WHO: YogaErie Instructors and LECOM students WHAT: A 60 minute yoga class; $10/ student. All funds will go to Lydia's Love Moments to raise money for children at Ronald McDonald's House. WHERE: LECOM Wellness Center Gymnasium. All yogies will be positioned 6 feet apart and be instructed to bring their own mat or towel. All students will check in and sign a liability waiver if not a member already prior to class beginning, wearing a mask. Once on the mat and ready to start class 6 feet apart, they will be allowed to remove their mask for the duration of the workout. Once class is over, masks will be put back on promptly. WHEN: Saturday, December 3 at 9:30-10:30am WHY: As DO medical students, we know how important it is to exercise and keep our hearts healthy. While raising money for children in need of healthcare, we thought this would be a great way to get actively involved in our fundraiser while also benefitting our student body. Yoga Erie has graciously offered us a class and we feel it would form a great relationship between YogaErie and LECOM while helping support a beautiful cause. We feel that hosting an event at our own location would be easy and convenient for LECOM students, and a great way to utilize our facilities. If there is an issue with hosting at lecom wellness center, we will look into having the event at YogaErie's studio. Thank you!March 11, 2024 at 12:05 PMApprovedYoga NightLECOM Med Erie - SGA03/11/202404/16/2024Yoga night held at the LECOM Wellness Center on 4/16 from 5-6pmOctober 19, 2018 at 3:37 PMApprovedYMCA Blood Pressure ScreeningInternal Medicine Club11/11/201811/11/2018Internal Medicine Club would like to host a blood pressure screening event with YMCA Glenwood on 11/11/2018 from 10AM to 12PM. As future primary care physicians, blood pressure is one of the most crucial vital signs to monitor. Blood pressure is one of the most important screenings because high blood pressure usually has no symptoms so it can’t be detected without being measured. High blood pressure greatly increases your risk of heart disease and stroke. If your blood pressure is below 120/80 mm Hg, be sure to get it checked at least once every two years, starting at age 20. If your blood pressure is higher, your doctor may want to check it more often. High blood pressure can be controlled through lifestyle changes and/or medication. Internal Medicine Club hopes to host monthly blood pressure screenings in order to bring awareness and promote preventative health screenings under the help of LECOM students.September 27, 2023 at 1:07 PMApprovedYasmine SaikaliLECOM Med Erie - SGA09/27/202310/16/2023Yoga night at the LECOM wellness center on October 16th at 6:00pm.October 16, 2025 at 8:44 AMApprovedWrite to a Senior ProgramSOMA10/16/202511/01/2025We will be coordinating with Dr. Melodie and partnering with the senior living center to create a monthly letter exchange between students and senior residents. Each month will feature a different theme (such as Fall, Winter, New Year, Spring, Hobbies, etc.), and participants can write letters or short notes related to that theme. The letters won’t be addressed to a specific person—instead, they’ll be shared for anyone at the senior center to read or pick up, and we’ll receive letters in return for students to enjoy as well. This ongoing exchange will be a fun and meaningful way to build intergenerational connections and spread kindness throughout the year.December 3, 2025 at 2:42 PMExpiredWorld AIDS Day Quilt Making & RemembranceFamily Medicine Club12/03/202512/10/2025The family medicine club will be hosting the annual World AIDS Day quilt making 12/10/25 in the Vora Lounge. Ex: 20 spaces for people to sign up for pacifiers/Wubbanub, 20 spaces for people to sign up for rattles, etc. This will ensure we have equal materials for each basket being donated. We will set up a collection box in LECOM's front office during the week so students can drop off their donated items. We wanted to hold a box by security in the front lobby for the week of March 20 - March 24th. Then the following week on March 27th we would like to hold an event at LECOM, where members would put the baskets together for the NICU and deliver them to Grady's Decision non-profit for distribution. In addition we where hoping to have an in-person (or zoom) event with Ryan Smith to come and talk about his experience of giving these gifts and what it means to the patients family. I think this would be amazing for the students to see their impact on the patients and where their donations are actually going.
