August 15, 2023 at 11:06 AMApprovedDonation Drive for SafeNetFamily Medicine Club08/15/202310/01/2023We would like to give our members the opportunity to participate in a donation drive to benefit the organization SafeNet. SafeNet provides support to people impacted by domestic violence. They need items such as welcome teddy bears for children, clothing, toiletries, etc. We will run a donation drive that allows members to donate to this critical organization and support the community. The drive involves students signing up on an excel spreadsheet for the items they would like to donate from October 1st- 13th. We would then provide a bin for the students to drop off their donations from October 16th- 20th. The donation bin will be left near the security office, and emptied as it fills to ensure enough space for donations to be left in the bin. For participating in the drive we will offer 1 service hour for every 2 items a student donates, with each student able to earn a maximum of 2 service hours. Students will be dropping off donations to the bin located in the LECOM building and therefore adhere to LECOM COVID mitigation policies. All correspondence for the event will be done through email and E-Board members will drop off the items to SafeNet at 1702 French Street in Erie once the drive is over. January 12, 2024 at 10:05 AMApprovedDonation Drive for Mental Health Association of NW PennsylvaniaNeuropsych Club01/12/202402/12/2024I would like to organize a donation drive for the Mental Health Association (MHA) of NW Pennsylvania with collections lasting for two weeks: Monday 2-12-24 to Friday 2-23-24. Many of the clients at MHA are unhoused individuals and with the coming winter months it is more important than ever to get these folks what they need to endure. Approximately 25-30% of unhoused people face serious mental health or substance use disorders (1). I believe this to be a good opportunity to help out a population of people that we as future practitioners will invariably treat; from the Psychiatrist's office to the ER. MHA has a premade flier asking for socks, underwear, and T-shirts which you will find attached. I would like to expand the scope of the drive to any usable winter gear that people may be willing to donate. Our point of contact at MHA is Mary Sackett (814-452-4462 ext. 132, MSACKETT@mhanp.org) and she has expressed that any little bit will help. For students that donate I would like to provide them with the maximum number of volunteer hours that is appropriate for such an event: 0.5 hrs per item, with a max of 2 hours. Contactless drop-off, while collecting items and while dropping them off will be our COVID mitigation strategy. 1: Padgett DK. They will earn more points the further they go and the amount of days they are active. They can also earn points if they make a facebook post and tag our club on facebook. This is an individual, socially distanced, and completely virtual competition. We will hold a raffle for some running gear at the end using online software to fairly determine the winners based off the number of points they earned. The spreadsheet is based off the honor system and we will max out points for miles at 20 to prevent excess time devoted and those that run a lot. Students who participate will be encouraged to be active but in a socially distanced manner, and there is no event where students are meeting in person.

October 2, 2024 at 7:20 PMApprovedDiwali Celebration Volunteering EventMentoring10/02/202410/23/2024Background information: Diwali, or Dipawali, is India's biggest and most important holiday of the year. The festival gets its name from the row (avali) of clay lamps (deepa) that Indians light outside their homes to symbolize the inner light that protects from spiritual darkness. This festival is as important to Hindus as the Christmas holiday is to Christians. It is celebrated over 5 days with events ranging from decorating homes, feasting, fireworks, and gifts. In celebration of Diwali, APAMSA is requesting to host a volunteer event in collaboration with the Mentoring Club. At this volunteer event, volunteers from both APAMSA and the Mentoring Club will organize and execute several activities for the children at the Erie Kids Club. The event aims to introduce the children to the rich cultural traditions of Diwali through various engaging activities. The activities for the children will be Henna art where volunteers will apply traditional Henna to the children's hands, Rangoli art where children will be guided by volunteers to decorate the blacktop with chalk to make traditional Rangoli patterns, and paper lantern crafting where volunteers will assist children in making decorative paper lanterns. APAMSA will provide all necessary supplies for this event. APAMSA and Mentoring Club volunteers will be responsible for set up and clean up at the Kids Club. A permission slip will be distributed to the children ahead of time, ensuring that parents are informed and consent to their child's participation in the activities. All participants will undergo a background check beforehand using the following links: https://epatch.pa.gov/home and https://www.compass.state.pa.us/CWIS/Public/Home No child will be left alone with a volunteer.
September 20, 2022 at 10:39 AMApprovedDiwaliAPAMSA09/20/202210/20/2022Diwali, or Dipawali, is India's biggest and most important holiday of the year. The festival gets its name from the row (avali) of clay lamps (deepa) that Indians light outside their homes to symbolize the inner light that protects from spiritual darkness. The event would be held most likely at Hammocks clubhouse. There will be traditional indian snacks, music, and activities to symbolize the holiday. COVID Mitigation plan: 1. All participants will be required to wear masks 2. When eating people will be required to remain 6 feet away when taking off their masks 3. If people do not feel well or feel like they have a fever they will be requested not to come. 4. There will be an attendance sheet in place for people to sign in, in a case that contact tracing would be required. Veronica Li will be the contact person for the set up and tear down the the event. Dr. Razzaque has been contacted to attend the event. Since this is a public clubhouse for Hammocks residents, no confirmation is needed to book the area since it's a public space that rarely ever occupied. There will be light refreshments and snacks so nothing significant is happening to require any proper reservation of the area.

April 4, 2022 at 10:26 AMApprovedDiversity in Medicine Roundtable DiscussionSOMA04/04/202204/20/2022After our monthly meeting, SOMA would like to host a roundtable discussion with SNMA and APAMSA clubs. This event will include questions created by our Diversity Chair, Rucha, in order to promote discussion about the problems in medicine regarding diversity. This topic is very important to us as an advocacy group, and we take pride in knowing that we can make a difference in the lives of future patients who may face adversity. Without going into hospitals extensively yet, we have not been able to experience the diversity we will experience when we are practicing. SOMA Is hoping that this roundtable discussion will welcome conversations and open discussion about diversity and how we as future physicians can better promote this in our fields. We aim to do this in a nonjudgemental safe space. The SOMA monthly meeting will conclude at 7:00 or earlier, and then this roundtable discussion will take place. Participants will be encouraged to follow COVID safety protocols, and all unvaccinated individuals will be required to wear a mask. Attendance will be taken at this event with a Google Form submitted prior by each participant.
