I believe that this event would be a great chance for club members to come out and support the greater Erie community as well as help educate the public on a pertinent disease that we will be encountering in both our didactic and clinical education. The fundraiser walk will be located at Perry Square on Saturday September 21, 2024. Volunteers will help with set-up, passing out refreshments, help with advocacy efforts, promise garden flowers, and cheer along walk participants. The volunteering period will span from 7:30am - 11am. Participating volunteers will also receive a free t-shirt.July 27, 2025 at 12:08 AMExpiredErie Walk to End Alzheimer'sNeuropsych Club07/27/202509/20/2025Sara Giammarise, the Senior Director of Development of the Greater PA chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, recently inquired if LECOM’s NeuroPsych Club could provide volunteer support for the yearly Erie Walk to End Alzheimer's fundraiser event. Members who have paid dues upon joining either club are eligible to sign up as volunteers for this event. The event is scheduled for Monday, April 14th, from 6:00 to 7:00 PM. The VA Hospital has requested that we limit participation to 4 volunteers. Two individuals will manage the bingo stand, while the other two will assist on the floor by checking bingo cards and ensuring a smooth experience for participants. For prizes, we plan to distribute $2 cash to each winner. Currently, this is a one-time event; however, if successful, we hope to establish it as a recurring event on a weekly, biweekly, or monthly basis, depending on the hospital's capacity. Any event-related concerns should be directed to Natalie Woznicki, Recreation Therapist at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, who played a key role in organizing the event and will be providing guidance. Additionally, at least one executive board member—President Pietro Elliott, Vice President Sanjana Dasari, Secretary Elle McGregor, or Treasurer Lucas Nguyen—will be present to ensure the event runs smoothly.March 11, 2020 at 2:46 PMRejectedErie Seawolves GameMentoring03/11/202005/01/2020The YMCA and the LECOM Mentoring Club are attending an Erie Seawolves game in order to continue forming lasting relationships with local school-aged children and to give these children an experience to remember! We are offering free tickets to the entire class, limiting ticket availability to 100 in efforts to control attendance. We would purchase as a group to keep everything seated together. Dr. Kulesza is going to chaperone the event for us. We think this would be a wonderful opportunity for the class to spend some quality time together and be a nice event to start our last semester.October 25, 2022 at 12:29 PMExpiredErie Oncology Wellness Center - Wig & Beauty Salon Item DriveOncology Club10/25/202211/07/2022The Erie Oncology Wellness Center is an independent non-profit devoted to helping patients undergoing radiation and/or chemotherapy. One aspect of their care is a Wig & Beauty Salon. They have plenty of wonderful wigs, but lack in the 'beauty' side of make-up and skin care patients. We are planning on gathering supplies to help these oncology patients dealing with hair and skin problems. As for the products gathered, I have this baseline from the clinic: "It seems that the makeup line that would be best is NYX. They are vegan-free and priced fair compared to some of the other brands. For lotions and such, Neutrogena is recommended. Both brands are sold at Ulta. The products we would like to have on hand are face soap/cleaners, face lotion, foundation, powder, blush, eye shadows, eye liners, brow pencils or temp tattoos, lip balms/sticks. Because we have women of all colors, a variety would be great. We don’t expect you to get everything, but any donation of these products would be most helpful as we stock the ‘beauty’ portion of our Wig & Beauty Salon. We are most appreciative of your willingness to help. We would be happy to provide a tax receipt to you if you give us a value on what you’ve donated since we are a non-profit." The drive would run from November 7th to November 14th. Every item donated will count as 0.5 hours for a maximum of 3 hours (as per previous events).March 21, 2023 at 2:42 PMApprovedErie Cancer Wellness Donation DriveOncology Club03/21/202304/03/2023We are hosting a Donation Drive for the Erie Cancer Wellness Center from April 3-April 17. There is a list of items that the Wellness Center is currently in need of: unused scarves/hats, new earrings, plastic/metal wig stands, wig shampoo/conditioner, office supplies (pencils, markers, post-its), hand sanitizers, cancer related books for their library, anti-slip socks, and heating pads. Each item will be worth 0.5 volunteer hours, with a maximum of 2 volunteer hours possible for each student. I have emailed the Security Office asking for their approval to place boxes in the front for the students to place their items in. The Oncology Club will be picking up the donations daily at 5pm and will be placed in Shahnaaz Sakkaria's car. The donations will be dropped off on April 17th at 10 am to the Erie Cancer Wellness Center by Shahnaaz and two of the club members assisting her. We have also partnered with SSP with 2 volunteer hours counting towards that club as well.February 26, 2020 at 10:50 PMApprovedErie Bayhawks GameMentoring02/26/202003/13/2020The YMCA and the LECOM Mentoring Club are attending an Erie Bayhawks game in order to continue forming lasting relationships with local school-aged children and to give these children an experience to remember!March 14, 2019 at 7:39 PMApprovedErie Autism Society Speaking EventPediatrics Club03/14/201904/25/2019Members of Erie's Autism Society will be visiting to speak about their experiences working in the Autism community.April 29, 2025 at 9:46 PMApprovedEnd of Year Goodie Bag HandoutLECOM Med Erie - SGA04/29/202505/21/2025SGA is organizing gifts to celebrate our OMS1s for successfully completing their first year of medical school. They provide free counseling, support, burial services, and financial help in these difficult times. They also spread awareness and bring people in the community who have dealt with the same tragedy together to create a local support system. Last year, WHC got involved with this organization and will be volunteering with them again this year. Emma's Footprints is going to talk about their mission since we will be working with them as well as their personal stories of losing a child so we can better understand how to handle these sensitive subjects when we are physicians and maybe even parents someday.March 19, 2019 at 7:40 AMApprovedEmergency Medicine Club Tourniquet SalesEmergency Medicine03/19/201904/16/2019This event is aimed at preparing our students for one of the worst possible scenarios they may come across in their day to day lives. Building off of the Wilderness Medicine Club's first aid kit sale, it is common to carry a tourniquet alongside your kit for dire circumstances. Current research shows the significant decrease in traumatic mortality when a tourniquet is applied to uncontrollable extremity bleeds. We hope that by running this fundraiser our students will be safer and better prepared for the unforeseen circumstances that have unfortunately become all too common in today's day and age. The cost for each unit will be at most will be $29.99; however depending on number we are looking at ordering in bulk to reduce cost for our students.
