Google forms will be sent out in advance to collect information on those purchasing bags during the week of April 16-20th. These bags will then be distributed at lunch on 4/24/24 . These bags will include bone-shaped pens, a sweet treat, and Earth Day stickers. Treats will accommodate possible allergies. All funds earned from the event will be utilized to help replenish the club funds as our new e-board, which will further be used for future events & replenishment of their sport equipment.
April 15, 2024 at 10:57 AMApprovedDynamic Minds: A Talk with Dr. StillmanNeuropsych Club04/15/202405/06/2024NeuroPsych Club would like to host a meeting with Dr. Belinda Stillman for an hour of answering questions and sharing her experience as a board certified Psychiatrist. Dr. Stillman received her medical degree and Master of Health Services Administration from LECOM and completed her residency at Millcreek Community Hospital. She is an adjunct clinical assistant professor at LECOM and an attending physician at MCH, working closely with resident physicians in psychiatry. Dr. Stillman currently works through LECOM at: -Millcreek Community Hospital -LECOM Institute for Behavioral Health -Barber Forensic -Erie Homes for Children and Adults -LECOM's 8 long-term care facilities (assisted living, skilled nursing, and secure memory care) -LECOM's Medical Cannabis Research for Generalized Anxiety and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Because of her history as a LECOM alumni and her current work experience in multiple aspects of psychiatry, Dr. Stillman is the ideal speaker as the first year medical students transition into summer. A conversation with her would give students food for thought on how they should invest in their clinical careers in the following months and beyond. Prior to the event we will open up a google document so students can pose questions for Dr. Belinda Stillman D.O. to answer. The event will be hosted over Zoom, with a link to the meeting emailed a week in advance.

We will purchase chocolate sauce and pistachio cream from Amazon and strawberries from Tops. The cups will be self assembled by 2 members of the Simulation Club Eboard in the Vora Lounge, which takes less than a minute to do so.
February 20, 2026 at 1:41 PMApprovedDSP/PCSP: Goodie Bags GaloreMental Health Task Force02/20/202603/19/2026The Mental Health Task Force is eager to provide goodie bags containing wellness items for MS1 and MS2 students in the DSP and PCSP pathways. The dates of distribution will be on March 19th for MS2s (10 AM) and March 26th for MS1s (9:30 AM). Both will be conducted in case room 117 prior to the student group’s review sessions, and Dr. McCarthy will be in attendance during distribution on both days to maintain oversight. During that time of the semester, MS2’s will begin to enter the brunt of their Board studying while MS1s will have begun Neuroanatomy. Board prep and starting a new system can be stress inducing experiences. The wellness items, which include candles, tea bags, face masks, and stress toys, will help alleviate that stress and allow students to continue to put their best foot forward.

We will be selling waterproof ‘survival bags’ which will contain items such as an emergency blanket, cold pack, whistle, bandages, flashlight, etc. This bag will make a nice gift for student’s family members to keep on hand for daily emergencies, it will also be great for students to keep in their cars to be better prepared for everyday life. Our club advisor, Dr. Risavi, is on board with the event and we will be using the updated and approved LECOM logo. Since this is an online sale, all correspondence will be done over email via a spreadsheet. We will do marketing via social media to promote the sale and masks will be worn on the day of distribution in concordance with the school’s COVID mitigation plan. The sale will take place from August 7th – September 7th 2023 over email. Each bag will cost 50 dollars and Distribution will occur in the Fall. We will use the Vora Lounge to distribute orders after all have been placed & fulfilled.

She specializes in hand and wrist surgery as well as a variety of other surgical areas. Her experience in the operating room and as the director of medical student clerkships will allow her to provide a unique experience to the ACOS members. She will be sharing her journey throughout medical school, residency, fellowship and now as an attending at Robert Wood University Hospital. There will also be a Q&A portion of the event at the end of the talk. Educational purpose: the educational purpose of this event is to provide a first-hand perspective on plastics and reconstructive surgery as some students may not have been exposed to this specialty yet. This will be a fantastic opportunity to allow students to engage with and learn from a practicing hand surgeon. COVID mitigation protocols: this meeting will be held on zoom.

Students will prepare questions to ask Dr. Rapkin ahead of time via a google form, and the Pediatrics and Oncology clubs will have other general questions prepared ahead of time, as well. We will be asking Dr. Rapkin about his journey to becoming a physician, including: medical school, residency, fellowship, as well as his time in his respective specialty of Pediatric Hematology Oncology.

He received his medical degree from Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine at University of Pikeville, completed residency at Michigan State University Genesys Regional Medical Center; Grand Blanc, MI in Internal Medicine. Then, he completed his fellowship at Michigan State University Genesys Regional Medical Center; Grand Blanc, MI in Hematology and Oncology. Dr. Harris is going to speak to club members about his path to Internal Medicine and Hem/Onc. He will also be answering questions including but not limited to medical school, residency, fellowships, or any other general questions the students may have! The event itself will be happening on November 7th at 6:00pm via Zoom.
