30 volunteers per block (60 volunteers total). SGA will coordinate with ACOS, Family Medicine Club, and SSP to organize volunteers, manage setup, and ensure all supplies are prepared, allowing the day to run smoothly and create a positive, memorable experience for everyone involved.

The order will be a bulk order, shipped to the school and then be dispersed to the students. SOMA and Allies Club will be holding a card drive where students can create or donate handwritten cards with uplifting messages. The cards will be delivered to local nursing home residents to help brighten their days and remind them they are valued and remembered. A drop box labeled for card collections will be placed in the lobby where cards can be placed. Cards made will can be counted towards service hours(1 hour for 5 cards donated for a maximum of 2 hours/10 items). When donating cards, students should put their items in a bag clearly labeled with their name and year (MS1, MS2, etc.). You can make your cards and drop them off in the collection box located in the lobby. Cards can be counted towards volunteering with 5 cards = 1 hour of service (maximum of 2 hours total). This event will be held on a Saturday afternoon. At the event, students will have the opportunity to participate and interact with others through friendly volleyball matches. While volleyball is being played, the Spanish Medical Club will provide a courtside activity where students can practice labeling common anatomical features in Spanish. All equipment for the interactive activity and volleyball will be provided by the three participating clubs. An email with an Excel sign-up sheet will be sent to Spanish Medical Club, Research Club, and Family Medicine Club members, with a maximum of 30 students allowed to sign up. Students will adhere to all current regulations set by LECOM. Our club advisor, Dr. Labranche, has approved of the event and will be in attendance. This event will be held on Saturday, April 18th, from 2 pm to 5 pm at Beach 6 at Presque Isle State Park.

Donations will be collected from April 6th to April 10th from 8 am to 5 pm. A drop off box clearly labeled “SAAO-CMDA Food Drive” will be placed on one of the tables in the front entrance. Any LECOM student can donate; they will receive volunteer hours for it (0.5 hours for 1 item donated for a maximum of 2 hours/4 items) They should put their items in a bag clearly labeled with their name and year (MS1, MS2, etc.). These dropoff boxes will be routinely checked to ensure that there is no overflow. Drop off of goods will be arranged with Madison Maurice (mmaurice@nwpafoodbank.org) at the Food Bank. These donations will go to members of our community, and we hope that this provides a meaningful way for students to give back to those in need and impact the community in a positive way.

The dates of distribution will be on March 19th for MS2s (10 AM) and March 26th for MS1s (9:30 AM). Both will be conducted in case room 117 prior to the student group’s review sessions, and Dr. McCarthy will be in attendance during distribution on both days to maintain oversight. During that time of the semester, MS2’s will begin to enter the brunt of their Board studying while MS1s will have begun Neuroanatomy. Board prep and starting a new system can be stress inducing experiences. The wellness items, which include candles, tea bags, face masks, and stress toys, will help alleviate that stress and allow students to continue to put their best foot forward.

The speaker event will be one hour in length and will consist mostly of a description of the match into PM&R, Sports medicine fellowship, and day to day practice as a PM&R sports medicine physician. It will be held in person in one of the LECOM Fitness Center Conference rooms.
