March 16, 2023 at 11:37 PMApprovedCommunity of Caring Donation DriveSpanish Medical Club03/16/202304/10/2023What Is The Volunteer Event: The Medical Spanish Club has recently been in contact with the Community of Caring, which is a wonderful human services agency in Erie, PA, providing shelter and resources for people experiencing homelessness. The CoC is in constant need of everyday items that are provided for the residents at their emergency shelters. Thus, the Medical Spanish Club is hoping to sponsor a donation drive for our club members and other LECOM students to participate in to provide the CoC with a surplus of goods for those in need. When This Will Occur: We are looking to collect donation items throughout the week of April 10-14th. A collection box will be placed inside the security office during this 5-day time period for students to drop off their donation items are their convenience. Angelina Stone, the President of the MSC, will then plan to drop off the donated items to the CoC on that following Saturday, April 15th. Advertisement: An email will be sent out by Dr. Shabloski on behalf of the MSC to MS1s, MS2s, and faculty. The email will contain a short excerpt of the purpose of this donation drive, the drop off dates, and a google spreadsheet to sign up. The signup sheet will display the desired items to be donated to the CoC, and students and faculty will be able to put their name down for what they would be able to provide. We will be offering 0.5 volunteer hours per product, with a cap at 2 volunteer hours per student. Volunteers/Participants: The google document will then give the MSC a headcount on the total number of participants of this donation drive. On April 14th, the end of the collection period, the items donated will be counted by MSC cabinet members in order to confirm the amount donated correlates relative to the number of items expected per the signup sheet. COVID Mitigation Plan: Since all donation items will be collected in a box within the Security Office on LECOM property, all students donating must keep within LECOM’s current COVID guidelines. As of now, students donating are required to wear face masks. Additionally, when Angelina Stone, MSC President, donates the items to the CoC on April 15th, she will be required to wear a face mask in order to abide by the school’s COVID guidelines as well. Our Primary Contact at the CoC: If there are any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to the interim director of the CoC, Chris Tombaugh, at (814)-456-6661.
